  1. Strange, I never forget how bad Kenny G is. (Really, REALLY bad.)
  2. Corporate radio already invented the "soundtack in Hell" decades ago. It's called "Top 40"---just play it in endless rotation and the listener thinks they're in Hell.
  3. Let me add my humble voice to the groundswell, nay, tsunami, of popular support for the reissue of Smithville. Hey, it's got Rouse and Sonny Clark on it fer godsake, toss it out on the market already!
  4. Ron S beat me to it, but yes, Full House is right up there. Johnny Griffin!
  5. Wait...for a second, I forgot how bad he really was. Now I remember.
  6. Indeed. (Not to mention "Davis Cup.") Isn't this coming out in the September batch? Yes, according to Jazzmatazz it's slated for the September RVG release, along with Off To the Races---Donald Byrd Happenings---Bobby Hutcherson Demon's Dance---Jackie McLean City Lights---Lee Morgan, and Doin' the Thing at the Village Gate---Horace Silver
  7. It is? If so, I'm on it.
  8. Agreed! This is a great one.
  9. I recently heard Stanley Turrentine do a nice version of "Can't Buy Me Love." I'd like to hear "Burning Airlines Give You So Much More" as done by, oh, Booker Ervin. And Fagin's "I.G.Y" done by Sonny Rollins. And "King of America" done by Benny Golson. Obviously, one could keep this up forever, but that's enough for now.
  10. Hand-lettering wins (almost) every time!
  11. Hot. It's hot. Very, very hot.
  12. Actually, the first DVD collection had four episodes per disc; I bought a couple of them. The new "ultimate" collection is probably the best reissue overall. For a while the Twilight Zone switched to an hour-long format. Perhaps that's what you're thinking of----the old DVD's probably had only two of the hour-long episodes per disc. Personally, I think the show was not as good, generally, in the one-hour format; lacked the tightness and punch of the half-hours. To be fair, I heard that changing the show to an hour was the bright idea of one or more of the network suits.
  13. Very shocked and saddened to hear about your loss. My concolences to you and your relatives.
  14. Yes!!
  15. Hey, a contemporary! Happy Birthday!
  16. Bertrand, A-friggin'-men to that. The Three Amigos was barely watchable. An Ishtar-like waste of talent. Yep.
  17. Stanley Turrentine, discs 1,2, 4, and 5.
  18. I've been thinking about doing that, but it's like making the move from automatic to stick-shift...or something. As of now, I still keep the booklets in the boxes, and keep the boxes with my LP's...and some of them in various bookcases around the house...in my bedroom...sandwitched between various comics and DVD's....and so on. But if I'm playing some particular Mosaic set or two, I often leave it out in front of my stereo for days/months at a time, in which case the respective booklets are kept on one of the stereo speakers, on my coffee table, or on a nearby bookcase. Hey, at least my kids know not to touch 'em.
  19. It's like they're starting their own pre-school.
  20. In Theaters July 26 Ahhhh. Featuring the always wonderful Toni Collette. Thanks for the good news. I should jump on this, 'cause I've got a feeling it won't be anywhere near the hit that "Virgin" was.
  21. Personally, I find the liner notes just frigging confusing! But I'm glad I've got it.
  22. Yes, but Taylor's ballad mode was big-toned, out of Hawkins-Webster. This solo is, as Alexander said up top, rather Getz-like in its lightness of tone and somewhat wispy agility. And if you've heard Boomie Richmond, it sounds exactly like him. He was, again, a very distinctive player -- that neo-Bud Freeman/Eddie Miller "gargle" of his is the giveaway. Well alright.
  23. Does it have that accoustically dead "70's sound"?
