  1. There seems to be an awful lot of threads that been taking religious twists lately! Anyways, all the best to George, one of my favorite pianists.
  2. Happy birthday to a great player and a great guy!
  3. I'll definitely make a contribution as well. The reverse psychology works!
  4. An ex-girlfriend of mine who I dated for a long time had "Who is Jill Scott?" and always played it. I enjoyed the album, and it was obvious that she was very talented. I then put two and two together and realized that it was her who appeared with The Roots when I saw them in 1998, when she was still unknown. She has a very powerful voice. For some interesting footage of her, check out the film "David Chappelle's Block Party", which is basically a concert documentary. She's a bit out of her element within the context of the show and the other acts, but it does display her talent quite well.
  5. Fun match! Very physical and exciting. A guy from Roma got carried out of the game (can't remember his name at the moment) and Christiano Ronaldo was bleeding from his head after taking an elbow in the final few minutes. The teams were really at each other's throats....Roma played hard, obviously having memories of that brutal 7-1 loss from last season. Wayne Rooney scored his first goal of the season. Man U is definitely a favorite to go far in the Champions League this year, provided they can stay healthy.
  6. That is great!! Should be well worth the wait.
  7. Welcome! Its a fun place to hang.
  8. I'm jealous....definitely a place I want to see before I die. Have a great trip!
  9. EPSN 2 is broadcasting the Manchester United / Roma Champions League match at 2:30 ET today!! I will get to watch it here at work on our monitors that usually show Headline News or CNBC all day. Very excited!!
  10. Thanks Adam!! Appreciate it. Given the fact that the 4 disc set is only $10 or so more than the 2 disc set, I'll probably spring for that one. I've never seen the theatrical edition, and it also includes the Director's Cut, which is the only version I know and enjoy.
  11. Can someone please explain to me the differences between the 4 and 5 disc sets besides the packaging and the (significant) price differences??
  12. Henry needed that. He's been off to a rough start in La Liga. I'm starting to wonder if were going to see the breakup of these Barca titans sometime soon. They've been playing great without Eto'o and Ronaldinho, and have some excellent newcomers on the squad as well. Could be tempting to think about selling one (or more) of their superstars.
  13. This exact thing happened when I saw Ornette several years ago in chicago. I'd say 15% of the audience left within the first 3 tunes. Mostly middle aged couples with very nice clothes on. They were subscribers to the jazz series....remember seeing some of them at other shows at the Symphony Center that year.
  14. Indeed they did. Their <$100.00 pre-sale price was tempting, but then I read that they were going to charge your card immediately, not at time of shipping.. Uh-uh. I sprung for Jazz Loft anyways because of the price....and to my surprise, on the receipt, it said that they wouldn't charge my card until it shipped. I checked my credit card online, and sure enough, no charge. So order away at Jazz Loft with no fear!
  15. Thanks, glad to hear this. I already have the Birdland dates, 4 Emarcys, and Rollins + 4 (sold Sarah Vaughan w. CB as vocals aren't my thing). Memorial Album is currently at the head of my yourmusic queue, and I was wondering whether to leave it there... Memorial Album has a track on it called "Brownie Speaks" that to me is some of the most exciting trumpet playing I've ever heard. I've listened to that track countless times and I'm just floored every time.
  16. Barcalona crushed Real Zaragoza yesterday with Leo Messi scoring twice in the first 10 minutes of the game. A work associate of mine based out of Buenos Aires told me that comparisons to Maradona are already starting to fly around Argentina.
  17. The ones on RVG are must haves. Get the two Birdland sides with Blakey, and Memorial Album.
  18. I really like Leeway. I love Cal Massey's compositions...something about them really reaches me, and I love the way they interpret them on this side. I do, however, find many of Lee's other early dates boring, but not this one.
  19. On a side note, I saw a film called "Green Street Holligans" recently. Not necessarily a great film, but for a North American such as myself living in a place where the Cubs / White Sox rivalry is considered intense, it was an interesting view into that side of the culture.
  20. People say similar things about jazz all the time.
  21. Just got back from a two week trip to Europe, and it was amazing how much publicity the departure of Mourinho got! It was the top story across Spainish news channels for days. Anyways, had the memorable opportunity to watch the Barca/Lyon game in a seedy bar in Barcelona....a wonderful experience! Anyways, I've returned to the states with a renewed passion for the beautiful game and have made the decision to immediately order Direct TV along with every soccer channel they offer.
  22. He was pretty erratic though....
  23. I know Stanley is delusional at the best of times, but WTF is up with this statement? Vick on his way to being one of the greatest QBs in the history of the sport? Wow... just... wow! Cheers, Shane To simply play devil's advocate here, Crouch's comment may be off, but is it REALLY THAT far off? Vic was still relatively early in his career. He really was dangerous out there when he was healthy...very difficult to contain. He was definitely one of the more exciting players to watch on television. Perhaps he'd never reach the stature of a Unitas, Montana or Manning, but who knows what he could have accomplished in the next 6 or 7 years if he wasn't such a dumb ass?
  24. I didn't know they recorded that! Very nice.
