  1. I just ordered a Ronnie Ross cd that's back in stock at DG, plus a couple of Lone Hills.
  2. I've ordered Critics Choice and the Land although I can't find out much info about the Adams but hey it's Pepper so that's all I need to know.
  3. I just called and they're hoping by the end of this week.
  4. I think the winners are pretty obvious: Spain, Czech Republic and Turkey, in that order, with Spain, the surest bet of the six. If they miss, it would be the first time since 74, not that this underachieving bunch can't sink to a new low.
  5. Although not a true jazz band, I would have thought Paul Whiteman would have had some live recordings that were recorded, maybe as airchecks.
  6. It's pretty dreary around here today in Jersey. We didn't get rain for months now we're getting more than enough. I assume this takes care of the drought emergency in some towns.
  7. Look it was not a good call. That's agreed but then it's incumbent upon the pitcher to recompose himself and get the batter out. He didn't do that. His call prolonged the inning but didn't by itself lose the game. I know White Sox and Angels fans find this series fascinating or whatever, but right now it's not doing much for me. I don't see much sizzle with the Yanks and Red Sox out.
  8. Bennie Green. One of the best Selects.
  9. ABBA? They haven't posted for a while either, a long while.

    iTunes Help!

Eric, it shows the times and then when you click on the cd to play it scrolls through all the songs like it's on acid or something. I've sent an email to Apple to see if they can help.

    iTunes Help!

I just downloaded a new version of iTunes and now it won't import a disc. What happens it imports a disc in all of five seconds and then you can't play it or burn it to a new cd. It performs the import action but it doesn't really. Any suggestions?
  12. I was thinking of joining Netflix. I tried to rent Downfall from the local blockbuster and it took four bleepin' tries before I finally got it.
  13. I don't think they have Power ball in Joisey.
  14. What about Africa Brass? Anybody know where he's at?
  15. Looks like we've forgotten that today is his birthday, so let's wish one for Art. If it wasn't for Moanin', I doubt I'd be the jazz fan I am today. WBGO was playing Nica's Dream this morning from his 1956 Columbia recording, the Jazz Messengers. First time I'd heard that disc, quintessential hard bop. Happy Birthday, Art. You'll never be forgotten.
  16. BNBB imploded so here I am, one of the early joinees. I think I've bought a couple of thing from you or vice versa. Welcome to this great place.
  17. This, of course, is a wonderful disc. As a result of this thread, I listened it today. What a groove on Shadow of Your Smile. John Patton and this song seem to fit perfectly together. Also, what can you say of Hutcherson on this date. As a sideman on this and many other discs, he just seems to makes good sessions very good ones.
  18. I prefer them at the end so I can hear the original session as released. However, I do understand the contrary view so you can hear the development of the master but I think it weighs things down. The one exception for me would be Bird. There I like to hear them in order but even there I find myself wishing for them at the end. Of course, there is the trusty remote control.
  19. I may be wrong about this but my impression that in the post bop area, the number of musicians who stayed together was a lot less than the pre bop era. I believe a lot has to do with the nature and economies of the time. From the mid 40s on, everything was more fluid, traditions uprooted and so on. I think that Duke Jordan, for instance staying with Bird for a couple of years was an anomaly.
  20. Sure, just let me know when that blessed day is
  21. I'm having an alzheimer's moment here, but what of the recordings made by the student from Columbia in the 40s, such as the Charlie Christian Jazz Immortal release on OJC, that also included a Dizzy session at Minton's.
  22. I've got a few Reservoir cds and obviously Dr. Sunenblick is well known. It's probably thanks to him that the Town Hall concert has come to light.
  23. Yesterday was my birthday and wasn't expecting anything special as a gift. Usually in the past, my wife will ask me what I want and she'll get it for me. I didn't ask for Mosaics this year. So imagine my surprise when I received the Basie Mosaic yesterday. I don't know how she chose it but she sure knew what she was doing. I wasn't shocked that I received it but that she picked one, a good one, without even asking for input. I guess all this listening must have rubbed off on her, whether she liked it or not. It made for a great day.
  24. After sticking this into the computer a couple of times and getting rejected, the computer won't even recognize the disc any more.
  25. I called Mosaic and the Selects are due in about two weeks.
