I could see those caf-fiend jags of yours Shock and Panic right next to the Jack Davis Frankenstein door poster! TTK, have you ever heard his OST of 'Mr. Buddwing"? Absolutely essential. I found a nice lp copy that I need to digitize somehow and share. I asked the folks at FSM about any re-issue plans of his work and was told it would be a licensing nightmare(?). All the cool work is on CTI and Columbia, I believe? 'East Side - West Side', 'The Reporter', 'Yellow Canary', 'Lonelyville' and 'Buddwing' would make a great Mosaic Select. I've heard most thru the fine folks out in the ethers.

I saw the FSM / Tiki Central forums - maybe you? - while perusing whether Jungle Jazz and Teen Drums are coming. so you've a/b'd the cuts with the old Capitol collection (not Rhino, silly me)? I see that 'el is Cherry Red Records (have only a couple Garland Jeffreys from them and they sound great to me). Hopefully they do a good job on this "Africa / Jungle Jazz" issue. -
inspired by the "blind discovery" thread I was prompted to look thru my scrap files and onto the web to find a trove of images from super fantastic ink guru David Coulson. I was nudged by many of these little gems, seeking out tunes, books, movies etc... great stuff! Cool 20

damn, so we are finally at the point where pared down digital thru a little solid state matchbox is now "sounding better". -

Thanks, I'd hope for CDs too. I look every now and then for them to be issued. No 'Jungle Jazz'? and screw iTunes! they want $1.29 for indy tracks. Amazon has them for .99 if you are interested and probably have the Rhino twofer on disc. -
Records You love That You Bought "Blind"
Man with the Golden Arm replied to paul secor's topic in Miscellaneous Music
A truly blind purchase happened at the Village Tower many years ago. A buddy and I saw a few folks stepping up the register with a new lp release called "The Big Gundown". I had never ever heard of Zorn and only knew Morricone from the Leone soundtracks. The only reason I sprang for the album was that the moire pattern cover shot of Morricone looked exactly like a model maker friend back at work. That blind purchase totally spun my ears around - a complete undermining of what an album can be. I then had to know who Arto Lindsay, Bobby Previte, John Patton and Diamanda Galas were. The latter proved too scary for me. -

I purchased quite a few of the BN DMM pressings back in the mid eighties - I had bought a couple BN cds by then but still bought the "cheap stuff" too. Bought Bennie Wallace's "Twilight Time" cuz of Dr. John and Stevie Ray but more for the crazy jacket. At the time I also picked up an LP called "Straight No Filter" just because the guy on the cover looked so cool. -
another piddly price case in point / whaddaya do? win an auction the old fashioned way. pay for shipping. took forever. receive different item. contact seller who sez he will credit you but fails to answer your requests for return shipping info. i'm being proactive trying to get the wrong item back to him - but I should not pay for it! fails to credit you as promised. finally tells you to send it back "...it's only a few bucks". still no credit for original transaction. do you keep the email chain going? waste of time. or place an incorrect item dispute via paypal.

on a different note, reminds me of a friend who told me he turns those ribbed ones inside out - "heck, if I'm buying 'em why should she get the extra pleasure". -

HUGE! non-call that should have been up for review, but ... blah blah. Great championship series and a great post season all around. The fact that the Celts could not put it in from underneath when they realized they actually have to make jump shots along with that Gasol >Seinfeld "Newman" smiley< hopskotch was a depressing end. I used to like the Lakers when they had guys named Happy.

very nice story! Recently picked up this Umiliani "Una Bella Grinta" and recommend it highly. A soundtrack Gato made prior to Tango.
