  1. That's a very interesting link. Thanks Brandon. However, for jazz freaks, it only probably makes sense if you use an external hard drive. This showed how to do that so it was very useful in that regard. Plus, it would take forever to do so if you have a decent collection. But great link.
  2. I thought the original was great. Imparted a very good message. I saw an interview with Johnny Depp tonight where he said he deliberately did not look at the movie again. Just relied on the book, which is also great. BTW, another great Dahl book is the Witches, about a boy who stumbles into a witches convention. Really great.
  3. I'm guess I'm neutral about him. Something about his style that leaves me in the middle.
  4. On the tubs, I like Art Blakey, Philly Joe and Art Taylor. Those would be my favorites.
  5. Really diggin' the Randy Weston box. No idea that it was this good.
  6. Well worth it. Disclaimer: I'm a big Charlap fan. ← That's no disclaimer. That's a recommendation
  7. I don't get this Schilling as closer thing. Let him get back his strength however long it takes. He's out of position here. It's a desperation move and one that needs some sort of transition to be effective. I would have waited until he's fully ready.
  8. To my ears the sound on the TOCJs is better than the Mosaic (in comparison), but that doesn't mean the sound on the latter is not acceptable, given the quality (or lack thereof) of the recordings. ← Agreed, although if I had the cash I might go for the TOCJs and do what Hans is or will be doing.
  9. I'd also have to vote for Fresh Sounds, with a vote for Blue Moon (although I'm not sure they're not part of Fresh Sounds). What about V.S.O.P.? They put out the old Mode label and that was a great label. I'm not sure if Mosaic belongs in this post since they're affiliated with BN.
  10. Anyone get this yet?
  11. Any thoughts on this one?
  12. Hard to argue with that. I've heard a lot of complaints about the sound vis a vis the TOCJs (which I don't have). Is that true?
  13. I bought this for $20 so no complaints here. The live disc is good, worth picking up if you're into Miles. There's a different version of Salt Peanuts and really liked Woody 'N You. How often does an unheard Miles session come along, esp. from the 50s? Not often, it's like the Town Hall Concert of Bird's in my view. A worthy pickup.
  14. I hadn't heard of this until now but sounds pretty dumb. I mostly listen to jazz. Why would I want to hear jazz, then rap, then rock, etc. Boring!
  15. Un poco tarde pero feliz cumpleanos Agustin!
  16. On the day I listened, Phil was really talking it up, giving Uptown's address, the whole thing.
  17. That is good. One of the great sets. Hope you kept copies of the book.
  18. Relax, it's not his first post -_-
  19. Here's my big question, Hans, how come you sold it? Did you get the TOCJ's?
  20. I received this yesterday from Big Al. So many thanks to Jim and Big Al. I hope to start listening tonight although I can see I'm way behind.
  21. Jim, The link is a couple of posts up from Steve Albin. What I was looking for was links to all the Mosaic discographies that Mike said he had done but it turns out they're only available through the Brian software although somehow the NKC discorgraphy is on this link but then if you shorten the link to see the list of artists, NKC doesn't appear. I don't know if I confused the matter further but I guess it's not a big deal.
  22. I looked at the Cole discography, grouped after Artists but then when I go to the Artists page, there's nothing there. I don't see a list of Mosaic discographies that I can access.
  23. Mike, I didn't see the discographies for these sets. I see the listing of the sets in your temp file but not the actual discography. Could you please provide a link. Thanks.
  24. These are now slated for August 2 and with the other RVGs coming out that day this looks like an expensive Tuesday.
