  1. Thanks GA. Some Indian food and a Momix performance awaits.
  2. I used to be disgusted. Now I try to be amused. Cliff Lee!!!! Phillie fans everywhere better have Indians GM Mark Shapiro on their holiday card mailing list this year. And no complaining if your minor league pitching prospects aren't filled to the gills.
  3. Cliff Lee has already beaten Sabathia in the new NYY park. Sabathia did not take the loss because he was pulled in the 6th after throwing 122 pitches (!). Marte was responsible for 6 of the 9 runs that the Tribe scored in the 7th. An omen or just a rare highlight for the Tribe? ESPN recap
  4. Manny Acta is your next Indians manager, beating out Bobby Valentine, Torey Lovullo (AAA mgr for Indians), and Don Mattingly. Washington Nationals is just about the only place more pathetic than the Indians dugout these days, so hopefully Manny will have a good attitude...and lots of patience. McCarver is the worst--much worse than Buck or anyone on ESPN (including Joe Morgan). Earlier in tonight's game he said, paraphrasing, that the Yankees would know that they had won game 6 if they make it to the Series and Sabathia is pitching in Game 1. Really? ...What shrewd analysis. Despite the hellish circumstances in Cleveland, I have been enjoying this thread as the post-season has worn on. Fans sharing their passion and knowledge, without venomous hatred, f-bombing, or sophomoric baiting. Hopefully Sabathia and Lee will continue to pitch extremely well. Carry on.
  5. So the thousands of $0.00 items are discontinued titles. And I had dreams of scoring some Dexter Steeplechase titles darn cheap. And the Bill Evans box from Amazon. Oh well.
  6. Potential cover art material for a Gitanes-produced "Jazz in America" series?
  7. Are those just mispriced items, or is their strategy to overcharge for shipping? Has anyone ever purchased any music form yourstoreonline.net ?
  8. I took a flyer and renewed my amazon US order for this set. I just got an email update that its estimated arrival date is November 14. Seems promising. Not holding breath. Wondering if this email was auto-generated, i.e. not informed by actual inventory changes.
  9. Not gonna matter against Cliff Lee tonight.
  10. Congrats to the Alfredsons. First you could double team Zora. Then it was man-to-man with Zora and Stella. Now with Scarlett it's strictly zone defense! Enjoy! All the best.
  11. ...or last.
  12. Artist is K.W. Henderson. Anyone know anything about him/her? I received this as a birthday gift a few years ago.
  13. A sheet of the R Crumb Early Jazz Greats trading cards.
  14. Here is one by Larry Stevens of Baltimore, MD. If you're ever visiting the Inner Harbor, he has a small shop there. Another pair by Larry Stevens.
  15. Here is one by Jackson Collins of Venice CA, a poster print that he then painted over. [My first time trying to upload a picture.] Three more by Jackson Collins, hanging in the kitchen.
  16. More clutch play from the killer B's at the bottom of the Dodger order: Blake and Belliard. May not hit for high average, or be all that reliable, but... And CC was great last night. New grip on one of his pitches, and more rest as the season wound down appear to have helped immensely. And those pinstripes look slimming! So Blake, Belliard, Thome, Sabathia all made excellent contributions last night. Hopefully Cliff Lee will pitch well tomorrow. Meahwhile Tribe contemplating Manny Acta, former mgr of your Washington Nationals, as their next manager.
  17. Exciting playoff baseball in flyover country!!! Solid start from Cliff Lee, but then the bullpens...oy! And in other news, Theo Epstein has granted permission for the Indians to talk to John Farrell about managing the Tribe. Still considered a super longshot. Indians did not request permission to speak to bench coach Brad Mills. Other rumored names are Bobby Valentine and Mike Hargrove. Shapiro wants a new manager in place by the time the World Series ends. We shall see.
