So it's not going to be Gilad Atzmon then

Never seen that. And I must say it's one image I can't metally envisage; Miles being Miles whilst Jools Holland breaks into another boogie-woogie vamp. Trendy crowd watch on.

Just thinking actually what creative capacity Miles must have had. When he put his playing on the back burner at the end of his years he still had the vim to turn out pieces of art, and not just chocolate box painting-by-numbers either. Makes you wonder if, for instance, Picasso had been any good as a drummer, or Pollock had played sax

There was an exhibition in the North-East about 5 or 6 years ago featuring what sounds like the same collection. Very diverse stuff but very intense nonetheless. From what I remember his use of colour was quite extreme and jarring, not unlike his early-70s music. The pencil drawings didn't stay in my memory so I'll have to dig out the accompanying book I got from the show. At the time, the two guys who were showing his work were a drummer, jazz drummer in his late 50's and a bloke who happened to be from the next village along the hill from me. Small world. Worth seeing.

Happy Birthday Evan. All the best fella.

Friday: Snow, hail, sleet and cold northerley winds. 2 deg C through most of the day. Sunday: 16 deg C, sunshine, top down, sleeves up and sweat on. Don't you just love British weather.

AOTW McLean 'Let Freedom Ring'
tonym replied to Man with the Golden Arm's topic in Album Of The Week
First time I have read through the liner for this disc. He most certainly is a 'sugar-free' alto player , although he does play sweetly at times. I've always been a fan of McLean's sound from first hearing 4, 5 & 6. You can't think of other adjectives to describe it but the ones which are widely thrown at him; acidic, tart, bristling, acrid etc. His takes on ballads have always been listenable and far from routine, which makes a change. This album though, would have IMO, worked well as a trio date even. That is, without Jackie. Davis's solo on the first tune is wonderful and the rhythm section just burble, bubble and pop underneath. Not much 'bashing'. Not that I can hear anyway. You can't really get a crisper drummer than Higgins can you. One good choice for AOTW. Not a bad recording too. Given that a very bright RVG was recently issued of McLean's, I'm pleased that this version doesn't render his inherent 'brightness' totally atomic glare. -
You have too much time on your hands.

Lime. Because it just is. Alright.

AOTW McLean 'Let Freedom Ring'

Again, unfortunately iPod constraints mean that this album has been sat on my shelf unlistened to (well, 2 or 3 times). So I shall dig it out this afternoon and give it the once over. -
Travelling to Paris, France
tonym replied to undergroundagent's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Beautiful, evocative city. We were last there two autumns ago, at the same time you plan to visit. You don't go to Paris for the weather! I mean, you have as much fun when it's damp and drizzly as much as when the sun shines. We had a big mixture. The old streets around the base of the Eiffel are gorgeous, as is most of Paris. The left bank was bustling and hipper-than-thou. Marais was probably my favourite district; strewn with cafes, patiseries and art shops, although we didn't stay there. We were about 4 floors up in a rather bijous 3 star called Hotel des'Arts. The rooms were connected by the most basic of air conditioning systems whereby one could here the husky sounding blonde coming to orgasm at least 4 times during the night . Interesting. The high point for me was a chanson bar called La Limonaire just around the corner in the 9e. The gig was hilarious even with my patchy French, the guitarist was like Zappa and the food was simple and delicious. It was made all the more enjoyable by the fact we were crammed in like sardines quaffing Cognac alongside some rather delectable young students . Go. -
I don't mind his gutteral punctuations but Inside Out has a fair few 4 or 5 moments. Actually there are times when it sounds like all 3 are climaxing.

What films this summer are you looking forward to?

Wouldn't mind going down into those blue bits..... -
My 90 seems a tad optomistic given the general lunacy of my family and the fact I'll probably be knocked over by some inebriated half-wit whilst out cycling. Yeah. You're right in thinking I did have my fair share of them this morning

Kinsey is just out here and I'm rather curious about seeing that. Usually love Liam Neesson in a good role. -

Monging up the thread right in front of me is annoying, so I deleted that shit. Anything else? Because this is the first thread that has been 'monged' up. NO kidding, and I owe you an apology anyway. Despite my efforts Che wrecked the thread more than mere smilies. I understand your tubes may have just been a little on the dilated side when you had to deal with the recent hoo-hah. So, two little Fonzies? B-)

Well Hi. I'm not that sick that he's gone FWIW. He told me to "Get a life in one thread, to a perfectly innoccuous question. Then proceeded to answer my question in his next post. I mean, how many times can you respond to your own thread? I was finding myself avoiding any thread he'd started.

Look tony, at least I saved on by quoting it, and now as I quote it again, you have it available twice! I suppose you should rather have posted then "Thank you for your post, I enjoyed reading it. Tony"-messages, instead of those evil things, you know? I can only think of one thing to say to that and that is

The all "Hello Kitty" thread...

Sorry if it's been done. -
No seriously, isn't that the sound of surprise or whatever someone famously coined it? How 'conventional' should an album be within the remit (right word?) of the opening track or two? I for one prefer an album to have a cohesive feel, and a flow whether that be along the dissonant or more melodic lines. But one of my favourite albums of all time is ESP by Miles which is a fairly straight ahead thing punctuated by the opening drum solo of 'Agitation' which is I guess, a bit on the free side. Then again, that is a solo performed on one instrument without the jarring experience of seemingly random blast of brass or reeds. I'll have to sit through a few more of my more 'progressive' stuff to get a better idea of what I should be saying. And yes, I'm on my xth Jennings Sneck Lifter.

Just wondering why the mod Use3D decided to delete some totally innoffensive and mildly humourous posts (3 I think)? Unless he thought they weren't innoffensive, in which case I'd like to know for what reason he thought this. It's obviously OK for some members to exchange and almost indefinately throughout threads, but one or two on my part and they get all and leave me a bit . Maybe it's a ploy to keep turnover of board members high.
