  1. That's a little more than I want to spend. You also have to subscribe. That's another added cost. Maybe at bonus time next year.
  2. Well, don't make it a habit
  3. Yeah, that's an incredible record, discussed here.
  4. I saw him in concert several months ago with Harold and he's good although Harold was better. And I had this disc but it just didn't jump out at me. Yes, it's solid but there's something missing. There was quite an extended discussion that involved EA on a discussion about one of Dan's BFT.
  5. Well, if you don't have an ear, forget about the other organs
  6. No offense and I'm no musician but I don't get what you're saying. That's the essence of the alto. Sonny doesn't sound that far off from Bird (that's why Sonny stopped playing it for awhile). Are you saying Bird's sound is not pleasing to you?
  7. I think we all need breaks now and then. I've been taking on and off for awhile; just not posting so much. It's cyclical.
  8. They play crap because they sell crap and know crap about music. Just like the phrase that "america gets the government it deserves", americans get the music they deserve. Most of the population just doesn't know crap.
  9. Looking forward to it. Thought I might have missed out while I was on vaca!
  10. I had never heard of Ron's statement until now but I find nothing wrong with some of those old masterings. They sound good to me and without a better alternative I'm sticking with what I have.
  11. For me, it's like buying a used car; you don't always know what you're getting, even though it's probably ok. I just like (and have always liked the idea of new).
  12. These don't strike me as something I want to rush out and purchase.
  13. I received the Richards and spun it a little bit. The music is a little to say, unusual. Not your normal orchestrations.
  14. Still waiting for DG to get back to me.
  15. I have the bottom one. No complaints.
  16. Bud Powell for less than $40? That's a steal.
  17. Can't say I have one, yet.
  18. I assumed this out but it looks like it's not due to be released until next week.
  19. Stretching is key. I have a five minute routine I do every work day. Also you can do exercises just sitting in your chair and try to get up and move around hourly. I actually brought a timer into work just to remind me to do that.
  20. I must be the only one that didn't find the bebop Gryce recordings particularly fascinating. A lot of it didn't strike me as bebop and the music just didn't hit. I also didn't find the arrangements particularly fascinating. The other that I picked up, among them Sidney Bechet were outstanding, particularly that one.
  21. I particularly found fascinating the story about how this music was found. I knew nothing about "pickers" until I read the notes.
  22. I like Academy and Tower up by Lincoln Center. I don't like Virgin: the location, the prices, etc.
  23. Sounds like a must. I haven't been that thrilled with some of his offerings lately. Nice but sort of blah.
