  1. Brad, if there Was proof, you'd pay $2400 for a cork and nasty-looking brush? Reminds me of a caption on a display case in a Museum of WWII in Russia. Subjects that belonged to Private Ivanov - a rusty nail with which he charged the German officer and a bullet from his skull. Dude lived large... Nope. Not even with proof. But if I were a collector I wouldn't even consider it without the requisite proof.
  2. Do I get a free sealed JRVG or VICJ for the tip ?
  3. Wasn't someone looking for this a while ago. Great opening price. I'm not the seller. Also saw Rare Tracks: The Other Side of BN 4000. This is a great 4 cd collection, with decent liner notes. At a great price too. Also not the seller.
  4. I once saw Volume 1 (a couple of years ago) at Jazz Record Center for $450. Unfortunately, it was too rich for my blood. But I posted seeing it and I knew it was gone within hours. I've had to settle for the few cd issues available.
  5. Brownie, just sent you a PM back.

  7. Hey maren, were you on wbgo today. They said somebody named maren was hosting the midday show for having pledged $500. Was that you?
  8. Thank you for the advice and the PM from Moose. Yes, I'll just live with it. Ticks me off though. As far as going on vacation, the auction ended on April 3, I invoiced him on the 4th and hadn't received his check by the 8th when I was off from work. When he asked about it, I told him I was on vacation and would check the box when I returned. That apparently wasn't good enough for the idiot. As a buyer, I've had sellers not send me something for a couple of weeks for one reason or another including job, vacation, etc. That's ok I understand. Maybe I'm too understanding but I wouldn't leave a negative because of that. Well, time to move on.
  9. I sold an item on ebay and the buyer left negative feedback. He claimed I didn't respond to him fast enough (I was on vacation at the time). He left negative feedback within 2 weeks of the sale of the item even though he has it by now. Because this was the only I've ever received, it pissed me off enough so that I started a case with Square Trade but they closed it because the buyer said he was having "technical difficulties" using Square Trade. ST said I could talk to ebay but what I want is the negative feedback retracted. Will ebay do that or should I just forget about it. Any advice is appreciated.
  10. That makes two of us.
  11. I chose option 3, to pay for all my jazz sets (mosaic, fantasy, verve) that I need to purchase this year Seriously, I stole 10 pesos from our maid when we lived in Uruguay in the mid 50s. For what you ask? To buy toys, not the latest jazz lp. When the maid complained that someone had stolen some money from her, I tried the Nixon tack but unlike him, I soon admitted it and had to work it off to pay her back. That's the extent of my larceny. Now, getting back to how I'm going to pay for those sets.....
  12. I've never seen any thing related to rap where women, if they're not being put down, are merely viewed as sex toys. To me rap is not only degrading to women but presents a very negative view of African Americans in toto. I find rap to be a blasphemy in its entirety. It's sad that this country which has produced jazz and soul has come to this as a form of musical expression.
  13. Sadly, that's true.
  14. I am fully with Lon on this one and thanks for posting the link because we've all weighed in on this before. Although it's not a limited set, any idea why Mosaic stopped selling the lp version. Did they just not want to make any more lp sets?
  15. I can't believe there's more buzz about these releases. Anyway, the Zoot release (I'm no Zoot expert) is unusual apparently because he apparently didn't play on alto too much. In response to Alexander's comment, the liner notes supply explanation why it doesn't sound live. Falcon's Lair was the name of Doris Duke's home to whom Joe Castro was married and he invited musicians over there to jam and he recorded the sessions. There sounds like there are other sessions and I'd love to hear them. The sound is very good and there is some really great music here.
  16. His reserve is probably his buy it now. In any event, he's asking you to take his word for it and in this day and age we would need a little more proof than that. There's no way to test his statement so forget about it.
  17. That's just incredible. I'm sure the seller must be flabbergasted.
  18. Ditto on the Zoot Sims cd. Regarding the Bud Powell cd, if you're a bop fan, this is a must. The first 8 tracks are from a Royal Roost jam session and features Cecil Payne, J.J. and Buddy DeFranco. On two of the numbers, Buddy takes some beautiful solos (Garth, take note ). The sound, as you might expect, isn't the best but it's typical sound from the Roost. The latter part of the record is made up of Bud when he was vacationing with Francis Paudras and family at Edenville after he was recovering from TB. Some related material has come out on Black Lion, including Salt Peanuts (although I don't know if the versions of the song on both cds are the same). This material on the Pablo cd is good late Bud and I Remember Clifford is very moving. Hot House with Johnny Griffin is spectacular, over 18 minutes. The liner notes by Ted Panken look to be good although I only glossed over them so far.
  19. I'll echo Mike's comment. It's a little -- I don't want to say nasty or mean -- too much to compare her to Norah. She's a jazz singer and that's what she wants to be, unlike Norah.
  20. Man, this has got to be one of the funniest things I've ever seen on Ebay. 50,000 hits? That's amazing.
  21. Yeah, I know what you mean by feeling like the woman in the first photo
  22. Since these are apparently Disconforme, can I assume that they're ripoffs and skip 'em?
  23. Brad

    Jerry Dodgion

James, I've ordered the cd so I'll let you know how it sounds when I get it.
  24. Just a reminder, but these are coming out tomorrow.
  25. Thanks for the tip. For some reason, I've had trouble doing that in the past.
