I'm going to wait it out. At the time of the Woodstock excursion/forwarding, the tracker suggested there may have been a wrong zip code or misaddressing. It's a small CD purchase from a reliable member of this forum, so I seriously doubt that possibility. On the plus side, Albany's the PO I'd expect it to pass through, and there's little $ value at risk. I'm not going to phone. I'd expect that to waste an hour or more with no tangible result. I'm on good terms with local PO employees, so could print out the tracking history and show it to them. That might be informative, though equally unlikely to make the package appear. Some of the weird itinerary is due to recent USPS changes. I'm in a rural area, and during the past few years USPS has routed all mail (except within the same zip code in certain friendly POs) through semi-local hubs (which can be 75 or more miles away). I think Newburgh is the hub for my outgoing mail, and Albany seems to be a hub for many incoming packages. I assume Springfield is one link out in the hub network. In practice, this hub system often has counterintuitive results, e.g. a letter addressed to the adjoining zip code (less than 10 miles away) has to travel through Newburgh (total distance around 150 miles).

The weird odyssey continues. One mistaken trip to Woodstock, which was only about 40 miles off, then another bizarre sojourn to Springfield, MA. Finally through Albany, which is somewhat encouraging, but I'll be surprised if I ever receive the package. Can't say as I know, but Wikipedia generally has good info on film music credits. Wiki claims the overture from Rossini's "Barber of Seville". Confirmation here.

I'll probably go this weekend. Woodstock, NY is the nearest town with an "art house" cinema, and they screen anything/everything having to do with music (I caught "Born to be Blue" last weekend).

More on the absurd chronicle of folly. Check out this itinerary: DATE & TIME STATUS OF ITEM LOCATION April 25, 2016 , 8:15 am Arrived at USPS Facility SPRINGFIELD, MA 01152 The package is delayed and will not be delivered by the expected delivery date. An updated delivery date will be provided when available. Your item arrived at our USPS facility in SPRINGFIELD, MA 01152 on April 25, 2016 at 8:15 am. I doubt I'll ever see the damned thing.

I saw it today, and basically concur with gregmo. Disclaimer: I'm not a huge Chet fan and haven't heard overly much of his music, so can't speak to specific issues of musical representation. The addiction issue is treated pretty well and realistically IMO.

Beyond the matter of the "Leningrad", one can find lots of negative opinions re. Shostakovich. One of the most knowledgeable and thoughtful music fans I know dismisses DSCH as "not an opera composer". If you search for "Preludes and Fugues" recommendations on rec.music.classical.recordings, you'll find that a significant number of the "cognoscenti" regard those pieces more or less as musical doggerel. I can understand where these critics are coming from (especially with regard to opera), but I still enjoy the P&F, Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk and The Nose, though there are many works of contrapuntal keyboard music and opera I listen to much more frequently.

Oops, looks like I got confused...Nuba and Something in Return are the CDs common to the Lyons and Cyrille boxes, but Wee Sneezawee and Give it Up, both in the Lyons box, are the discs with Borca. I'm still leaning to the Cyrille.
-
I may go this upcoming weekend. To my surprise, it's showing at the (semi-) local cinema.
-
I can't comment on the music, but don't just 2 of the 5 discs in the BS/SN box feature Borca? I've been considering both the Cyrille and Lyons boxes (leaning toward Cyrille) and noticed that those two CDs (Nuba and Something in Return) are included in both sets.

I've experienced very few lost items over the years, but delivery time for small packages (CDs, books) has really deteriorated over the past year or so. Funny WTF moment today: I bought a couple of CDs on this forum, should have arrived by yesterday, so I tracked. Package shipped on April 8, first went from Columbus OH to Jersey City NJ. At that point it'd ordinarily go to Albany NY and thence to my local post office in upstate NY. Instead, it made an odd excursion to Springfield MA and then back to Jersey City. I should get the stuff by midweek, but have to wonder what gremlin diverted it to Springfield.

Yes, regular season has been 82 games as long as I can recall (I googled and found since 1967-68). [Added] Bulls record was 72-10, GS is 72-9 with 1 game remaining (tomorrow night). I guess that one will get good TV ratings.

Rosanna Arquette Gilda Radner Gildo Mahones [Added: Damn, fraction of a minute late and 2/3 unoriginal!]

PM sent on Abrams and Wright.

I just saw this new biography in a bookstore today. Looks interesting, but a little slender considering the university press price. I held off purchase, but am considering, subject to what reviews I can find. [Disclaimer: I have no connection whatsoever with the author, publisher, or unnamed bookshop.]

+ 1. I'm likely in, even though my collection is already pretty full on Evans.

Really The Blues by Mezz Mezzrow
T.D. replied to mjzee's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
I saw the new reissued edition in a bookstore last week. It's on my list of books to consider, but I didn't find it compelling enough to purchase at the time. -
Well, if you mean Fresh Sound, "they" did reissue it on one CD, with a quoted playing time of 79:55...

In that same Zender series I like though some of the accompanying pieces may not be to everyone's taste (12-tone/serial)

I'm not well-versed in free jazz, but occasionally go on mini-binges. Recently missed out on some Moondoc CDs on this board, listened to a bunch of Eremite online clips, and placed an order. And then was fortunate that the most famous Moondoc title appeared here. Late to the game as usual, but will likely get more Eremite titles, as I enjoyed many of the available clips. Purchases: Jemeel Moondoc, Revolt of the Negro Lawn Jockeys Wm. Parker and Little Huey Orch., Raincoat in the River Moondoc/Parker/Drake, New World Pygmies II J. Moondoc and Jus Grew Orch., Spirit House

What live music are you going to see tonight?
T.D. replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Considering this one ("Jazzstock" in Woodstock NY) in about 10 days: 7:30 pm: JACK DEJOHNETTE Solo Piano! in celebration of his new solo piano recording Jack DeJohnette: http://www.jackdejohnette.com/ 8:00 pm: TERRI LYNE CARRINGTON's MONEY JUNGLE! with Aaron Parks (piano), Mark Shim (saxophone), Zach Brown (bass) Terri Lyne Carrington: http://www.terrilynecarrington.com/ Don't know much about Carrington, but should be OK (I hope...). Jack on solo piano ought to be interesting. -

There are some good boxes on Erato. I have one of the forerunners of this one (inexpensive on Amazon):
