What live music are you going to see tonight?
OliverM replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Was meaning to post this earlier, February 4: Christian Marclay graphic scores interpreted by Jacques Demierre (2009 score), by Noël Akchoté, Julien Eil, John Butcher, Luc Mueller and Noelle Reymond (2016 and 2005), Elaine Mitchener (2020), Alex ABH Hackett (2010). Excellent complement to the really good exhibit at the Modern Art Center in Paris. -

Where are you going on holiday this year?
OliverM replied to Pim's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
In the basque region right now (where paternal side is from). Cooking, swimming, occasional hikes, tapas, etc. The local Ravel festival this year celebrates Xenakis' 100th, so will be seeing a concert. -
Thank you, I do have access to a University library and hadn't thought of trying to borrow it through this type of inter-city book exchange program.

After 5-6 years without an electric, got a latter period Jacobacci strat model with Schaller pickups (SSH configuration) and a Fender Champ 12 tube amp (red knob) to work again. Very happy with this.

Stopping Time, Paul Bley's autobiography with David Lee is hard to find, at least in Europe. Would really enjoy reading it, if ever anyone has tips to find a copy.

Thank you Pim for the very interesting selection! Two that I have listened to in recent months (one on Bandcamp, the other borrowed on CD from local library) and should have thought about are the Khan Jamal and Vijay Iyer. The Iyer trio seems especially obvious now in hindsight. Many other albums that I have never heard and will listen to during the summer, thanks again!

Same here, Barcelona to Paris. On CD1, great sound, and already impressive variety. Thick booklet with interesting pictures. -

Hi, enjoyed listening to the selection. Baker/ Twardzik: great partnership. I've heard number 8, searching for it. Track 11 is japanese traditional "Sakura", haven't heard this Mal album.

Also treasure this one, and was wondering how much it was appreciated. -
That Select is really great, I'm happy I found a copy about a year ago. I like the fact that the original covers of the albums can also be seen in the notes, if I remember well. Right now listening to Zeitlin's 2010 solo concert record, Precipice. Interesting comment on the bonus tracks, will listen to the set with that in mind.

COVID-19 III: No Politics For Thee
OliverM replied to ghost of miles's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Pim, I (maybe also like you?) find omicron's arrival discouraging, but knowledge has progressed, the vaccines have exposed our immune systems to the virus, and that should help us. We might still get contaminated but the probability that it is severe is smaller. The virus' evolution has been very unlucky for us while scientists' ability to make vaccines has been impressive. I don't think we should judge the vaccines on the virus' mutations (those were out of the picture at the time). There aren't many "easy", obvious policies to be made in the face of this virus, which has now become extremely difficult to contain with delta and omicron.
