I just read this myself. This is sad, but kind of scary. With so much going for him, you can't help wondering why the kid killed himself. We'll probably never know.
Or PEEL SLOWLY AND SEE?
Actually, kinda wonder what Bill Evans' version of "Heroin" might've sounded like... you ever hear the live radio station recording of Lou Reed & Don Cherry doing it?
No, but I'd love to!
It's unfortunate that you guys decide a movie is terrible simply because you don't think it makes sense. You're really limiting yourselves to nothing but run-of-the-mill linear narrative cinema at that point.
Personally, I love the Monkees' Head. I think it's a great film and like the tunes as well.
To each his own, of course.
Personally, I've always really liked Eraserhead, but not Head.
Follow it with a Parker (Dial), Lester Young, Jackie McLean, Mingus, and Sonny Clark. You might want to also check out the albums:
"Go!"---Dexter Gordon
"Kind of Blue"---Miles Davis
"Way Out West"---Sonny Rollins
"Soul Station"---Hank Mobley
You won't be sorry.
It took me a while, but I like Brubeck. Yes, sometimes his heavyhandedness at the keyboard can get on my nerves, but for the most part I'm a fan, particularly the early stuff. Plus, he brought Desmond to a wide audience, which is a good thing.
Nothing alike in a lot of other ways, too.
What gets me about the SAT change is that it supposedly grew out of the traditional SAT's percieved unfairness to the poor and/or minority students. OK then, but the essay inclusion would seem to make it harder for such students. So I don't get this. Perhaps it's the testing company's wish to be seen doing SOMETHING, however inane.
I remember watching later (color) episodes of Lost In Space when I was little and thinking they were cool. Then I caught afternoon repeats of the black & white season, and clearly it was better (at least, the first half.) Then as I got older (say, beyond the age of eight) the show seemed dumber and cheesier all the time. I doubt that anyone over the age of 10 could watch it with anything but camp pleasure. Except for Judy and Penny of course.
Or put it this way: Lost In Space, the show that makes the original Star Trek look relatively sophistcated and well done. Way to go, Irwin!
I tried hard to stay awake to watch all of these. I missed Lady from Shanghai, but caught the encore yesterday. I fell asleep during The Big Sleep and didn't wake up until Postman started. I never did see Double Indemnity, but they air it enough that I'll catch it eventually. Postman is a great film! Plenty of plot twists and turns.
Great lineup, indeed! For my money, Out of the Past is the best of the bunch.
This guy...what a psycho! He's up for rape, gets a hung jury, so what does he do? Grabs a gun, kills a judge, a court stenographer, and a guard, carjacks several vehicles, kills a fourth guy...and surrenders. So now he's a mass-murderer. Crazy.
