As an A’s fan the lack of spending can be annoying. It ain’t my money I wish they’d spend money like the Yankees. A’s doing A’s things.

Article about Bandcamp Burnout. Very interesting. I listened to a podcast that discussed this from an artist perspective. Bandcamp Friday Burnout?

Yeah I have the same feelings about pre-orders. I’ve been waiting for the Horace Tapscott - Tapscott + Winds I ordered at the beginning of the year and was supposed to ship January. I saw the new Jesse Sharp and the Wu Ensemble, ordered it and asked about my pre-order. Magically its shipping now but I’m irritated because it’s shipping with the Jesse Sharp and I paid separate shipping for each. Shady in my opinion.

I picked up Jackie Venson -Joy on vinyl today.

Based on what I’ve read in Pitchfork it appears Bandcamp as we know and love is probably going to change possibly dramatically

Saxophone player. Debut was Can’t Wait For Perfect on Fresh Sounds. I first heard him on his A Live Life release which is fantastic. He used to play the Blue Whale a lot and plays the Baked Potato frequently. Had a YouTube channel that he hasn’t been as frequent on but is really informative. Just an overall great guy and excellent composer/saxophonist. He’s a purchase without hearing samples for me personally

Thank you. Chris is a MONSTER! That was incredible!!

Chris Potter solo with them is insane. I'm only tangentially aware of them due to Bob Reynolds association with them. They don't offend me like they appear to so many others her but they don't get my dollars either. Good for them doing what they are doing though. The "live" record in the studio thing is interesting and I would like to check out artists I like doing that, but not them. Chris Potter solo

My intentions were never to make you this angry. My apologies. As I said previously I view workforce differently than product and you view them as the same thing. No need to attack me over differing views. https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10028196-mlb-owners-only-have-themselves-to-blame-for-lockout-reaching-a-new-low-point

Just remember this is a Lockout not a strike.

Season will be shortened as expected. Side note, Manfred is really unlikeable.

Very cool. Thanks for the info -
that’s good negotiating depending on the side you’re on. There isn’t only one side of negotiating and if the other side is considered the “enemy” as the owners view the MLBPA then you start on the wrong foot to start. The problem is, in my opinion, the workforce should be viewed as a partner and not a product. Again, I’m pro-union so I find it offensive to be low balled, where you believe a low floor must be set. I view labor and product two vastly different needs, where it sounds like you view product and labor the same, thus negotiations are the same.
-
Is low balling not bad faith then? Or is that just good negotiating? It all depends on the side of the negotiation you’re on.
-
Correct. I think the important thing is there was an expectation of a shorten season because they already know it can work because it’s been done. I think the biggest news has been the universal DH.
-
I guess we have different views on negotiations. I think it is hard to be harsh when I don’t have any “skin in the game” so I can’t say they aren’t negotiating in good faith. owners are opening their wallets? Why do you care if the owner spends money? Nixon torpedoed the rights of laborers with the air traffic controllers and the mindset has taken hold across America that the rich should get richer at all costs.
-
I expect the owners to share profits fairly. The payroll tax is a negotiation of 1% to 3% which was a difference of 50 million. The revenue for MLB in 2021 was estimated at 4 billion. It seems to me like the pie is getting bigger and the slice for the players is getting smaller. Similar to what the NFL did last negations. I’m pro-labor so I am always about the labor getting their fair share. The numbers are so big a lot of people think the players are getting a fair cut because to those outside the league its more than we make.
-
If I ask for $2 and they offer .50, asking for $3 next as a way of saying $2 is a minimum. It’s still negotiating. Negotiating does not require a reduction of request on $2. Especially if you want to cut jobs at the MiLB level.
-
I’m of the mindset if you believe your labor is worth more than you don’t just bend over and take whatever is given. The turn on unionized labor in America is fascinating and sad to me. So many people in the work force are the labor and the sentiment that you should just take what you can get astounds me.
-
Not sure why the players should make the biggest concessions, they are the reason there is a product, but I am a union man. With that being said I think it was expected that this would eat into the regular season on both sides and a reduced schedule is unspoken but welcome.

Nice. I sense a theme

Woof! 3.5g of tracking? Is that cart from the 60’s? That seems crazy high if it’s a modern cart. I think my ortofon is set to 1.75. I’d think about getting a new table or at minimum a new cartridge.

That’s interesting. I have 0 expectation when rap is added to a jazz album which allowed me to be pleasantly surprised by the rap.

I love Origami Harvest but I was immersed in hip hop the first 27 years of my life before ever getting into Jazz so I connected. As a reference, my true introduction to discovering jazz was Christian Scott’s album Anthem.
