PM sent re: Available Jelly, “Bilbao Song” (Ramboy) [sextet w/ M. Moore, E. Boeren, Wierbos, T. Delius, Glerum, Vatcher]

I caught this trio last night, which is part of the Magic Triangle Jazz Series. I had limited exposure to Bauer before this concert and I came away quite impressed with the range of sounds he can coax from the trombone as well as his virtuosity. For me, Parker and Drake are always a joy to hear. Parker played a variety of instruments as he often does, but the best moments for me were when he played bass and he and Drake locked in to a groove. Overall the trio seems to be listening to each other and reacting off each other very well. They play Roulette in NY tonight and then off to Baltimore and Philadelphia this weekend. Anyone with an appreciation for this kind of music in those areas should definitely make the effoty to get out and hear this group.

TV broadcast by Radio France from le Festival de Jazz de Paris Notes: Title 3 is a piano solo by Cecil Taylor. At the artist is performing a ”dance” at the curtain-call. Andrew Martinez remembers: "...watching the Paris tape... if you notice after the first set, we leave the stage and don't come back for encore. Reason being, the night before Cecil was put on the spot and was made to play with the Art Ensemble of Chicago as part of contract, and monies of entire tour was tied in somehow. So the maestro did perform with them. The next day the maestro plays, but one set only, as agreed. So we play, the crowd is going wild chanting and all, and no band returns. You know these crowds can level the place if you don't respond quick enough. Needless to say the promoter is flipping out. The response from the maestro: "Well, if we are to play a SECOND SET!!! Then that will require SECOND SET!!! compensation. The frantic promoter then compensates the maestro, and we return to the stage... The Paris gig was the finale of the Two Continents tour and of the Paris Jazz festival." ===========================================

You are too clever for me. Besides - even I know the difference between alto (Shaw) and tenor (Strickland)
-
Are you confusing Marcus Strickland with Jaleel Shaw? No. Strickland preceeded Shaw in Haynes' band.
-
I have enjoyed what I have heard from him this far - in particular his playing with Roy Haynes. He is not breaking any new ground and still has not found a definately distinctive voice, but he is a solid player who is still developing.

Thanks. Ordered a used copy on amazon.

A Sonny Fortune recording that not many people may be aware of is a 2005 live recording on the German Konnex label titled Live At The A-Trane, with the German organ jazz trio featuring Matthias Bätzel, Ernst Bier and Karl Schloz. The program features the group stretching out on five Fortune originals. I do not think there are any other recordings featuring Fortune in the classic organ instrumentation. Very nice performance.

The spaces are not inserted during the extraction (EAC) process. This typically happens during the burning phase when the writing program burns the disc "track at once" and inserts the two second gaps. There should be something within the roxio options to select burning "Disc At Once" as opposed to "Track At Once".

By coincidence I spent a lot of time the past couple of weeks on the Pinewood Derby because I am a leader of a pack. Today was the race and all the kids had fun. Every year my daughter actually builds a car and this year in the "friends" division her car came in third out of about twenty cars. IN the past five years she has been more obsessed with building her car than some of my scouts have been. The first two years her car beat all my scouts - which did not make them very happy.

Darius Jones "Man'ish Boy (A Raw & Beautiful Thing)"
relyles replied to sonnymax's topic in New Releases
I heard a few private live recordings with Jones that motivated me to purchase the album. I have not had a chance to listen to it yet - but I actually dig the art work (but the again I am a 43 year black guy from NYC ). -

Wayne, this, perhaps, is a strange but am I on that Odean Pope CD. If so, I wasn't aware it was out yet. It was a nice date, great tunes, challenging, especially at 8 am which is when we started recording. That was a challenge in itself..... Yes, it is the disc you appear on. It does not appear to be available in domestically in the US, but it is available from the In & Out website and other European distributors.

That Groder disc was a surprisingly good one. I reviewed it for Jazz Improv a couple of years ago. Beforehand I had never even heard of Groder, but came away quite impressed. -
