  1. Sorry, I just felt the necessity to post the picture of a baby while reading this thread for some reason...
  2. In my area, with Streetlight and Rasputin's (not to mention the holy shrines up in Berkely...), Tower is a bit redundant, but yeah, when I first found it back in the early 80's, it was a godsend. Younger consumers should thank their good fortune for the fact that they never had to shop for music at K-Mart or Target. (And even Target was better five years ago; it's gotten even worse...) I remember back when getting any choices at all meant joining a record club, either the "bend over and take it" Columbia House type, or the weirdly strange (or is that strangely weird..) Records Unlimited. So yeah, BeBop; put me down as another bit of evidence for your hypothesis!
  3. Another drummer?
  4. I don't know that Fantasy selling it's jazz catalog could be good; how could it be better than it is now? But it could have been a lot, lot worse...
  5. A sad, sad day...http://www.arenabowl.com/headlines/433157.html
  6. Ooh! Ooh! I know which one! Ask me!!
  7. Now they can rerelease all this stuff in decent packaging that doesn't destroy the damned discs, and this time I'll buy it. Not to be "Mr. Contrarian", but I hate this series. I picked up the Bitches Brew set and regret it to this day. (Keep in mind I'm knocking the packaging, NOT the music!)
  8. The word "giant" is bandied about far too often in musical circles, but I don't think anyone would object to the word being applied to this man. Truly one of the great artists in our nation's history.
  9. Hey, don't blame OJ; you know how it is, once he suspected Davis Love, he just kind of zeroed in and forgot about other suspects...
  10. Wow, and here I assumed firing Knight would stop the riot...
  11. Oh. Well, see, I could believe that Furhman planted the glove, but OJ still did it. I can't quite stretch it to believe that Furhman planted the glove and OJ didn't do it. Call it "police overkill"...
  12. I think you made a very good point here, Bev. We all take Jazz too seriously many times (trying to define it, analyze it....), forgetting that it´s all about ENJOYING THE MUSIC. Yeah, that comment brought a smile to my face...
  13. So, this means I can claim I never saw it, right?
  14. Yep. Dogs are damned smart. Maybe in a few hundred thousand years they'll progress to the level of cats who are smart enough to look at you and say "fetch the damned stick yourself, motherfucker; get me some food!"
  15. I went along with the incompetence of the police and prosecution theory. Mainly the police. Let's face it, if you know anything about the history of the LAPD, and you're on the jury of a murder trial with the LAPD claiming a black man did the crime, police misconduct is just not that hard of an idea to sell. I find it interesting that Dan didn't have a choice of "not guilty because he didn't do it" in the poll and no one is objecting. But then neither am I....
  16. Damn it, I want that shirt!!! I can alternate days with my "Ask me if I give a shit" T!
  17. I simply do NOT want an explanation of the phrase "partially used nudie magazine"!
  18. I've only heard Django on the radio; there's nothing on my shelves. This one is definitely on my list of Mosaics to get before it disappears. I only hope it doesn't hit the "running low" list soon; I'm in the "hangover paying off the plastic after the CD binge" mode at the moment...
  19. Happy Bday to a fellow ex-BBBNBBBer...or something like that!
  20. To buy a Mosaic, or impregnate a female?
  21. Well, I don't know if it's a preference, or just the easiest path to take. When I first came to jazz, it was the hardbop/Blue Note type stuff, and it was exciting as hell. After a few years, it became more of an "old freind" than new and exciting, but there's nothing wrong with that. I didn't even realize I was in a rut until I made the "mistake" of ordering the Quartet Out discs from Jim Sangrey and had my ears "surgically opened" to fresh approaches again. I'm sure somewhere down the road I'll need shock treatment again...
  22. Shoot, add 10 years, and substitute more the more pop oriented Elvis Costello, Nick Lowe, Lene Lovich and Joe Jackson (but keep the Furs and Echo & the Bunnymen ) and that was me. I finally hit jazz just over five and a half years ago (so I went with 6-10 to sound cooler...). So even though I'm 46, I'm much younger in jazz years.
  23. Well, going without health insurance might be a gamble worth taking if you're young. Just keep in mind that it's still a gamble; young people get sick too. For my wife and I (me late 40s, her mid 50s) I wouldn't even consider going without health insurance unless of course circumstances forced me into it. We'd be screwed.
  24. Currently on the reading stack: Worse than Watergate by John W. Dean Bushwhacked by Molly Ivins and Lou Dubose Bias by Bernard Goldberg I figure another couple of weeks of this shit, and I'll be ready to tackle 100 Years of Solitude. Either the book or the lifestyle!
  25. Well, Hilary had this idea about health care... Seriously, though, if you'll pardon the expression, "I feel your pain". I had to go without insurance during my self employed days, and although I got lucky on the health, my teeth are only just now recovering. Have to change my name; "Cletus" doesn't fit anymore...
