  1. Very sad news. RIP. When I bought my first O'Brien recording on Reservoir, I was pleasantly shocked to see it was the same guy I recalled from "Three Trumpets", "J R Monterose" and "Guitar Groove", after a long recording hiatus. He became one of my favorite pianists.
  2. I once saw Eighth Blackbird live, and they're a terrific ensemble. Their repertoire can be rather, let's say, variable, but it is adventurous.
  3. I can't make this, but FYI if you're near the Mid-Hudson Valley, NY: Roswell Rudd's 81st birthday celebration, Marlboro, NY
  4. Damn. RIP. Mose was a favorite because of his lyrics before I became a jazz enthusiast. I once saw him live at the now-defunct Bradley's in NYC (iirc).
  5. Best wishes!
  6. Regrettably late, but best wishes anyway!
  7. Looks that way. For instance, I found track listings of the Henderson on the Italian Universal site.
  8. Doesn't seem like that recent a development. I live in somewhat of a "snow belt" in upstate NY, and the gray Honda CR-V, in particular, has been ubiquitous, omnipresent,..., (whatever) for quite a few years.
  9. Good! Looks like you might have gotten the last copy. Here are a couple of good reviews of the old Cage/Feldman twofer: lafolia.com year's best another from same site, + review of Cage prepared piano (scroll down)
  10. I bought the twofer of Cage's One^5 and Feldman's Triadic Memories on the Offseason Productions label when it was first released. It's outstanding and I highly recommend it! At the very top of all the Feldman and Cage recordings I own.
  11. Couple of things at a film festival (Woodstock, NY): This South African film is outstanding. This was also quite good.
  12. Thanks! Very thoughtful (considering that I haven't been posting often) and much appreciated.
  13. Finally got a copy of this (Isoardi's Dark Tree). Dusty Groove got more copies in last week and I managed to procure one.
  14. I had doubts about this (it's a Disney film), but figured I had to see it because I play chess and lived in E. Africa for 2 years. It's pretty good!
  15. Good find! That does look interesting.
  16. Frankie Yankovic "The Polka King" Weird Al Yankovic Alan (Uncle Al, the Kiddies' Pal) Sues
  17. Sorry for going OT, but... I've always been curious about Lewis's Bach discs. Are they worth checking out? Some years ago they were too pricey, but now I see a few candidates on Amazon.
  18. I saw the trailer for Eat That Question last Sunday, (prior to a showing of the Vince Giordano documentary There's a Future in the Past), and was interested. Could actually have stayed and seen the two back-to-back, but decided to wait for the Zappa film to come out on video. I agree that FZ came off as very bright. The Giordano film is quite good, btw.
  19. I went, and really enjoyed it. Mr. Giordano and the two co-directors were there. Made on a shoestring (using Indiegogo funding and the like), and still searching for a distributor, but definitely worth seeing IMO. Much better investment of viewing time and $ (also IMO) than the fictional Miles and Chet biopics I saw earlier this year.
  20. This is showing nearby on Sunday: Vince Giordano: There’s a Future in the Past (IMDB link) Am considering going, but on the fence.
  21. It so happens that I bought the CD only version from Eremite just a few months ago (figuring the box would be too rare/pricey), so I'm out on this. It deserves attention, though.
