  1. Hey Lon, how about joining in. You must have a lot of goodies to part with
  2. What does she like to listen to?
  3. With all due respect, I find statements like Lee is the only one for me quite hard to fathom since Donald has such a sweet sound. But beyond that have you listened to Brownie, Blue Mitchell, Tommy Turrentine, Kenny Dorham, Woody Shaw, Carmell Jones or even Freddie Hubbard of the late 50s to early 60s. While I love Lee, there are many, many other brilliant trumpeters. If you made a statement like that you obviously haven't listened to them and I strongly suggest that you do before you make a statement like that again. I also strongly disagree with your views about Pepper. While I have no objection to Gerry Mulligan and enjoy listening to him, for the hard driving hard bop sound of that ear, Pepper is THE MAN! actually I have listened to ALL of those trumpeters... I have plenty of Clifford Brown and the Carmell Jones Select .... I enjoy both of them but IMHO, in the hard bop vein (hate to use that label)... I do place Lee Morgan in a seperate class... (both as a trumpeter and a composer)... Just because I disagree with you doesn't mean I don't know what I'm talking about.... I'm glad you like Pepper... but I still stand by my comments... that if I wanted more baritone I'd still go with the Mulligan set... Sorry if I offended you with that statement but if you make a statement like that AFTER you've heard all those and you place someone like Brownie behind Lee, that's clearly mind blowing and just wrong headed, in my view. Of course, you're entitled to your opinion.
  4. I've just ordered this so I'll let you know.

  6. That's good. I gotta check that out.
  7. Damn right! If we got into the sessions where he excelled as a sideman, we'd be here for awhile.
  8. Any views on this one. I heard You'd be so nice to come to on the radio the other day and was impressed. Any thoughts?
  9. Too bad about the gig. Well, I'm throwin' in the towel. See ya in the am. Oh, yeah, it already is.
  10. Has anyone heard of or heard this cd released on a label called Jazz Magnet? Any views?
  11. I'm wondering if this is the least active we've ever been. Of course, it is almost 130 in the am: 10 guests, 10 members 2 anonymous members Brad, Noj, sonic1, brownie, etherbored, b3-er, indigo, AfricaBrass, TheMusicalMarine, Ron S
  12. If you haven't opened and loved Worktime, you're not worthy. Forget it. It's over for you, dude. Turn in your Organissimo card.
  13. After that initial post, I still can't fathom that someone couldn't be into Pepper. Here's a list of Pepper albums that I have that I unreservedly recommend: The Cool Sound of Pepper Adams – Regent 6066 (SV-0198) Encounter - Prestige 7677 (OJCCD-898-2) The Master – Muse 5213 10 to 4 At the Five Spot - Riverside 1104 (OJCCD-031-2) Pepper Adams Quintet - Mode Records MOD LP-112 (V.S.O.P. #5 CD) Urban Dreams – Quicksilver Records 4006 Another set with Donald Byrd as the leader is Live at Half Note which was RVGed not that long ago. If you can find Jazzmen Detroit issued by Savoy under Kenny Burrell's leadership, that's also quite marvelous. The last one on Quicksilver is really good. Hell, they're all good.
  14. Reading this thread makes me feel like a damn outsider lookin in through the window. There's obviously not a fat chance that I'll even get a breath of this
  15. This is a policy Jim annnounce on Day 1 and I've scrupulously followed. If I think someone wants something, I pm them. A reminder every now and then doesn't hurt.
  16. Lou Donaldson - Say It Loud! This really rocks.
  17. Charlie Parker At the Royal Roost Massey Hall Jazz Messengers Night at Birdland and at the Bohemia Jazz Messengers at Olympia in Paris Sonny Stitt at the DJ Lounge Sonny Stitt Just in Case You Forgot How Bad He Is --- and he was bad!
  18. Amen to that brother. The sound on this is so amazing, it blows me away. But what's incredible is the music, how crisp and fresh it is. This only whets my apptetite for the Mosaic coming out. It should be just amazing.
  19. yea I've got the JJ, Parlan and some of the Chambers (which came out as individual CDs years ago...) Can't quite get into the Pepper Adams/Bryd stuff... I can't figure out that statement. This is some great stuff. Not on this set, but have you heard Pepper's 10 to 4 at the Five Spot. Amazing! I never heard anybody make this statement before. When it comes to baritone, it's Pepper for me, no slight intended to anyone else. This is your last Mosaic of the year? Yeah, right and I've got a bridge to sell you
  20. I've got a semi box set, it's Proper's The Engine Room, four cd set of jazz drumming up through the bop period. The catch is that there is no volume 1. When I got it they included an extra modern drumming cd, instead of New Orleans and Chicago Styles. The other 3 cds are good though. Includes the slip case and booklet. Pm me if interested.
  21. I think several of us will be doing that at the least. But I don't have high hopes. I don't think ebay will take the side of a big seller over a couple of buyers. After all they get paid for sales. Even if they do, I'm not sure what the remedies are. Maybe they'll warn UMG, who knows. They'll probably suggest you go through the mediation thing. And let's face it, are any of us going to sue over $99? I doubt it. They'll obviously be getting mega negative feedback but they've got a few already so I don't think that going to worry UMG too much. Kevin, I don't think you should think this is your fault. They might have discovered it eventually anyway. So, it's just coincidence.
  22. Edward, Thanks for posting that. The Donovan case is quite interesting but I think it may be difficult to surmount because of this concept of unconsionability. The best thing going in our favor not only did they accept the funds but that they had already completed several transactions before they attempted to rescind the last two or three.
  23. There is a concept at law called mistake. It has been many years since I studied it but my recollection is that if there is a mutual mistake, that is both parties were mistaken as to the item (Verve made a mistake and we knew that they did -- the price should have been more), that's a voidable transaction. However, if it's unilateral (Verve made the mistake but we thought that we were buying it for $99 and that was the price), it's a good deal and can't be undone. If I've said it correctly, that's the theory. Whether it holds up is another story. One factor that people should point out that they delivered the sets at this price and they shouldn't be allowed to profit from their mistake. It would be unequal application if some received and others didn't.
  24. I got an email this morning saying it would be shipped in a business day (Monday) so we'll see.
  25. Jeez, I hope I get my set. I'll be ticked if I don't. I checked my paypal account and I haven't gotten a refund so I hope they'll honor it. If not, I'll be sending them a legal type email/letter.
