  1. Did it have anything to do with ArtistShare? I'll have to dig it out and read it again... It was about jazz artists starting their own small labels, and marketing their music through the internet, etc. It mentions how, after a brief flurry of interest a few years ago, the big labels have almost all dropped jazz from their rosters. New jazz, that is. But new technology is allowing musicians to not have to go hat-in-hand to the majors. It was just nice to see an article about jazz in a newspaper.
  2. I love the great Willie Smith sides!
  3. It was about jazz musicians starting their own labels. Anyone seen this?
  4. Yeah, the guy could be a crusty old hard-hat, couldn't he? I think his political views are mostly in the background (where they should be) in the juveniles. The novels meant for adults are increasingly hard to take, though...
  5. With Michael Gambon in the lead, this has got to be good.
  6. God, I miss Stereo Jack's.
  7. No, Paul55. But it you want to say, please go ahead. This is a jazz forum, after all.

  14. Good choices indeed!
  15. My wife loves the meatloaf at Boston Market. I thought it started as Boston Chicken, in Newtonville, MA.

    The Jazztet

That's a good album! I got a Japanese import of it two or three years ago. Jazztet=
  17. I have noticed how the opening theme-music to Late Nite With Conan O'Brien has been speeded up over the years. It's sad. Kind of ridiculous, too.
  18. This really pisses me off. Not only Seinfeld but any show that's in repeat----and what gets me is it's often the very part of the scene that I was LOOKING FORWARD TO that's cut out!!! Aaaargh! It's gotten to the point where, for an hour show they only film, what, about 42 minutes-worth now...then the network repeats it and they've got to cut some scenes to fit MORE damn commercials??????????????????? It just plain sucks.
  19. Indestructible.
  20. Hey don't blame me....I didn't go see the damn thing!!
  21. I'm REALLY glad you got to see that movie Jim, that's one of my all time favorite comedies. Talk about brilliant fucking dialogue! "One of these days their gonna find your hair ribbon in an axe somewhere" Welcome to the WONDERFUL, WACKY world of Preston Sturges! Here are the "must-see" films that Sturges wrote and/or directed: The Great McGinty The Palm Beach Story Sullivan's Travels (inspiration for Oh Brother Where Art Thou) The Lady Eve Hail The Conquering Hero Unfaithfully Yours The Good Fairy Also worth checking out, though not quite on the same level: Remember The Night Christmas In July Easy Living Diamond Jim Enjoy! Love Sturges. The Lady Eve and The Palm Beach Story are my favorites. I've always had a warm spot in my heart for Easy Living, too, though he only wrote that one, didn't direct. Great cast, for one thing.
  22. I really like this film. Saw it in the 80's, then again in the 90's.
