  1. I think it was the Jazztet. I did get the Richards but have since sold it, the one Mosaic I really didn't like.
  2. I happen to agree with Mike on this but I do think that labels do want to respect the artist nonetheless. When I said something similar to what Mike said awhile ago, man I got raked over the coals.
  3. I wouldn't say he's my favorite but he was also at the forefront or involved in many significant jazz movements: bop, cool, hardbop. Helping to make Coltrane a big name. It's hard to ignore those kinds of facts. Yes, he is well know to the non jazz public and that is so because of the Columbia machine. While I don't care much of the post 65 material, the stuff with Gil Evans, the 50s material and the early 60s is very damn good. KOB is classic, etc., etc. That's why he's big.
  4. Well, they're all types of scams but I wouldn't mind if he bid on one of mine.
  5. You clearly have too much time on your hands. Ok, Michelangelo.
  6. Couldn't agree more about that and I'm not one for excessive drumming.
  7. Just to reemphasize what I said on a thread I started about these cds being protected, it would be a mistake not to pick up these discs, even if they are copy protected. You're missing some great music and that to me would be a mistake.
  8. Wow, that's some serious bucks. The Maynard Ferguson Mosaic is not doing badly either, at $50 per cd. Never got a chance to buy this. What's the verdict on this (not that I'm going to bid).
  9. I think Michael Cuscuna and his lawyers will be knocking on your door soon
  10. Grab 'em? Indubitably, yes.
  11. One hears autumn, the other spring. I hear economy of notes but a full sound if that makes any sense and colors that are imbued with relaxation.
  12. The local Borders' stores that I frequent have cut back but they also get the new reissues from the big record stores so at least it's not that bad. I don't think you can necessarily blame the accountants or the retailers. It's a function of what the public, by and large, wants and they generally don't want jazz so retailers will cater to the jazz public but it's not a large public and they'll allot space to things that sell.
  13. Nice mark up.
  14. This is a new one on me; I've never had that happen. Is this possibly due to age or just repeated use?
  15. Bertrand, Very well put. They've kept their material in print for years unlike other labels and for that we should be eternally grateful. I'm particular thankful for all the Blue Mitchell cds not to mention the Bill Evans K2 cds.
  16. Going back to listen to the Joe Pass one, haven't heard that in a while.
  17. In my view, this is still important to reissue for a newer generation of fans, then if for nothing else.
  18. Wan't aware that it had been out that recently since I only became a jazzer in 98 but from my perspective this one is not that common and I'm glad to see it come out again for the newer fans.
  19. Well, you know what they say about a sucker being born every minute. Gimme that lollipop
  20. The other Venus that I have of Hazeltine's (thank to Dan Gould's suggestion), Senor Blues, is a worthy pickup. I was about to play it and can't find it. Great filing system
  21. Ditto
  22. Getting the RVGs is probably worth it although those are not bad already and if they have any inventory of OJCs, then that can't be bad.
  23. Brad

    iPod tube amp

I think the ipods sound pretty good already but that must really boost the sound.
  24. Yup, glad you got the Ory. Sounds like that supply is down to five or less, maybe less.
  25. If it's 3 to 5 weeks, that's not airmail but economy. I've been selling some cds lately and they get over to the continent in less than a week. Shipping couldn't be more than $20 although I don't know what you're paying.
