    Jobim

"The Waters of March" IMO is life condensed in less than four minutes. I just read where Gene Lees was at first appalled when Ogerman and Jobim first teamed up because Ogerman at the time did not have the best reputation.Doing arrangements for Lesley Gore and others did not endear Ogerman to the jazz community but when the actual results came out a lot of minds were changed including Lees. "Terra Brasilis" is marvelous and I would like to cast a vote for "Urubu". Hell, for that matter I'd like to cast my vote for just about everything that Jobim did.Jobim was,is and forever shall be amazing.
  2. That "Money Jungle" cover cracks me up though I'm getting this mental image of Max,Mingus and Duke royally kicking G's ass.
  3. Coltrane at the Villiage Vanguard, Duke Ellington at Newport ,Max Roach and Clifford Brown, those sessions with Art Blakey,Clifford Brown,Horace Silver and Lou Donaldson,Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie,Horace Silver at the Villiage gate with Junior Cook and Blue Mitchell and I'll probably think of more later.
  4. Jazzmoose- I concur. 2400.00 that's insane!!!
  5. I have a friend who used to have two dogs named Ornette and Carmen.
  6. Big Al- I really don't think Zappa was trying to be"hipper than thou". I really think that whatever stances he took whether it was on the hippies,LBJ,Vietnam, the Police or whatever-were just how he felt about a paticular situation. I suppose you could make a case about some of his music being pretentious and boring but any musician of ability and especially one that recorded as extensively as Zappa runs the risk of winding up like Icarus. Mike Nesmith was the only musician per se with the Monkees and I think he wanted to put some distance between himself and a bubblegum image and what better way to do it than to be associated with Zappa.Nesmith used Zappa but not in a cynical way.It came across as a "let's mess with the teenyboppers and have some fun" kind of deal and I loved it. Frank Zappa, however you feel about him,was a one of a kind individual and I miss him.
  7. A future purchase.Thanks Big Al!
  8. The Horror! The Horror!
  9. Blues, the various Louisiana styles, roots rock are primary choices but if an artist(s) sounds good to me that are outside of those boundaries I'll listen to them too.
  10. couw-thanks! Yeah Frank wasn't exactly the best looking dude but his guitar playing, bands and overall genius kicked major booty over a lot of pretty boys and girls.
  11. Didn't Ogerman arrange Wes Montgomery's "Tequila" and if so was it any better?
  12. couw-that is cool.Do you have the one with the grinning guy shaving with the weasel?
  13. danasgoodstuff-the album/cd in question is "Weasles Ripped My Flesh". The cover work for the album/cd is something else too.
  14. Sica- Welcome and it's good to know that younger people are into this music.
  15. Parkertown- Likewise good to see you on this board. Pagosa Springs got more rain than snow out of this last storm.I'm glad the front range got the moisture though the commute must have been a major pain.

  18. Gunnison is a place where you can really freeze your huevos off! Another one that comes to mind is Alamosa.
  19. Where are you in SW Colorado? I reside in Pagosa. I was in Colorado Springs a few days before it started honking on the front range.I'm glad the area is getting the moisture.I'm also glad that I didn't have to travel through it.

  23. I second that. These releases look really good. Where else can you get them besides Dusty Groove.
  24. Being a hardcore night person getting to bed by midnight is usually pretty early for me. I usually get about six hours or less of sleep.
  25. Another BNBB boat person checking to what I hope is a friendly shore.
