  1. I was a big fan of Kolchak, though it went downhill fast. Always thought X-Files was heavily influenced by Kolchak.
  2. Personally, I like a film that doesn't club you over the head in the first 10 seconds, at least as a change of pace. Dirty Harry coming up---and someone is shot in that right at the beginning!!!
  3. Cuz it's cool. Wait a minute, were you talking about Spike Lee's "X"?
  4. Who was Martin Denny?
  5. Good one! Also: Ellington--The Great Paris Concert; All-Star Road Band, vols. 1 & 2; and that Fargo record. Shelly Manne & His Men At the Blackhawk, all 5 volumes. Brubeck---Jazz At Oberlin Mingus At Antibes Wes Montgomery---Full House Monk---Live At the It Club Too many others to mention...

Jazzkrow---best wishes for full and speedy recovery! The DVD sucked! You are SO lucky that you don't have it!!
  7. Duke Ellington---The Paris Concert.
  8. They should fix that leak.
  9. Scarface is an essential early Hawks movie. What did you think of The Adventures of Robin Hood?
  10. In other words: Architects are pinheads.
  11. Yes, and it's one of my favorite Wilder films because it's the only one that's truly downbeat. The critique of the media in this film and "It Should Happen To You" (by Cukor) is astonishingly timely.
  12. Excellent technicolor adventure film from the golden age of Hollywood----don't miss it! I was lucky enough to catch this treat on the big screen at an area repertory theater TWICE. Great fun. I highly recommend the 2-disc DVD set as well. This is one of those old films that's great for kids, but adults should enjoy it too. I think it's the best movie version of the Robin Hood legend, and the "Singin' In the Rain" of Hollywood storybook adaptations.
  13. That's for DAMN sure!!
  14. The Maltese Falcon Chinatown The Third Man The Sweet Smell of Success Bob le Flambeur (should have won best foreign film) King of Comedy (Marty's best IMHO) Wait a minute, Chinatown didn't win Best Picture did it? I don't think so...I should look it up. Some more-- The Iron Giant Pleasantville Don't have time to say why. Just take my word for it.

I disagree. The letter 'S' reminds me of Saddam. also, Sonny = Sunni
  16. My wife explained to me that when he was Oprah, he told her it was for a movie he's making right now. So I don't think it's real. Was he in Booty Call? Quite a career odyssey...
  17. What's that like? Do y'all eat wings, bet & yell at the screen? B-) Making fun of anyone and everyone who appears on screen is an integral part of it, I'll admit. But in this case we had a sit-down lemon-chicken and salad dinner in the middle, while the Tivo caught it for us. Cheating? Yes, perhaps, but it was fun to then go back and get closer and closer to real time.
  18. I think I COULD eat that 6lb. burger---over the course of three or four days. I think by the fourth day I'd be inclined to just toss the remainder in the trash. Or give it to a friend's dog.
  19. YES!!! We went to an Oscar party at a friends house. Good time. If they would just drop the performance of the "Best Song" noms (better yet, drop the category altogether) then I think they could get the show in at under three hours. As it was, this was the fastest Oscar show that I can remember. ---Best Original Screenplay: Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind-----way to go!!! That made me happy.

Basra was the re-issue (in this crop) that I was most curious about, in that I've never heard it before. Oh well....
  22. Amen.
  23. I can't help thinking of Sonny Criss. I remember being puzzled by his suicide just when things seemed to be looking up for him. Then I found out that he had inoperable, and very painful, cancer. So Hunter Thompson may have had reasons we don't yet know about.
