Also, 4 to 6 pm is a lot easier time to get an audience vs. 9 pm to 12 midnight. I used to be amused by the Arbitron (prior to Nielsen’s acquisition) ratings. One quarter my show had a 2000 AQH audience, year the breakdown stated 80% of it was outside the metro area, which seemed unlikely to me. My wife and I filled out surveys awhile back and it is hard to remember exactly when you listened and to what station and how long unless you write it down or add notes to your phone right then. You wonder how many surveys are filled out with best guesses.

Naylor's stunt was a bush league move that would have earned a pitch in the ribs during the next at bat in the 1960s. It was especially dumb since his team was still behind at the time. Mickey Mantle said that he always kept his head down as he circled the bases after hitting a home run because "he didn't want to show up the pitcher." I was well aware of the turnover, but my dislike of the Astros remains in place.

I can say that I have no interest in watching these two teams play. The Astros still have the stain of the sign-stealing camera scandal, while I've never liked the Phillies.

Jimmy Smith at the Organ - Budget LP on Wyncote
Ken Dryden replied to Teasing the Korean's topic in Discography
I got rid of both Yes albums that I owned before leaving New Orleans for grad school in 1976. The weakness of Jon Anderson’s word salad lyrics were too much for me. -

I have enjoy this one time meeting on LP, but the label never got around to reissuing it on CD.

Looking for an Album - Gary Smulyan?
Ken Dryden replied to Teasing the Korean's topic in Discography
I once saw Gary Smulyan three different times with different bands during one visit to NYC. We had a good laugh by our third encounter. -
In my early days in public radio, my show did great fundraising between 8-10 pm on a weeknight, but once I was moved to Sunday, either afternoon or evening, the numbers were dismal. Saturday night has the potential for fundraising with right programming, but we had too many talk shows as lead ins and things died after Car Talk. I am glad Mrs. TTK has a loyal, supportive audience. It would be great if more jazz listeners supported their station.

I can tell you that late night programs don’t vary that much in audience numbers, in my experience, while underwriting is a hard sell for that period of the day. Most stations sell drive time, a few specific shows with bigger audiences, then everything together in a random run of schedule that covers all day parts, with no guaranteed shows or time slots. I had 26 years of experience as development director for WUTC and many membership drives. We quit fundraising live on air after 8 pm on weekdays and skipped weekends as well, it wasn’t worth the effort.

I remember running into Bob Seymour at IAJE back in the day. If the Jazz program had a paid host, I understand the economics of the decision. But I can't believe that the three programs that are replacing jazz are going to draw any significant audience at that time of day, while it is unlikely any of them are free. Carriage fees were ridiculous for numerous syndicated shows by the time I retired from WUTC in 2015. We dumped Garrison Keillor a second time, as it was close to $30,000 a year, while many shows were repeats. Bring back local radio...

The first version of After Midnight that I bought in the 1970s was a 10 track reissue that deleted two tracks. I found a used original, then an import lp with bonus tracks, the Mosaic set, then I think there was another cd reissue with additional music.

It's the Post-Pandemic Covid Poll!
Ken Dryden replied to Dan Gould's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I let my pharmacist know the next day. It is the only reaction that I have ever had to a shot. -

Ditto, they are of no interest to me. -

I did. My pharmacist was of great help. The reaction finally went away after 10 days or so. -

I will not take another Pfizer Covid vaccine after getting well over 100 red welts hours after the injection. I had no problems with the earlier Moderna shots. -

The Evans Verve set is the worst of the lot, due to the ridiculous packaging and number of false starts and breakdowns that could be easily omitted. I like alternate takes but order them at the end of the CD following the original album. The Secret Sessions consists of audience recordings, good playing but poor sound. At least the taper provided the tapes to a legit label. -

I have no use for false starts and breakdowns being included in the name of completeness. -
I will need to find a source to buy this CD. I have a Musidisc LP of Grappelli playing piano recorded in the 1950s, signed and dated by him before entering the studio to tape his appearance on Marian McPartland's Piano Jazz, plus the My Other Love CD.

Lee Konitz - Motion 3 CD set Verve Elite Edition

Sometimes you can check back in a few days and the item mysteriously reappears. I've had that happen a few times on Decluttr. You have to watch them, their inspection process sometimes leaves a lot to be desired... -
Two Amazon packages have been listed as out for delivery all day, one expected by 9 pm. They were received by our local post office in the wee hours of this morning. The packages finally arrived last night at 10:37 pm. I feel for the driver who was stuck with such an insanely long shift, though he or she likely racked up the overtime for working a federal holiday. I would think that worker safety should be taken into consideration, as deliveries that late in the evening make little sense. The risk of overnight thefts from mailboxes seems higher as well. The one benefit is there’s less risk from dog bites when a large package requires delivery to a porch.

Labels, artists, producers and liner note writers are often careless about checking data. One of the dumbest things that has developed is skipping writer credits entirely or only making them accessible via download. If a physical product is sold, credits, songwriters and liner notes shouldn’t need to be downloaded.

My CDR is playing so I have no issues. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions.
