  1. Interesting. About 20 miles south 'nesh' means scared. A 'nesher' is someone who runs away from a fight. Right, that is interesting. Nesh most definitely means sensitive to cold in Sheffield. Cold, as in 'It's cold today' is parky.
  2. Does it have to be English? Like the Japanese word Chinpunkanpun, meaning gibberish. The language is rich in onomatopoeia. From Sheffield there's lairy - flashy and selfserving, nesh- always cold, snap - packed lunch, geeor - stop it, lugoyle - ear , chabby - infant, mash- make tea and countless others.
  3. Some seasonable pics . Tokyo can sometimes look pretty good.
  4. Hospital reading. Two weeks and things have picked up with the Civil War in full throttle. Tough going, I realised how little I knew about this vital piece of history. BTW I'm back home now.
  5. The final episode of Secret State which was underwhelming to say the least. I'll give it a 'why bother' rating. The final episode of Hunted, the single worst tv series I've seen recently. The final episode of Treme which was good, the programme is a kind of mood poem on New Orleans, the individual story threads are not so involving but the total effect is. The penultimate episode of Boardwalk Empire which was brilliant, can't wait for the finale with Nocky and Al paired up against the evil(er) doers.
  6. With Firefox everything is working as normal. Right click on the image you want to post >copy image location>click. Add cursor to Reply to this topic and the toolbar appears. Click the add image thingy- a small green and blue square. An image properties box will appear. Right click in the URL box and paste the image.
  7. Although he will always be remembered as one of tv's greatest villians, the part that sticks in my mind is the Russian language translator to Henry Fonda in ' Failsafe'. RIP Larry Hagman.
  8. The Moonglows - Love Is A River
  9. The Kiliing 3, episodes 1 & 2. Excellent as always. Also still enjoying Scandal and Nashville.
  10. I first saw him with The Spencer Davis Group at The Twisted Wheel in Manchester. He was only about 16 or17 at the time but he totally owned the band. His vocals and piano work were very impressive, it was obvious he had talent to spare. I recall an amazing take on Georgia On My Mind, with him on piano. I couldn't believe he was still a teenager - like me !
  11. Many happy returns of the day.
  12. Total Recall - Len Wiseman (2012) Despite the negative reviews I quite enjoyed it. Nothing more than a non stop action bonanza but it was well done with pretty impressive effects. The future world was a clear hodge podge of rip offs from other films but it didn't stop me enjoying it.
  13. Nashville It looked like a trashy soap opera but I thought I'd give this a try and I'm glad I did, if only for the great music. I don't know how it will play out but the songs make it worthwhile.
  14. I've never experienced a hurricane and wouldn't want to. We get a fair number of typhoons and they are bad enough. A lot of houses here have sliding metal storm windows that stop flying branches, rubbish bins and assorted flotsam that gets hurled about. Hope you guys in the storm path are all right.
  15. This weeks watch list - Treme Boardwalk Empire The Good Wife Person Of Interest Homeland Scandal Hunted Next up are Fringe & Blue Bloods.
  16. The Girl - Julian Jarrold (2012) HBO Tacky, bad aftertaste hatchet job, attempts to tar Hitch with the Polanski/Woody Allen sexual scandal brush. I already knew all the main points after reading numerous books on Hitchcock and fail to see who this is aimed at, not his fans, that's for sure.
  17. I'll take a look at that. One False Move is a great, tight thriller. Devil In A Blue Dress and Out Of Time are also good but One False Move is a must see.
  18. Oh I definitely agree to a point, people want to look at attractive people on TV, you see not-so-attractive people on the street everyday. TV stars tend to be "ideals". I do believe it is possible to be great looking and also be a great actor. The average looking actors get the character roles on US TV, but seldom the lead. The whole cast of 'Arrow' are like fashion plate androids, the women look like they've popped out of an Acme.Co duplicating machine, same length wavy locks and cutie pie faces. Weird and disorienting. I can't bring myself to watch the new Holmes .
  19. Japanese people singing in English , harps and accordions.
  20. Spent all afternoon, it was raining, watching the first season of Breaking Bad- just seven episodes. Amazing stuff.
  21. Like the one with the guy in a corridor lined with razor blades.
  22. None, I've never seen the point, I have a plain light blue screen.
  23. Expendables 2 - Simon West (2012) Like fast food, I got exactly what I expected. Nothing to say other than Jet Li was underused. Best one liner ' Rest in pieces'. The Missus was amused.
