LF: Jimmy Cobb - JAZZ IN THE KEY OF BLUE
T.D. replied to Dmitry's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Years ago, I placed an order with importcds and they mistakenly sent me the wrong item. Dealing with "customer service" was a nightmare. After much hassle and long delay, the matter finally got resolved. As a result, I avoided them for quite a while. But in recent years I've purchased many cds from them (have developed a dislike of Amazon, and importcds has good prices), mostly direct or through eBay, no problems whatsoever. -
Apparently Mr. G. is also a functional illiterate [emphasis added]. the man who’s nickname is “The Sound''...WTF?

Likely too prosaic to rank on many "worst of" lists, but this one made a terrible impression on me: There are quite a few unattractive Chick Corea album covers, for whatever reason.

COVID-19 III: No Politics For Thee

+1 in spades to the last 4 posts. -
Excellent point. I was going to say "...or being interviewed", but didn't have the add'l info. [Added] I'd think photographing a therapy session would raise issues related to doctor-patient confidentiality.

I know I've seen this telegram before, but can't recall where... Looking around, Ethan Iverson tweeted it back in 2016: https://twitter.com/ethan_iverson/status/808352283381661700 Not sure where else it may have appeared. I don't use Twitter, so that can't be where I saw it.

Which Jazz box set are you grooving to right now?
T.D. replied to Cliff Englewood's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
A recent thread on the big Nucleus Live at the BBC set got my interest, but I decided to go for this smaller box. -
Thanks for posting this. I only knew of the Wergo CDs (later recording date), must have been asleep when this was released.
-
Thanks for the info. Agreed that the earlier Nucleus recordings appeal more and the Barbara Thompson set looks more attractive (at roughly similar price). [Added] I found a box set of the 1970-75 Nucleus releases (9 LP on 6 CD) at a reasonable price and went for that...the material is new to me because I've only become interested in British jazz-rock of that vintage over the past couple of years (thanks to Jazz in Britain on bandcamp and Scott's sales on this site).

Something I'd really like to hear, but can't imagine paying $150 for 12 discs worth. Would immediately purchase a subset of 4 to 6 CDs.

I just recently discovered Satoko Fujii and have been impressed. She records prolifically (big band, solo, small group) and I've only heard a few, so can't give reliable recommendations. There's a lot to explore.

Thanks, didn't know of deepdiscountcd. FWIW, independent confirmation of popmarket: I almost always pay with Paypal, and noticed quite a while ago that importcds and popmarket have the same Paypal payee e-mail address.

Me too, but no relation. https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/sdut-1c01jmraz21636-no-headline-2009feb01-htmlstory.html

Are Klipsch speakers still any good? I'm not current, but got the impression that the name had changed hands a few times and the quality gone down a few notches.

+1 Another rough year so far.

Definitely am. In a rare spending spree, I also bought Japanese reissues of Julius Hemphill's Dogon A.D. and Stanley Cowell's Blues for the Viet Cong. Extravagant but worth it, all three are outstanding.
-
I recently picked that up, based on the excellent review by Rooster_Ties: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?/topic/86349-freedom-mini-lp-series-paul-bley-dewey-redman-dollar-brand-ted-curson/&page=5 Previously owned the Black Lion, which sounded like absolute crap, Tyrone Washington practically inaudible. I almost never do sonic upgrades, but felt it necessary for this. Speaking of which, 3 more Freedom reissues from DG just arrived today ! Charles Tolliver The Ringer, Stanley Cowell Blues for the Viet Cong and Julius Hemphill Dogon A. D. Yowzah.

“Live at the Plugged Nickel” — just *not* Miles Davis

The It Club in LA? There are Monk and Gene Harris / Three Sounds recordings, but no others I'm aware of. -

These were (at least partially) recorded at the Regattabar: I think somebody recently posted the Kohlhase disc on the Listening thread. -

There's the memorable Tristano/Konitz recording from the Confucius Restaurant in Manhattan! Only one I know of from that venue. -

Noticed some Uptowns above. A number of their releases were recorded in obscure venues, for instance I don't recall seeing any others from The Flamboyan. This one's from the Lark Tavern in Albany: -
