  1. Youssou N'dour says that white people can't dance to Mbalax because it's rhythmically too sophisticated for them; like 4/4 and 6/8 simultaneously with an accent on the 7th beat of each alternate bar! He's wrong, but you really need to feel like it! MG I remember my wife being complimented on her moves by the guys from Bikutsi band Les Tetes Brulees after one of their shows ... made her decade! Most of the other "white wimmen", dressed in souvenir afro garb, moved as if the fly-machine had too much weight on it. I do wish I could dance like her.
  2. dat snausage sammich looks good!!! just an aside ... Last year my kid's got me a bottle of this for Father's Day. They thought the label was cool AND it had a free rubber skull! Had not uncorked it til the other night w/ some leftover beans and rice and grilled pork tenderloin. I put a couple dribbles on the plate and mixed it with the rice and then proceeded to eat like a bandit. After the meal I had a good cup and a half of yogurt followed by two glasses of milk - all to no avail. Did a bit of research and see that this is not even the hottest sauce that "Blair's" makes. He must free-base down habeneros to get this stuff so hot. Not a ridiculous hot sauce experience by any means but this kind of stuff better not get into the hands of terrorists!!
  3. In Marblehead, MA the Universalist Church has been holding a jaz festival there for a dozen summers i think. Saw Stan Strickland there a couple times. 2006 Schedule this year looks pretty darn good! give em a shout ...
  4. back on topic after listening to Jimmy Jazz. EAR PICK!!!
  5. these chimps either need to get a sense of better sense of humor or just drink more.
  6. Classic. Absolutely classic. and even better today w/ the pic!!!
  7. Couldn't have put it any better myself. I agree with you, Chuck, on all points. yes, but let's all agree that he was baited encouraging tenure's end.
  8. clicked over from the ARICian flu thread and see that this IS a political issue as the map here shows that the 1918 outbreak was a blue state thing at it's inception. And just look at this election graphic ... no doubt showing signs of avian influence! Time to hitch up an elephant and ride west!
  9. here's another > in what magazine did ARIC "appear" when he was in his teens?
  10. I came into Threadgill via Cassandra Wilson's "Days Aweigh" lp. Jumped to the Air set w/ Wilson and then onto the Novus material - "Bermuda Blues" was often grooved right into the table - one of my all time faves (bought that on disc years later btw from a board member's shop long before the board and remember him telling me how Threadgill didn't swing ) ! I usually flip on "Spotted Dick is Pudding" from 'Easily Slip...' around Easter (maybe tomorrow) cause it's such a great funereal dirge for that Bunny. His music always comes across to me as having a good old sense of humor about it. I do recall an excellent BFT ending with a bit "too much sugar" .
  11. "... er, um we'll wait for a booth"

  19. i can't seem to find that "coffee spitting smiley"?
  20. ThunderBird digital player here. that lead off and a few others have a MMW groove (esp on the bottom) going on or what? sounds like she might be trying to capture that "Americana" demographic more and more with the balance of this one. i guess all that M-base experimentation and jazz is long gone now.
