Thanks for posting. That sounds like a good one.

That's insane, but that's Amazon marketplace for you. Even the used prices are nuts—starting at $35.99?!? It's $17.95 here: http://www.discogs.com/Don-Pullen-George-Adams-Quartet-Song-Everlasting/release/3287334

Recent interview with Evan Parker. http://thequietus.com/articles/12819-evan-parker-interview In it, he mentions that his psi label is winding down. "The psi story has just come to a close. The work that Martin Davidson did both technically and administratively was essential. He is soon going to live in Spain; without the close collaboration that living in the same town made possible, I cannot make sense of continuing. I am thinking about my next move, but the artists who entrusted psi with their work will have the rights in their works returned to them as we gradually dismantle to label. The A&R decisions were all mine. I am more interested in specific works of individuals than in genre. The label was just about things that I liked and people whose work I respected."

He is a good one. Really like his work with Uri Caine.

1961 also has two bonus tracks plus some studio chatter from the Thesis session.

It's a really interesting session—a contrast to where Gabarek went in later years. It was released on CD in Japan in 1988 and I believe it also briefly showed up on CD in Europe, Yes, it was reissued on Arista/Freedom. Note that Russell only produces the LP.

The concert I really want to see is François Tusques performing with Kidd Jordan, William Parker and Hamid Drake. http://www.coastaljazz.ca/artist/french_american_peace_ensemble_featuring_fran%C3%A7ois_tusques Also hope to check out Vijay Iyer and Tomas Fujiwara (with Mary Halvorson). I'm no "expert" but recently played the Xanadu and the original and I prefer the Xanadu. There was some discussion as to whether the Xanadu is a needle drop or not in this thread:

Anyone order online from Downtown Music Gallery?
B. Clugston replied to CJ Shearn's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I've ordered online from them successfully many times over the years and I recommend them. They don't always send confirmation, but I did get a phone call once regarding an order. -
There's also the Albert Ayler single I use as my avatar: not really free jazz, though. I'd love a copy just for the cover.

Solo Instrument Albums (not piano or guitar)
B. Clugston replied to StarThrower's topic in Miscellaneous Music
My favourites include Steve Lacy's Hooky, Leo Smith's Creative Music 1, Evan Parker's At the Finger Palace and Anthony Braxton's Saxophone Improvisations Series F, Solo (London) 1988, Solo (Skopje) 1995 and Solo (NYC) 2002. Yes, it was reissued on CD in 1999. And it's another fabulous one. -
He's amazing: bop, pop, inside, outside, Stravinsky, Springsteen—he can do it all. A couple of not-so-well-known favourites: Lalo Schifrin's Marquis de Sade album and Carman Moore's Four Movements for a Fashionable Five-Toed Dragon (with Sam Rivers).

The trio album with Chico Hamilton is great.

Two of the tracks from Duets showed up as extras on a CD reissue of Brown's Porto Novo.

Happy Birthday Allen! -
I was at the release concert, which featured Evan Parker in the same venue. It's a great album, recorded on the same tour as the At the Finger Palace record. It was $15 at the source.

Pat Metheny: "Tap:John Zorn's Book of Angels, volume 20"
B. Clugston replied to CJ Shearn's topic in New Releases
Zorn's Masada work isn't what I would call out there. And Metheny has done some wild stuff in the past. -

That's one of my favourites of this genre. Also a big fan of Morton Subotnick's Silver Apples of the Moon. -
What live music are you going to see tonight?
B. Clugston replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
It was a great concert. Evan Parker opened the first set with a 25-minute soprano solo, circular breathing the whole time. I've seen Parker in many configurations before, but never solo, and it was quite amazing to experience. Surprisingly, he followed that up with a very brief rendition of a Monk tune, played in a Steve Lacy style! (I think it was "Well, You Needn't.") Set two was Parker on tenor with Gordon Grdina on guitar and oud and Kenton Loewen on drums. They played two improvised pieces--the second, featuring the oud, had a real Moorish feel to it and it was interesting to see what a great listener Parker is—he really adapted to what the others were playing. Both sets were recorded. The LP release is from the same tour that produced At the Finger Palace. There's some details here: http://front.bc.ca/events/evan-parker-concert-and-lp-launch/ -
