Those guys are so different, just musically, so there's no way they could even be similar plus Moose is so wacked out, there's no way that could be the same.

Dan, Since the cops don't seem to work, it would seem the next best thing is, unfortunately, a court. They must be violating some noise or nuisance statutes. It's unfortunate to have to resort to something like this but unless the cops step it up, you don't seem to have many other options. You shouldn't have to put up with this.

Which Mosaic Are You Enjoying Right Now?
Brad replied to Soulstation1's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
Thad Jones. How good is Billy Mitchell. This guy needs more recognition. -
I'm at a conference so I can't relisten but I am surprised that it isn't who I thought it was. I didn't think the other guesses were right so I'm at a bit of a loss for Open the Door Richard.

Has anybody heard this. I was going to bed last night and turned on WBGO and was starting to doze off when one of the cuts from this album came on. He's got a real nice sound with a lot of different ideas coming out of his horn. It got me up and I wrote his name down so I wouldn't forget. I haven't seen his name too much although I see that he's on Danny D'Imperio's album Big Band Bloviation.

5 Things I Accomplished With Organissimo Down
Brad replied to Soulstation1's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I'm not going to even ask what Rosey is -
I'm glad I don't work at home. I'd never get anything done. I know others can do it but I would be so distracted.
-
Jim, This may be a reach but did you try Peter Crawford at Stateside. He seems to get a lot of different things from Scandinavia.
-
Paul, that's true. Sorry for being pigheaded. That's why there's diversity. I remember somebody posting the same thing when I sold the George Braith cd and somebody else congratulating me for doing so.

Well, I've listened to Disc 2 and it's a honey of a disc and I don't have time now to post all my impression but I can see Ray really likes this artist. The phrase "Open the Door Richard" is a dead give away.

Resuming where we left off. I may not have thanked everybody sufficiently (except maybe for Tony, Dan, Jim R and Jim S), so thanks Couw, Randy, William, Jim Dye, Alexander, Thomas and Ray for the effort you guys have put in.
-
Well, it's good to be back. 7/4, Wesbed and I agree: we don't have a life unless it's Jazz!
-
Why are you selling Bud Powell. That's sacrilege, man.
-
I would have loved to see a Garner Mosaic. Too bad. I guess I'll just have to settle for the Classics.

Hey Ray, What's with the hucklebuck? I assume you know that's from Now's the Time but Bird never got proper credit for it.
-
I just peeked at some of the other answers and some of the other conversation about Disc 2, esp. track 3. That is without a doubt Bird and there is no question that is Now's the Time, originally on Savoy. That's Diz on piano, sitting in for Sadik Hakim (Argonne Thornton) and Miles on tp, Curly Russell and Max. If I didn't know that one, I should be shot. Been working on that one at home.

Before Mike Weil send the BFT police after me here goes for Disc One: 16. This is the best song of the disc; everybody is in sync and the sax is really stunning. He's really conveying a unique message. I don't know who he is but he's gifted. I'd buy this. 1. St. Louis Blues but to me the percussion ruins it. They're trying to do much around a fairly good pianist. 2. This would be another buy for me. No idea who the horns are but I get a sense that this song has roots in the Caribbean. 3. cool song. Made me laugh. No idea who but jazz does wash those troubles away. 4. No idea. Not crazy about the violin. 6. Earl Hines maybe. I'm a sucker for solo piano. 9. Don't get this or know this. Assume it's African or African based. Reminds me at times of a child's song. Raffi almost comes to mind. 10. Again too much percussion. 11. Don't know who but a good arrangement of a Broadway song. 12. This was great. Really restrained guitar just sets a pattern, a tone. 14. I don't who these guys are but this was fabulous. Playing over and under the theme. Might buy this. Puts you in a dance mood. I'll try to post about Disc 2 later. Thanks again Ray.

Perhaps it's a poor choice of words on my part, but it's essentially the same thing. The end result is the same.

Well, I guess you guys can count me as one of the ones who hasn't yet thanked Ray. So thank you for getting this to me and my apologies for not having thanked you sooner. I haven't contributed that much lately to BFTs and if you guys want to rake me over the coals, so be it. I frankly don't have as much time as I used to, what with working until 730 or so every night. I believe that when you sign up, you should thank the person but I don't where you all think you get the right to ban somebody. This is not your board but Jim's. This is not an exclusive little club but something we hope we get something from, even if we don't participate. I'm not in this for the thanks but to spread a little music around. When it gets to be my turn sometime next year, I'm not here looking for thanks but to give others an idea of what I like to listen to. So, please, let's get off the high horse and if you guys would like to toss me of this forum because my participation hasn't been too active lately, suit yourselves.

Hope this is not too late but Happy Birthday Chuck for keeping us on the straight and narrow

My only thought on this, as you correctly summarized it, is that this is not old folks music even though I'm 53. I've only been a fanatic for six years and what that means is that you need to attain a certain maturity to appreciate this music (even though you may not understand everything you're hearing). I don't think that I could have appreciated Elvin, Art, Bird, Coltrane, Duke, etc. at that age. Some, of course, can, but I think a lot can't. The closest that an inexperienced person could get to understanding jazz would be soul jazz because it's so guttural. If you can't appreciate Jimmy Smith or Groove Holmes, you ain't got no soul, whatever age you are. And at that age, I loved soul. At any rate, with maturity comes wisdom and I hope that some of the younger generation will appreciate this music, that we're desperately trying to keep alive in our collective memories.

Just received my set today too and right now I'm listening to Disc 2, the Lee Morgan session. The number is 2032.
