I'm not familiar with the anecdote, but it very likely refers to substance (ab)use IMO.
  3. Believe it or not, I've heard a boatload of her music. Live in a rural area, like to listen to radio while driving, but there are very few stations in my immediate area (have to drive a half hour to get within range of decent programming). One of the available stations plays her songs with astonishing frequency. There's worse stuff to listen to. Some lyrics come off as whiny / self-indulgent / narcissistic, but I don't suppose that's unusual (or ever has been within the "singer/songwriter" genre). As far as social trends, I dunno...I've been way out of touch with "pop culture", whatever that is, for decades. She seems to be making more money than God, so must be doing something right. 😄
  4. CD of this, Super Fuji FJSP-207, recently appeared at Cdjapan. Motivated me to put together an order.
  5. There have been a whole lot of Mingus reissues the past several years. Hasn't been easy to keep up, and non-completists have had to make decisions. Much of this set is music I have to get, but I haven't decided whether to spring for the box or selectively buy some key albums.
  6. Big on this box, strongly recommended. I really enjoy it, though to be honest I don't expect to listen to the interview disc again.
  7. Interesting that producer Michael D. Anderson is the same guy who's involved with the Sun Ra Music Archive and put this together:
  8. I noticed an upcoming reissue, was watching for release and listened to samples, but decided against it...matter of priorities as I've spent a lot of $ on recordings recently.

    Vampi Soul

This is not particularly exotic, just straight-ahead jazz, but I think it's very good.
  10. I decided to take a (black) Sharpie* and write the disc number on the clear plastic ring in the center of each CD. *don't have any green Magic Markers...🤣
  11. Preordered in Feb., shipped today. 🤷
  12. Never heard of the group before, but saw an article in an e-zine and had to check them out due to the funny name.
  13. This one (Yamashita Trio + Schoof) got my attention, but not readily available so it's on the wish list.
  14. Don't know, but IMO highly probable that it's a Euro-PD label. Also possibly CD-R instead of CD, if that matters.
  15. I received it today, just cued up disc 4, enjoying it so far. Can't attest to stereo vs. mono, defer to the label. One peculiarity: the non-playing sides of the CDs are solid black, no printing whatsoever, thus no indication of the disc number (1-6). I use a CD changer, and this means I have to be particularly mindful of the order in which I insert and remove discs. 🧐
  16. I also like it. I sometimes attend concerts of Indian / Pakistani music, and these sitar / tabla players are seriously good.
  17. Bought this obscure disc because it was cheap, but it proved to be a sleeper and I really like it. Mix of piano trio and quintet (w. tenor, trumpet). Straight-ahead, he's obviously influenced by Bill Evans but for whatever reason it all works for me.
  18. Confident that I will, based on the samples I heard and the (almost shockingly, when I reviewed last night) many recordings I own and enjoy on which Skidmore plays!
  19. Thanks, I went for it. Fortunately a US dealer (Squidco) had the set in stock, so I could order w. reasonable shipping cost.
  20. In the World was included in the Mosaic Strata-East box. I'll see what the booklet says. [Added] That Mosaic booklet does not speak (either yes or no) to the issue of needle drops. Nor does the website, https://www.mosaicrecords.com/clifford-jordan-strata-east-albums/ . But I always had the impression Mosaic generally doesn't do needle drops apart from old 78 reissues.
  21. 1970s Yugoslavian (maybe today it'd be Serbian?) jazz-funk. Got this on a whim (it's on bandcamp) and having fun. Listening through a second time.