  18. Congrats to the Twins for making the playoffs. I only caught part of the extra inning action--a very exciting game played by two teams that definitely wanted it. Only a snob would really think otherwise. Glad to see the Mariners have a successful season, esp Franklin Gutierrez. I was always high on him, but he never quite put it together in Cleveland. Good luck to most of the playoff teams most of the time. I'll be rooting for ex-Indians to perform well, and small market teams. The season from hell in Cleveland is finally over. Thank God. It still disgusts/frustrates me deeply about how the talent has been cleared out. It even disgusts Victor Martinez. Should of contended for the Division this year. Now will not contend next year either. Traded established stars for prospects (gotta do that in small markets, and then hope to get super lucky). Bunch of them (basically everyone they got for Cliff Lee) currently is injured. Yeah, doesn't matter if 2011 is the first season to care about, but... So now your "Playoff Indians" constructed entirely from ex-Indians that made the playoffs this year. Could give real playoff teams a decent run. Doubt a similarly impressive lineup could be constructed from other non-playoff teams. Bullpen may be a bit threadbare, but rotation is solid. Sad that there are this many Indians castoffs. 1. Ben Francisco, cf 2. Mark DeRosa, ss 3. Victor Martinez, c 4. Manny Ramirez, lf 5. Jim Thome, 1b 6. Ryan Ludwick, rf 7. Ronnie Belliard, 2b 8. Casey Blake, 3b Rotation: CC Sabathia, Cliff Lee, Carl Pavano, Paul Byrd Bullpen: Rafael Betancourt, Guillermo Mota, Matt Herges, Chad Durbin, Juan Rincon, Fernando Cabrera coaching staff: Charlie Manuel, Dave Duncan, John Farrell, Terry Francona, Alfredo Griffin, Glenallen Hill, Rich Dauer The Browns are also abysmally bad. Life is too short. In Cleveland, NBA cannot start soon enough.
  19. what can one say? ...tremendous
  20. What great discourse.
  21. Farrell was mentioned in a chat with the Plain Dealer beat writer (Paul Hoynes), but it was quickly noted that he wouldn't be available next season. No chat about throwing talent at Boston to get him. Given the dearth of starting pitching talent, after the trades of Sabathia and Lee, and the injuries to Westbrook and Carmona, Masterson is staying. Not yet convinced he is a front end starter, but hey, Tribe has plenty of time... Next Indians manager will be a bench coach who hasn't managed at Major League level before. Probably someone I haven't heard of before. GM Mark Shapiro appears to be safe. After a rainout last night, they will play an old-fashioned doubleheader today. Don't think that would have ever happened during the golden era. Presently working on my "Playoff Indians" roster of ex-Indians that will play in the post-season this year (or be available). Just need to learn who the last few playoff teams will be. I'm confident that my assemblage of talent could take any similarly constructed "Playoff" team. I fear the Dodgers may be doomed in that they look to have 5 ex-Indians on their roster.
  22. Eric Wedge and staff to be canned at 1:30pm today, though they will still manage/coach the rest of the season. Wedge was the Cleveland manager for 7 seasons (5th longest tenure among current mgrs behind Cox, LaRussa, Scioscia, and Gardenhire). In seven seasons, Tribe won the Division once and finished second just once.
  23. The evil empire is indeed evil, but just keep complaining man. At least your team is right there in the mix in late September. Frustrations along the course of the season (all teams have them), but at least there are no fire sales, no white flags for 2009 (or 2010) in Beantown. Given that it was Byrd vs. Pettitte, game was a lot closer that one would expect. Did VMart just get the day off for some other reason or does he not catch Byrd? In Cleveland, Shoppach caught Byrd instead of VMart. Wonder if there are some longterm issues there. Will the Varitek era be over in the next few weeks? For the Tribe, they end an 11 game losing streak (try that on for size) by getting to play the Orioles, whose losing streak now stands at 10. Dreams that David Huff, Asdrubal Cabrera, and other young guys will play well next year. Smiles everybody!! NBA season can't get to Cleveland soon enough [even with the 24/7 "where will LeBron be next year?" nonsense spewing from NY/NJ and elsewhere].
  24. I agree. The same thing happened to Letterman. I don't watch any of those guys these days.
