All those formerly Savoy issues are now Columbia issues. Anybody know why that is?

Well, the Mets finally swept a series. It's about f'in time. They've been here before (3 over 500) so this weekend will be interesting. It would behoove them to sweep again. That would make them 6 over as they hit the road.

I don't get the comment about Fuego. It happens to be a great cd. I haven't picked up the Hancock yet. Might not. Most of his stuff leaves me cold. Different strokes....That's what makes the world go around, as the trite saying goes.

We usually get excited about things that in the overall scheme of things aren't that significant. People come, people go. It's the nature of things.

I presently have the following Mosaics on ebay: Woody Herman Capitol Johnny Richards Select

My philosophy is too start them low but not that low.

Yeah, the whole address.

It seems to have spawned an interview with Bob Sunenblick scheduled to appear in the July 31 issue. We await. ← Do you mean in the NYT magazine or else where in the paper that day?

Thank you Scotty for your part in WW2 and for Star Trek. RIP.

That's why this isn't on my list. Temple Jazz, I don't have anything specific in my mind. But the Grant Green release awhile back, Goin West, was a step in the right direction, as is the Freddie Redd.

Just saw this. I think they're doing what is easy: put out the big names and the big reissues but I'd like to see the more rarer issues in the Blue Note stable. On a separate point, the Sunday Morning RVG has a new alternate take. Is this the same as on the Conn?

It indeed is a bad thing but look at the state of our culture where pap like Desperate Housewives attracts audiences or all these reality shows. What does that tell you. I'm not trying to be arrogant but sometime I feel that people like us are the last respository of culture in this country.

um -- about the desmond: http://half.ebay.com/cat/buy/prod.cgi?cpid...6830&pr=3049385 ← What's your point? ← Get it cheaper from the link? ← Maybe, but not if you're outside North America, they don't ship overseas. Besides, I don't think it's fair to post links to cheaper copies or mention ways to obtain cheaper copies in a seller's thread, even if you've got something against them. ← I just don't think it's too nice what Evan did. Buyers can figure that out and this person is telling you what he's got available.

7/4, how do you get those articles before the publication date. I've tried before to no avail.

There's an article about Jack Radio in tomorrow's NYT. As soon as I can get it, I will post it.

Okay, perhaps I was a but too subtle in my initial post... I'm not suggesting that this is some new revalation. Quite the opposite. The process he describes is a no-braner in the first place. I seldom hold onto commercially issued CDs. I rip them onto iTunes and sell them almost immediately...unless, of course, they have cool artwork or interesting liners. Otherwise, 4"x4" artwork is nothing I'm worried about keeping. And yes, external drives are imperative...jazz or otherwise. Anyway, the point of the post was not so much the writer's suggestion as it was the very concept of "digitizing" an already inherently digital medium. The title of the piece assumes that CDs are somehow analog. ← No, I did get the humor but found the external drive instructions useful.
-
That's a very interesting link. Thanks Brandon. However, for jazz freaks, it only probably makes sense if you use an external hard drive. This showed how to do that so it was very useful in that regard. Plus, it would take forever to do so if you have a decent collection. But great link.

Movie: Charlie And The Chocolate Factory
Brad replied to Soulstation1's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I thought the original was great. Imparted a very good message. I saw an interview with Johnny Depp tonight where he said he deliberately did not look at the movie again. Just relied on the book, which is also great. BTW, another great Dahl book is the Witches, about a boy who stumbles into a witches convention. Really great. -
I'm guess I'm neutral about him. Something about his style that leaves me in the middle.

On the tubs, I like Art Blakey, Philly Joe and Art Taylor. Those would be my favorites.

Really diggin' the Randy Weston box. No idea that it was this good. -
Well worth it. Disclaimer: I'm a big Charlap fan. ← That's no disclaimer. That's a recommendation
