  1. Such sad news. "The Hustler" and "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" are two of my favorite films. From more recent times, I thought he took his role in "Road to Perdition", a very average film otherwise, and really single handedly gave that film alot of heart with his character. What a fine actor, and as so many of you have mentioned, a great man. RIP Paul Newman.
  2. I'm not as familiar with his music as I'd like to be, but I also really enjoy Symphony no. 5
  3. I've been listening to a band called Blitzen Trapper quite a bit lately. Very good band from Portland, OR. They have a new release on Sub Pop called "Furr", and their album "Wild Mountain Nation" from last year is excellent.
  4. What fun its been revisiting this thread! And I still think "Page One" ain't all that...
  5. I didn't know it was his b-day, but I spun Sonny Clark's "Sonny's Crib" yesterday. Great session.
  6. Is that code? I'm never sure. Its a really tasty scottish ale from Founders Brewery.
  7. I saw this movie today and really liked it alot! It was really, really funny, had some terrific performances, and a nice political slant. Wouldn't say its top tier Coen brothers comedy like "Raising Arizona" or "The Big Lebowski", but still one of the funniest movies I've seen in a while. I'm a huge Coen fan, by the way.
  8. three words.....Cinnamon Toast Crunch
  9. I have a feeling that it won't be a good season. This time, however, they will seesaw between the O and the D letting them down. No way they should have lost that game. Fortunately, I don't like football (my wife loves it), and it is easy for me to ignore the Bears. As far as I am concerned, they have already ended the season with a sub .500 season, so that's the extent of mental energy I need to expend on them. I will say, however, that the coaching of the Bears leaves a lot to be desired. I'm no longer at all impressed with Lovie, as he fired the only coach who actually performed. I'm not too sure yet that the season will be bad, but I absolutely agree with you about the coaching, Eric. Lovie should have been gone after last season.
  10. Got through disc 2 of the Parlan set. The trio sides were very enjoyable.....I had never heard them before. On to the horns!
  11. "The Great War for Civilization" - Robert Fisk
  12. Quite a nailbiter between the Bears and the Bucs this afternoon. Left me pissed off, but what can you do. Its frustrating to be a Bears fan!
  13. Disc 1 of my new Horace Parlan set. Its really nice!
  14. Got it today, 3 days after ordering online. Great service by Mosaic as always!
  15. This is the first Mosaic I've pre-ordered since the Jazztet set came out, and the Parlan set I bought last week was my first Mosaic purchase since pre-ordering the Jazztet. I don't know if I've ever anticipated a Mosaic box this much before. I've never heard this material, but consider myself to be a fan of Braxton, and I'm looking forward to spending alot of time with this one.
  16. This is a very nice session!
  17. I agree.
  18. "Survivor" - Chuck Palahniuk
  19. Just ordered it. You only live once, right?
  20. Man, this has been one of the sets I've wanted for years and was waiting until it was running low. And now I just don't have the extra $ for it. Damn.
  21. After putting it off for years, I've finally completed reading my first Philip K Dick novel, "UBIK". Absolutely loved it. What a mind trip! I'm looking forward to exploring more of his work. Thanks to jazzbo and the rest of you who contributed to this thread....it played a huge part in pushing me to finally pick up one of his books. I'm so glad I did.
  22. RIP Rick Wright. This is very sad
