  1. The Charlie Byrd Trio (& guests) at the Village Gate. Riverside/OJC
  2. Duke-Piano in the Foreground-Columbia/Legacy
  3. Contagious! Starting the day with Duke: Piano in the Background. Columbia/Legacy.
  4. Rahsaan Roland Kirk-Blacknuss-Atlantic/Rhino One of my fav dudes of all time.
  5. Dig both! Now: Portrait of Cannonball, Julian Adderley Quintet. Riverside/OJC.
  6. Who does this? Wow. 3K+ for Kind of Blue? Never realized Columbias fetched these kind of prices nowadays. Has Kind of Blue ever slipped out of print? Even when I met my wife 25 years ago, she had a copy, that I know she didn't lay no more than a bill or two on. Is a two-eye, v. a six-eye, gonna break the bank? Mono v. Stereo? Wasn't that LP fucked up with a speed issue, once it originally left the pressing plant back in 1959 (or maybe it was the cd)? Atlantic is kind of the same to me. I can't tell the difference between a mid-sixties fan copy versus a mid-seventies fan copy. I paid $10 for a clean mono copy of McLean's Right Now!, a far harder album to find, pre. Liberty; who would drop almost 4K on a Columbia copy of Kind of Blue? Don't get that thinking.
  7. Black Sabbath-Master of Reality-Vortex/WB, 1970.
  8. Thanks for the review, probably pass. Earlier: New Order, Power, Corruption, and Lies, Quest Now: RUSH, 2112, Mercury.
  9. All kidding aside about the Member's Only jacket, I'm moved. It's beautiful, Neneh is amazing . I'm buying it as soon as its available.
  10. Wow. Absolutely love that he is still recording and with Don Cherry's daughter? Cool as fluff. The All Star Game is still one of my favorite Allen efforts outside of the Sun Ra orbit. Wait, is that a Member's Only Jacket he's wearing? My wife hijacked mine.
  11. Me too. Last fall, I bought Three for Shepp, the Gesprachsfetzen/ In Sommerhausen, and Mary Ann/Bremen 1969 sets. As if the ESP/Polydor records weren't good enough...wow, it gets better! Sounds great, so I can't tell you if it's needle drop or not; but it sounds pretty fine to these ears.
  12. Wasn't he Paul Chamber's cousin? Own Soulnik, and have no excuse not owning this one.
  13. More Haydn: Symphonies, Nos. 82, 83, & 84, under the direction of Sigiswald Kuijken, and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. Virgin Classics, 1989.
  14. Thank you Sir Richard Branson for Virgin Classics (and Virgin Venture). Truly, in my honest opinion, the best classical label there ever was. So, listening to Haydn myself: Cello Concertos under the direction of Iona Brown, featuring Truls Mork, Virgin Classics, 1991. Earlier, Haydn, Sonatas Nos. 33, 38, 58 & 60. Emanuel Ax. CBS Records Masterworks, 1988. One of my favorite classical pianists, alongside Glenn Gould and Jean-Bernard Pommier.
  15. Can't escape it. Every time I see this album sleeve, reminds me of this sleeve:
  16. Love the Breeders and a huge Pixies fan. Does this record have either vibe?
  17. Rahsaan Roland Kirk-Blacknuss-Atlantic/Rhino
  18. Total RUSH fan. Saw them as a teenager in the 80's and was thrilled when they played the first half of 2112, then saw them again as an adult, playing their best from their entire catalogue chronologically. RIP Neil Peart! My favorite rock drummer of all time, who learned to re-drum (like this dude needed to) under the influence of Buddy Rich. Amazing person (watched an interview, dude's very articulate and intellectually deep) amazing band! Now playing The Police-Synchronicity-A&M. Awesome how Herb Alpert saw the importance of this band...another band I was so fortunate to see live too. They opened with "Message in a Bottle"!
  19. So far this morning/afternoon: Chet Baker-It Could Happen to You-Riverside/K2 20 Bit John Coltrane-Coltrane Plays The Blues-Atlantic/Rhino Marion Brown-Three For Shepp-Impulse! Now: McCoy Tyner-Time For Tyner-BN RVG
  20. Been digging deep in CP lately. Right now: playing, Three for Shepp-Marion Brown-Impulse!
  21. Wow. Not aware of this! Now playing: McCoy-Time for Tyner-BN RVG Really enjoying these early Lee Morgan records, largely because of the RVG program back in the day.
  22. Every Dexter BN is awesome in my opinion, and that includes The Squirrel and Clubhouse. Great stuff. Now playing: McCoy Tyner/Joe Henderson-Forces of Nature-BN
  23. Awful. I've met John Clayton at the airport once (he was wheeling his double bass) what a nice gentleman. So, so sad to hear what's going on there, I'm going to donate money to this tragic cause.
