As Paul mentions, a good time was had by one and all. Kudos to Craig for putting up with us, particularly on this big day for him It was quite a kick to hear the details from Chuck about the "the find" ... I felt like I was about nine and huddling with my buddies over baseball cards! One of the best stories came from Free For All Paul, whose lovely wife JoDee also plays the trombone - classical however, not jazz. Prior to marrying JoDee, Paul lived above a bakery in Chicago. After she moved in with him, the folks at the bakery apparently commented, "so when did you forget how to swing?" Anyway, it was a blast and Chuck, I'm glad you took the time to look us up. Thanks for bringing up this thread! When I initially saw some of the Factory releases, I presumed this was one of those gray market bootleg labels - nice to know they are legit! Scored a nice X live CD

Weber Genesis Silver B Gas, somewhat similar to the one Chuck posted. After years and years of charcoal, I took the easier route. With three kids of my own and neighbor kids streaming in and out of the house, gas is the way to go

Funny, I did not get into Delivery Man until I started playing the tracks in reverse order I also added "She's Pulling Out the Pin" to the mix - it has more of an "classic Elvis" sound to it. This band is coming to KC in August and I can't wait to see them. There is also a new DVD out that has this band playing in Memphis - it is a very cool show. Re: When I Was Cruel - I think it is pretty good, although you need to wade through the filler. One track that you can sleep on (it is towards the end of the CD) is "Episode of Blonde". The wordplay is a little goofy, but to me it sounds like it could have come off Trust or Armed Forces. While I am not pining for "retro-Elvis", it is good to hear that he still has it in him.

I went through a Lowe discovery period a few years back. A few things I learned along the way ... Labour of Lust is OOP and you can pay up on ebay or get the key tracks from Lowe's box set. I think the box is really the way to go - it starts with "Jesus" and runs through the 00s if I'm not mistaken. Defintiely hit all the high points. I also checked out Brinsley Schwarz ... no big connection there for me. Maybe a little too much pub in the pub rock I would try to pick up a few key Dave Edmunds CDs from this era - he was Lowe's partner in Rockpile. I really like DE 7th and Repeat When Necessary.

More votes for Little Red and Moontrane. Had these been released on Blue Note 10 years earlier, they would be more broadly regarded as the stone-cold classics that they are!!!

If anything, second-hand CD industry is worse for musicians than downloading, since it captures consumers' disposable funds (downloading does not). Yeah, that does suck about musicians losing out. I try to buy jazz new, rock used as a general rule. I get pinched by amazon on new stuff with sales taxes since they have a huge distribution facility in my home state (Kansas - go figure).

I buy 75% of my CDs used on amazon. Rarely do I have problems. I only buy from sellers with a satisfaction rating of 4.7 or above. Plus, sellers do have OOP material from time to time. It is really a pretty good little market and a nice alternative to ebay and GEMM. I have sold a few things there - they do collect a service fee - hell it may be equal to or above the profit they would make on a CD, so they are coming out no worse than whole.
