Good luck with the continued recovery and good luck as well with the gig.

Very cool news. I missed that piece of news when I received the email today.

I’ve added this to the front of the line for a book club I belong to. It’s more of an academic book and a bit too dry so far.

What rock music are you listening to? Non-Jazz, Non-Classical.

For Dead fans: Ready or Not is coming out today. These were nine unreleased live songs that the GD started playing in 92 or 93 with the intention that they would be part of a studio album that never came to be. -
I’m still finding lots of stuff on eBay; the tax is a minor deterrent. It’s something you’d have to pay anyway if you were purchasing the item in a physical store.

Great disc. I’m assuming they’ll be doing a 50th of Workingman’s Dead, a classic. -
Sounds as if Bird may wind back in the minors. Plantar fasciitis can handicap what you can do; I’ve lived with it for the past couple of years.

Probably needle drops.

Over the years I’ve been able to acquire 11 of their BN studio albums, all but one Japanese reissues. I also have Live at the It Club, the Resonance release, a Mercury cd (Some Like it Modern), and a twofer on Solar (one of those PD labels) containing two Mercury and Verve dates, Play Jazz on Broadway and Blue Genes.

They are not a seller but they collect the tax for taxing jurisdictions as if they were.
-
I can’t speak for any non eBay stores but I don’t believe, based on personal experience as a seller (and I could be wrong), that eBay was collecting tax for products shipped into the EU or other jurisdictions.
-
I should clarify that by reissues he was — I think — referring to a box set. I can’t recall if we had the conversation during or before the Mosaic Selects era.
-
I had a discussion with Michael Cuscuna at Mosaic’s offices and he politely threw cold water on the topic. As I recall he didn’t think a Mosaic would do well. His parting point was that he’d like to find a way to get some Three Sounds re-issues but it never happened.

The Commissioner seems to be implying harsh remedies but I don’t think it would include stripping although doing so and having no title holder for 2017 would send a very strong message.

To be honest, I’m not sure why you or Pim would be charged since you live outside the US and the tax is supposed to be paid by the buyer but I’m guessing that eBay would say that since the sale is made in the US, tax is due. However, I’ve paid tax on CDs I’ve purchased from eBay sellers in Japan. I’m guessing that eBay thinks it’s just easier to apply the tax to everybody. Here’s the eBay position on paying taxes, in case anyone is interested. https://www.ebay.com/help/buying/paying-items/paying-tax-ebay-purchases?id=4771&st=2&pos=2&query=Paying%20tax%20on%20eBay%20purchases&intent=tax

Meaning?
-
Since a US Supreme Court decision a couple of years ago (the Waystar decision, requiring taxes to be collected on internet transactions), eBay has been collecting taxes from buyers on sales, which they pay to the taxing authorities.
-
I’m guessing it’s probably not worth it, then, because of the poor sound.

Too bad, in a way. Thought it might have been something I didn’t have.
