  1. As John McLaughlin would say...and I quote... 'WRONG...Next Topic" Hold on doggy, just because it's my opinion doesn't make it wrong. And this is not a good session.
  2. And speaking of a whiter shade of pale, what is a procol harem and should I try to get a harem?
  3. I agree with everything that's been said here so far about Mosaic. Just love those guys to death. Buying the Sonny Stitt set made me a huge Sonny fan. And by the way, the Herman set is not due out until the last week of July, for those of you getting antsy
  4. God knows why they're releasing it but I was like Wesbed before I started this thread way back when. Since it has generated so much discussion, pick it up. Just be forewarned, that's all.
  5. I believe, if Cookers was only an obscure live session, we wouldn't discuss it because we wouldn't be aware of it. It is a Blue Note session, however. It is known, available, and perfomed by some of the best. Obscure or not, there are some big jazz names involved with this recording. To my ears, they are playing in a most excellent, live, raw format. Gives me the tingles. Claude couldn't be more right about this session. This one is a dog and not one with fleas either. Just because it's on BN doesn't make it good. They took a flier on it and it didn't work. They figured it would sell. Maybe it did but it's a bad bad session. Should have stayed in the vaults.
  6. I read the explanation but I don't buy it. To me, they're still different.
  7. See this link for a more extended discussion.
  8. He's got a nice Sonny Stitt album on there although I think it's on the Mosaic.
  9. I just saw that Proper has come out with a new series called "A Proper Introduction To....", single disc introductions to a particular artist. Jazz Review, the UK jazz journal, reviewed a couple in this month's magazine and one of them was some of Wynton Kelly's recordings for Blue Note in the early 50s. I'm not sure Blue Note EMI can do much about it since we're past the 50 year mark for the recordings but I wonder if they'll be vigilant about trying not to let these show up in the US. I would assume not since CD Universe is selling this disc as well as the Jazz Factory (Definitive) version of the same sessions.
  10. I think Back to the Tracks is the only one that hasn't been issued domestically but I could be wrong about that since I've had the TOCJ of it for awhile.
  11. A couple that come to my mind are Night in Tunisia Moanin Shawnuff Salt Peanuts Now's the Time Koko
  12. I've got too many to be able to figure it out although I do have a reviewer's copy or promotional one that I got through ebay that has the area for the number xxxed, with the the promotional identification.
  13. Bertrand, the recently issued Junior Mance two fer left out a song.
  14. Only the Blues was on the Tower site a while ago. I don't know if it is now. I've seen it on Ebay from time to time.
  15. I'm in the majority about his singing. I find it hard to take at times but I'm really looking forward to this set. Tod, you can't check out. You've got to at least wait for the Keynotes Hope you're feeling better.
  16. Email sent. Thank Marcus.
  17. I think the key here is how well you treat your cds. I think most of us here are probably nuts about that kind of thing where I see my son not really caring as to condition. I've found that it's pretty hard to abuse a cd so if you treat them right they should last. I don't have a lot of cds from the mid 80s but the ones that I do play fine.
  18. Ditto on the nice list. Have just about everything but may upgrade on some of them.
  19. I don't particularly like the new format. It's not that easy to read but we live in an age of "if it's not broke, fix it." If they make us pay for it in the near future, I suppose I'll have to anty up.
  20. I agree with you in part. Yes, don't muck it up while remastering it but also don't throw the baby out with the bath water. In looking at that Hoffman forum, I found the whole tone a little patronizing towards Rudy, which bothers me, especially with the participation of some members here. It's not a science and it's imperfect as Mr. Hoffman recognizes.
  21. I second Chuck's opinion. Much (too much) is made of the remastering as opposed to getting the music out to those who want to hear it.
  22. That dancing dude is cool. Let's add him to what we already have.
  23. My choice would have been Blakey although I'm not sure about Prestige. What about Cannonball?
  24. I've got a CDR of this so never picked up the Conn. It's not my favorite Mobley session of the 60s or even the 50s but hey it's Hank. It's a lot better than Reach Out, that's for sure.
