  1. I never did find a detailed account of what the issues are and most of the online references to the lawsuit have disappeared since the "truce." There's a few references here: http://beta.forcedexposure.com/ReviewJohnFahey.aspx http://www.paristransatlantic.com/magazine/monthly2004/11nov_text.html
  2. Now you made me curious. What was that lawsuit involving Ayler's estate? Where did you read about it? It involved Bernard Stollman of ESP fame and I believe a faction of the Ayler state. The lawsuit effectively brought Revenant to a standstill.
  3. Either a mistake or someone had second thoughts and edited the tune. The back cover also claims that "Lumkili" is split across two sides while the label has it on Side B only.
  4. Miles Davis, Big Fun. "Big Fun" was released as a single and was also a preliminary name for one of the songs the live band frequently played during that era.
  5. There are worse NHL trades than the Gretzky one. Sure the Oilers gave up the game's greatest player and yes, Carson didn't up to expectations, but the Oilers won a Stanley Cup two years later.
  6. Kesarbai Kerkar (Canary/Mississippi Records).
  7. It is wonderful stuff. I used to be Wyatt-era die-hard, but have been enjoying some of the later stuff, like 6, Bundles and the live disc with Phil Howard. They were like Rasputin, every time they'd put out a mediocre album and lose a key member you would think they'd be finished but they would bounce back.
  8. I don't know how active 2.13.61 is at the moment, but lots of stuff has been released over the years, including Charles Gayle and Matthew Shipp CDs.
  9. For those wanting more info on the Live Trane errors, here's David Wild's page on the matter: http://www.wildmusic-jazz.com/livetrane.htm
  10. First issued on vinyl back in 1977. Used to look like this:
  11. Pepper Adams with Zoot Sims and Elvin Jones, Encounter!
  12. Mal Waldron, Signals.
  13. That's a fabulous record .
  14. Wouldn't call him a Brotzmann on guitar, but definitely a kindred spirit. Bring earplugs--he's loud.
  15. Would love to hear Keiji Haino cover this.
  16. I like what I've heard so far from the Soundcloud links.
  17. Anthony Braxton, 2001, Paris. http://tricentricfoundation.org/label/new-braxton-house/tentet-paris-2001/
  18. Ok, that's good to know. I'll give them a call today and see what they say. I've never had customs charges on a Mosaic order either.
  19. I read that too. Jazz Loft mentioned that in a recent e-mail.
  20. Thanks for posting. That sounds like a good one.
  21. That's insane, but that's Amazon marketplace for you. Even the used prices are nuts—starting at $35.99?!? It's $17.95 here: http://www.discogs.com/Don-Pullen-George-Adams-Quartet-Song-Everlasting/release/3287334

    Evan Parker

Recent interview with Evan Parker. http://thequietus.com/articles/12819-evan-parker-interview In it, he mentions that his psi label is winding down. "The psi story has just come to a close. The work that Martin Davidson did both technically and administratively was essential. He is soon going to live in Spain; without the close collaboration that living in the same town made possible, I cannot make sense of continuing. I am thinking about my next move, but the artists who entrusted psi with their work will have the rights in their works returned to them as we gradually dismantle to label. The A&R decisions were all mine. I am more interested in specific works of individuals than in genre. The label was just about things that I liked and people whose work I respected."
  23. Iverson did a really nice interview with Jarrett a few years ago: http://dothemath.typepad.com/dtm/interview-with-keith-jarrett.html The Shipp article came out just as I've been revisiting the Cellar Door box set and marveling at much of Jarrett's work there.
  24. He is a good one. Really like his work with Uri Caine.
  25. 1961 also has two bonus tracks plus some studio chatter from the Thesis session.
