  1. I'll be getting both of these. Even with McMaster, it's better than not having it at all.
  2. Looks like he might be the kid from the Omen.
  3. I haven't gotten this one yet. How does it compare to the Golden Flute?
  4. I bought this even though I had most but not all of the material and I'm with you on this David. The sound was nice and of course the music great. I must have had it in rotation in my car for about two weeks. I think it's the best box of this kind they've produced.
  5. In their most recent newsletter, which I received yesterday, Peter Crawford, SteepleChase's US distributor (773-862-8573 and email: stateside@prodigy.net) has announced the following, available today: SCCD 36036 – Dexter Gordon Quintet “Stella By Starlight” Featuring: Dexter Gordon (tenor saxophone, Pony Poindexter (alto saxophone, vocal), Kenny Drew (piano), NHOP (bass), and Makaya Ntshoko (drums). This never before releases final program of the Montmartre broadcast series from 1965/66 finds “Long tall” Dexter in the company of his old friend from his days in California, “Little” Pony Poindexter. UPC# 716043603626.
  6. It's entirely possible and I've seen this happen when looking at other people's feedback that he might have gotten sick, or been able to communicate. Buyers (myself included) are not the most patient of people.
  7. Dave, Hope you're not just going to Ohau. I found that island a disappointment, nothing compared to the bid island or Kauai.
  8. I think it's pretty amuising that a lot of bloody time has been spent discussing what Gopnik said when nobody read his article in full except maybe skeith. I don't discount what Jim has said -- and it's probably damn true because I think a lot of his music doesn't necessarily show outward emotion (which is the kind I like best but that's me) but I'm not sure if that is what Gopnik meant. Of course I don't think anybody really knows what he meant because the more you read the statement, the less sense it makes.
  9. I've been away traveling so didn't really see this coming out, something that will be rectified tomorrow. Gopnik's statement doesn't really bother me. It's something many of us might say. We just don't expect that kind of dumb statement to wind up in print! I'm not sure what kind of emotion he's referring to. Is it open unbridled emotion or more a closely held kind. I don't think you would often find that in his playing. It's more of something waiting to be tapped into by the listener, rather than an all let it hang out type of emotion.
  10. Check out Shelly Manne and His Men - Yesterdays- on Pablo (PACD-5318-2). It's got the same cast, Kamuca, Gordon, etc. and if you liked Son of a Gunn, which I haven't gotten yet, you should like this. Any date with Richie can't be bad. They're live performances recorded in Zurich and Copenhagen when the group was on Norman Granz' J.A.T.P. They record mostly standards but it's a good pick up.
  11. Some of the Selects coming up look nice like the Pacific Piano and Tolliver but the killers will be Chu Berry and Oliver Nelson. I'm sure they're going to be fantastic.
  12. Parlan yes. Could never really get into the Hodges. Probably sell it when it retires.
  13. Can't say I've heard of this one but Hoboken is very nice. I've heard it's a great place to live. Plus, if you work in "the" City, it's a great commute.
  14. I received this email too and for those who don't have them all the Sonny Stitt dates are highly recommended, especially For Musicians Only. That's a must.
  15. Do you have the OJC, Charlie Christian - Jazz Immortal. A must in my book.
  16. I save all my old invoice sheets. I stick them under the plastic tray but since it's got personal information on it, I can't see them going anywhere but with me.
  17. Missed it but this will be a treat on the archives. Been waiting for this for awhile. Thanks.
  18. Brad

    Eddie Bert fans?

Only have the Savoy cd, like most everybody else. Nice but not spectacular.
  19. I think we all need breaks from this place. I'm about to take one myself.
  20. Wes, put the Mosaics down for a second and listen to it. You won't regret it.
  21. I'm still waiting for Volume 1 Maybe I can find it in Paris
  22. Guitar on the Go and the Wes Montgomery Trio are excellent. I think the latter one came out in a K2 last year from Fantasy.
  23. I had never heard of her until I listened to the show last night. What a dynamite show and performer. My hat's off to GOM for putting this on.
  24. I'm not sure how much I paid for it but if you email him at hiroshi@earlyrecords.com he can tell you. Everything that is in the Verve box is probably in there so if you have that abomination you probably don't need these.
  25. Damn, that's what I wanted to say
