What an asshole. Even before I saw Chuck's post, my thought is why copy them. After that, fuck them, the idiots.

List updated. Includes a Japanes rare mini lp 2 cd version of Getz at Large, ending tonight.

Dream on! It is written that the Braves win every Division race til the year 2055. It is also written that the Braves then will lose in the first or second round every year. ← Dream on is right, you follower of now outlawed monikers . Losing 2 of 3 and scoring three runs the whole weekend ain't going to make it. The whole division is not that strong. Cards are going to win the league anyway.

Proper Box, Mosaic and Eldridge set Question
Brad replied to tranemonk's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Like Jim said, the Mosaic is the legit one. In Europe, it's not illegal to make these. Unethical yes, illegal no. So you can't go after Proper. -
For me, it will be the: PJ Trios Tolliver Oliver Nelson Chu Berry (the one must for me) Sidney Bechet Mulligan As far as the older sets, I've already gotten what I wanted except for the Eldridge and the Basie.
-
Counting everything, it's probably in the 50 to 60 range.

Kalo said it for me. There's just something about some of these white guys singing like Woody that just don't it for me. Some of those male vocalists on the Kenton box are deadly. Jazz for me is instrumentalists not vocalists and while I can take it occasionally not just as a general rule. That's why 9 cds of Anita O'Day is 8 cds is too much for me. Vocalists I do like are Johnny Hartman (what a voice), Earl Coleman, Billie, Ella and Louis. Ella is what a singer should sound like. Since rock is/are vocals it's not an issue there for me.

The ones that haven't made it to cd yet and then some. I probably haven't heard some of the rear early BNs like the Art Hodes, etc.

Box Design sucks Miles/Trane Col. Compl.
Brad replied to Soul Stream's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I had no problem with the designs of these boxes but getting bad cds is a definite bummer. Now, if you want to complain about a cd design, try the Evans Verve. I know we've discussed that one before but it bears re mentioning. -
WKCR in New York is now running its annual Charlie Parker birthday broadcast scheduled to run through Monday night.

This is about 20 or so minutes too early but Monday is Bird's birthday. There isn't much more to say about one of the three most influential musicians of our music ever to play but suffice it to say that I (and probably many others) wouldn't be fans of this music (or would there even be a music? -- probably yes, but not the way we know it today) but not for this man and his attempts to just play those "pretty notes." Thanks for all those Savoys, Dials, Verves and everything else. What would music be like if you were still playing today? Bird does live!!

Mets on a roll . Let's see what develops. Not going crazy yet. This is just a build up until next year but they're only 4 behind the tomahawk choppin' fools.

I think it was the Jazztet. I did get the Richards but have since sold it, the one Mosaic I really didn't like.
-
I happen to agree with Mike on this but I do think that labels do want to respect the artist nonetheless. When I said something similar to what Mike said awhile ago, man I got raked over the coals.

I wouldn't say he's my favorite but he was also at the forefront or involved in many significant jazz movements: bop, cool, hardbop. Helping to make Coltrane a big name. It's hard to ignore those kinds of facts. Yes, he is well know to the non jazz public and that is so because of the Columbia machine. While I don't care much of the post 65 material, the stuff with Gil Evans, the 50s material and the early 60s is very damn good. KOB is classic, etc., etc. That's why he's big.

Well, they're all types of scams but I wouldn't mind if he bid on one of mine.

If Mosaic Was A Man, What Would His First Name Be?
Brad replied to JSngry's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
You clearly have too much time on your hands. Ok, Michelangelo. -
Couldn't agree more about that and I'm not one for excessive drumming.
-
Just to reemphasize what I said on a thread I started about these cds being protected, it would be a mistake not to pick up these discs, even if they are copy protected. You're missing some great music and that to me would be a mistake.

Wow, that's some serious bucks. The Maynard Ferguson Mosaic is not doing badly either, at $50 per cd. Never got a chance to buy this. What's the verdict on this (not that I'm going to bid).

I think Michael Cuscuna and his lawyers will be knocking on your door soon -
Bud Powell @ Birdland '53, Vol. 1 and 2
Brad replied to doubleM's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Grab 'em? Indubitably, yes. -
One hears autumn, the other spring. I hear economy of notes but a full sound if that makes any sense and colors that are imbued with relaxation.

The local Borders' stores that I frequent have cut back but they also get the new reissues from the big record stores so at least it's not that bad. I don't think you can necessarily blame the accountants or the retailers. It's a function of what the public, by and large, wants and they generally don't want jazz so retailers will cater to the jazz public but it's not a large public and they'll allot space to things that sell.
