  1. I actually did lose files and when I went to the online backup (carbonite) it said the library folder was "damaged", but I had the option of trying an "earlier version". I did that and was missing a couple of thousand files. Ever worse was when I tried the back up discs and the it wouldn't take the final one. The error message was "the itunes library cannot be saved. There is not enough memory available." Yikes! I actually think I screwed up when I interrupted whatever was happening when I turned itunes on yesterday morning - although a warning would have been nice. As is after a sucessful system restore back a few days and using my backup discs I lost around 350 files, only one of which is a 9.99 itunes purchased album. The rest I can replace easily. I guess the moral is keep backups current. I just hope the problem doesn't reoccur.
  2. Thanks NOJ. I ended up trying system restore a second time and then was able to use my backup discs and this time it worked. I only lost about 350 tunes (most of which are things I took from cds I have). The playlists are all screwed up, but I can fix that over a period of time. Whew! I hope this scenario doesn't repeat.
  3. Help. This morning I turned on Itunes - It was taking an inordinately long time to come on. I saw a dialog box saying something about importing library, I clicked it off and lost about half of my Itunes. I tried system restore. I tried deleting what was left and loading from an online back up source - but nothing is working. I still have the half Itunes there and the site is not visually as it was either. Can't sort by artist or album.
  4. Gotta show this to DEEP. A shot costs more now than a bottle did then.
  5. The Bobby Peterson you mention was from Chester PA and had an R&B with "Irresistible You" hit (later also a hit for Bobby Darin). I doubt if it's the same guy. He pretty much stayed in Chester the rest of his career. I really like these old reviews.
  6. Happy Birthday Chris and many many more. Have an extra cannoli - it's your birthday!
  7. Happy Birthday Guy and many many more healthy and happy
  8. Please keep it going Chris. It's great stuff and totally interesting.

McGarrity and Cutshall. Two great musicians. Cutty Cutshall is an unsung giant in my book. Great solos and just listen to his ensemble work. He's there at the right time with the right notes. EVERY time. McGarity is no slouch either and was probably the better known of the two. At one point in the early 40s they were Benny Goodman's trombone section. I think there is a Bird record where they are part of the section also (Temptation?). They were together in The Lawson Haggart Jazz Band and it's successor World's Greatest Jazz Band.
  11. Anybody dig that the outro was "Every Body Loves My Baby" from the Vic Dickenson Vanguard recordings?
  12. Happy BIrthday!!!
  13. I haven't had the time to look up this thread, but last sunday night I went to the Blue Note and saw Gal Costa and Romero Lubamba. Terrific!
  14. Yeah...Louis Armstrong and the Short Stars. This movie has huge cringe factor potential. I hope I'm wrong.
  15. Buddy makes a cameo on one track. The set is called "That's All". It smokes.
  16. I just obtained a Sammy Davis Jr set recorded live at the Sands sometime in the 60s. It was on Reprise. I have to say I'm surprised at how good it is, how much it swings, How well Sammy Davis sang, etc etc. At one point, around the 6th track (iirc) Sammy does a duet with the drummer and goes through a number of tunes - one of which is "Ugly Chile" (Brunis lyrics to "Pretty Doll").
  17. While you're at the circus an elephant breaks free of it's chains and knocks the tent down covering the crowd. When the police show up they shoot the elephant with a tranquilizer gun but accidentally hit you instead. You're given a monstrously large (and fatal) dose of tranquilizer. I guess it could be worse.
  18. Don't know Jack Gamba's name, but I'm going to ask some of the older guys if they know of him.
  19. He definitely had that great sound. He pretty much stayed local. I actually never heard a record by him. I remember he was house bassist at the "Clifton Tap Room" in the 60s. It was one of those gigs where the house band backed a different name each week and because of the close proximity to NYC it was easy to get the names in.
  20. unfortunately gone since sometime in the 80s. I heard him play many times. Great.
  21. RIP Norman. A great songwriter and producer for sure.
  22. Gotta say I dig Monk under any circumstance - but what I find myself going for most often is the Riverside material.
  23. I can't even begin to count how many duplicates I have. I must have 5 or six (at least) Louis Hot5s and 7s and the same with King Oliver. Hell - I had 3 or 4 vinyl versions of those before cds came along. There's many more - blue notes, commodores, etc. LOTS more. So far it really doesn't bug me too much. I keep saying I should get rid of at least the worst of them but somehow never get around to it.
  24. I've heard from a reliable source that Jerry Wexler had Hospice with him for a couple weeks and that they are turning off all life support today.
  25. I watched the third episode of season two tonight. I'm enjoying it and starting to get a handle on it. I'd still like to see season one and I'll probably end up buying it on dvd when it comes out if I haven't seen it by then. So if I'm making that commitment I guess I'm digging it. Most of the acting is good but I'm not sure if what I sometimes see as anachronism isn't performance related. In any event the main characters seem to have it down so I'll try not to nit pick - except when I have to.
