  1. Can we expect jazzbo to be glued to the telly?
  2. Milestone? Are these albums owned by Concord? The Milestone catalogue in general is, AFAIK, but if they've been out on Gitanes and now on Mosaic...?
  3. Louise Tobin (1939), Mildred Bailey (1939), Tommy Taylor (1941), Tommy Dix (1941), Art Lund/London (1941-42 & 1946), Buzz Alston (1942), Peggy Mann (1944), Jane Harvey (1944-45), Kay Penton (1945), Bob Hayden (1945), Dottie Reid (1945), Liza Morrow (1945-46), Eve Young (1946), Nancy Reed (1950-51) & Helen Ward (1953) are among the vocalists that won't be included. Benny even took some vocals himself - I have no idea if those will be included. The 1934-35 Columbia big band recordings aren't going to be included? Ann Graham, Tony Sacco, Helen Ward, Buddy Clark and Ray Hendricks sang on those.
  4. What about the 1958 Argo album Yusef At Cranbook? That one seems to have been completely overlooked in the CD reissue age.
  5. Orrin Keepnews: The expanded, although not unlimited, capacity of a road makes it possible for virtually the entire chicken to cross it. Since not quite the entire chicken could cross it - there simply is not that much room on a single road - the decision was to omit a leg and a wing. The producer has used his own judgement in selecting which limbs to cut off.
  6. There are so many things to wonder about here. For example, what does J445 refer to? A hammond organ model? "I play the J445."
  7. He was banned for the second time just days ago, hence the little joke. We know you're not him (well, at least I do), so there's no need to change your moniker as far as I'm concerned. Although a few probably were confused...
  8. Ah yes, it was first announced as that, but when it came out the title had been changed to First Session (although it doesn't contain the entire first session). I'll edit the list. The same thing happened to A Bluish Bag which first was announced as Blues For Del.

  10. It should be said that the 83 CD set of the complete Nagra reels is called A/B Road. The actual Let It Be set is "just" 6 CDs.
  11. Thanks guys; I will try Foobar then. That it is light on memory usage is good news too.
  12. What software do you use to play FLAC files? (And what do others use?) I have been meaning to look into this. I know that Burrrn and Foobar have been recommended by board members in the past.
  13. I wonder how different Europe (and maybe the world) had been if Hitler had been shot in 1943?
  14. Ugly Child Feather Brain Blues
  15. Oh, It's not that bad being 75 is it? As Clark Terry said: The golden years suck!
  16. Hi Knutte, and welcome to the board. Classics came out with a monthly batch of 5 titles from early 1990 to August 2004 (up to volume 1379) and all earlier releases remained in print during that time. After that Classics ran into problems that did not have to do with Petard himself. There were distribution problems (the original distributor may have gone out of business, I don't remember exactly). Also, a partner to Petard didn’t want to continue with the label and its future was seriously threatened. After a long hiatus during which various problems had been sorted out, the label resumed releasing new titles in July 2005. In the meantime many older titles had gone OOP. An announcement was made that many OOP titles were going to be re-pressed (which also happened), and that all titles would be made available again eventually (which hasn’t happened). Classics has however once again run into problems with several months between batches, and I think even some of the re-pressed titles going OOP again. A good part of the reason may be the generally dwindling CD sales. The late 80s to the early 00s were a golden era for jazz reissues, but it’s apparently a lot tougher financially now, and that affects Classics as well. I’m going from memory of what I've read in the paragraphs above but hope I got it reasonably correct. Jaffa is the liner notes writer and has access to inside information. His latest post, as you can see says “Things with Classics are complicated - to say the least.”. I guess that’s where we are now. We don't know what will happen with forthcoming and OOP titles, and maybe even Petard doesn't.
  17. I did some different searches both here and on Google but couldn't come up with anything. Sorry. At one point when the board went down recent posts were lost. It could have been one of them. Another possiblity is that some keyword was misspelt or only referred to indirectly, so that it is difficult to find through a search. Archive? AFAIK everything since the start in March 2003 is here. However, the archive of the 1999-2003 BNBB, which presumably is languishing somewhere, would be nice to add. Some great threads there.
  18. or... Kenny G & Louis Armstrong Hilarious comment: "kenny g is the original composer of this song. I dont know why louis armstrong has to sing so bad. more sax less singing."
  19. I just discovered that there are two completely different covers to Chuck Wayne's OJC CD Morning Mist (originally Prestige PR 7367). My copy looks like this: But I just discovered that this OJC cover is in circulation too: What's up with that? I know that some Prestige LPs were reissued with new covers, but Fantasy usually chose the original one for CD release, so why have two completely different ones been used? And which one is the original?
  20. The cover design for the Stitt/Sims album is credited to one Thomas Gorman, FWIW.
  21. This one?
  22. The Band That Plays The Blues gets no respect these days.
  23. Something they could do is a 1962-66 post-CJB Verve/Philips/Limelight box. That's 7 albums, some of which have been on OOP Japanese CDs, and some of which are on inferior-sounding Andorran LP transfers. Only Night Lights has been out in the west, I think. Another idea might be the 1955-56 sextet sessions, three albums on EmArcy/Mercury. There are a lot of alternate takes from those sessions, so a 3-CD set would be possible. None of these albums has been on CD in the west, surprisingly. Two have been on Japanese CDs, and the third is on a Membran CD. All three are also on an Andorran set.
