  1. I have XM (same thing) and get the channel on Channel 70. I listen to it a lot. The only drawback is that they seem to repeat things a lot. I notice this a lot with their Classic Vinyl rock station. One of the programs that I like is the "organ hour" on Fridays at 7 pm est. I understand the comments about smaller stations and DJs but when you're on long drives where local reception fades in and out, XM Sirius is a real plus. I can also access it from work via the web, another plus.
  2. Not really. Only one team showed up. Yeah, no kidding. As far as Jim's rant about the Yanks go, it's is not about money but because they have national, strike that, international following. It's been that way for years and ain't going to change. I mean you've got Ghost and Dave who love them as an example. Naturally, Cashman is going to be asked what's next. I'm not a Yankee fan but I want to know what's next. I follow them ad much as my own team. Rangers are a nice story but come next season the attention will decrease somewhat even if they win and people will want to know what the Yanks are doing, what the Dodgers are doing, what the Red sox are doing and so forth. It's just the natural order of things. As a Mets fan, I'm used to second place status; just the way it is. When your heritage is the Babe, Gherig, Dickey, DiMaggio, Mickey, Yogi (I could go and on), you've won 27 titles and play in the most famous ballpark in the world (maybe next to Wembley), you've earned that attention.
  3. Well, that's that. Yankees looked lifeless in this game. Oddly enough I saw the last game between the Yankees and the Senators before they moved to Texas. It was a crazy scene, with the fans storming the field in the top of the ninth with the Yanks leading.
  4. I see Joba is up. Now, this makes no sense: having Kerry Wood in before Joba; the complete reverse of Game 4. You need to be consistent on how you use these guys.
  5. Two run shot. Now they are in serious shit. Relief pitching is just killing them. Girardi's on the phone but you have to be ready. Doesn't look like they are. George must be fuming.
  6. There's trouble brewing in River City.
  7. Regarding the Milk man, he wasn't that great and I think he started to go downhill the last couple of years with the Yanks. Good move to get rid of him. Re the Giants, you didn't really expect them to sweep at home?
  8. Here's another example of money talking, but not in this sport: Wayne Rooney of Manchester United in the English Premier League announced earlier this week that he was unhappy being at Man U. His manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, later announced that he was resigned to losing him and there were demonstrations outside of Rooney's home. Rooney is one of the top players in English footbaball. Today, it's announced that he's signed a new five year extension with Manchester. Oh, mi god, what a shock. Don't tell me most of them (regardless of sport) aren't motivated by the dollar or pound. But you know that's the way it probably should be. This is a business and it's their livelihood and they don't have that long to cash in on it.

    Uhhh.... huuh...
  10. I didn't see anything really extraordinary in his talk. His main point seemed that the team was unlucky, which may be the case (I didn't see the match).

If I'm not mistaken but might be he did a good one on the Bethlehem label.
  12. Think I have all of this but the thing I find odd about omitting private recordings because of the sound quality is that they've included the Redcross recordings in the hotel room. That isn't exactly pristine sound.
  13. I suppose it was a bit of a generalization but generally I think it holds true and otherwise agree with Dan. If the sole reason for Lee staying in Texas vs. coming to NY was the tax issue, that wouldn't hold the Yankees back, considering they could probably make up that number with increased merchandising sales, higher ad fees on YES and what have you, not to mention the extra revenue derived from going to the World Series, if that's what Lee would do.
  14. Nice article. I used to live in Stamford (but before I became interested in jazz). However, I did drive up there once and met Scott. However, I think he had hair then Yeah, Cindy was great. Hope she's doing well.
  15. Oh mi god, we signed Jeter! Unbelievable Seriously, players go where the money is. That's all that matters to most of them. This is Lee's big chance and maybe only one for a huge payout. He will go with the team that offers that, plus can be competitive. When discussing contracts we need to divorce emotions and keep it at dollars and cents. You go where the money is. This may be cynical but true.
  16. I thought A.J. actually pitched fairly well last night--if Joe Girardi had lifted him after the IBB, as he should have, that game might have had a very different outcome. (In fact, Jsngry, Joe's managing of the bullpen in Game 4 comes close to giving back what Texas gave to us in Game 1.) If, by some mad chance, NY made it to the World Series, we'd probably see A.J. again. Meantime, what was with the wild dude who stormed the field last night trying to attack A-Rod--allegedly because he's jealous of A-Rod's relationship with Cameron Diaz? Guy goes by the name of Grim LeRogue... posters over at Pinstripe Alley were joking that it was one of the mods. I thought he did a creditable job but Girardi a bad one by not pulling him earlier. Girardi has never impressed me; I don't think he has a clue as to what is going on. Looks like they're stuck with him as the Cubs position is now filled.
  17. Surprised nobody jumped on Dexter's True Blue
  18. I agree with Dan. I know ballplayers look at games one at a time but they have to be a little demoralized as things seemed to be going their way for a little while last night. Don't give them a chance to breathe.
  19. Based on what we've seen so far there's really nothing to indicate that they can win three in a row, particularly with the way the bullpen has been exposed. They will probably win tonight but I wouldn't bet the farm on it.
  20. Well, one batter too long. Good use of video, showing Molina hitting that HR for the Angels right before he hit it out.
  21. That Yankee fan was lucky Hamilton didn't drive in a run. Could have been NY's answer to Steve Barkman.
  22. None taken Dan. The term I've heard referred to those kinds of parents are "helicopter parents"
  23. Kevin, I'm glad things went well. We just became empty nesters as my son has gone off to college and it hasn't been an easy transition as he has some learning issues that pose a challenge (ADD and processing), plus he's not very independent, not to mention it's difficult letting go. When he's been the center of your life for the last 18 years, you say to yourself, ok, what do I do now? We are actually reading a book called "Letting Go," and it's a pretty good primer. Basically, you need to let kids learn to do things on their own or they will never become self sufficient.
