  1. So sorry to hear of your loss, Lon. Jarrett's Koln Concert is a lovely performance. gregmo
  2. I caught that too. I was *completely* unaware that Mosaic was preparing such a set. Has it been mentioned here before, and I just missed it?! What *other* rumored sets have I managed somehow to miss?! gregmo
  3. No problem here, either. It's in town, and I'm hoping to go see it sometime this week. gregmo
  4. I think so, that, and the risk of CTE. I remember a line from columnist George Will, who loves baseball and dislikes football, that the sport--I'm paraphrasing here--combines the two worst aspects of American life: excruciating violence punctuated by committee meetings. gregmo
  5. Thanks!
  6. The only thing I miss about vinyl are the larger format covers with easier-to-read liners, and a good pair of reader glasses takes care of THAT problem! For me, vinyl will always be about scratches, pops, and clicks that I have to try to ignore. *Modern* cds are, to me, so obviously superior in sound that I find this recent fixation on vinyl to be nothing more than hipster nonsense. gregmo
  7. Is this one on that second Duke Storyville box? gregmo
  8. Larry Kart's recent exploration of this music caused me to go back and listen to this one. Niehaus was "well schooled" and did write lovely ensemble passages. I also like his Konitz-inspired alto. Certainly, director Clint Eastwood shares this affection. I think Niehaus has scored most of his films since "Bird."
  9. Yet another thought is to find a music program at a college or university and gift them to their library, then take a tax deduction. You won't make much money, but it will get rid of the cds, and you'll save some money on your taxes, depending on whether or not and how you itemize. gregmo
  10. Disc IV. Enjoying me some Dizzy Reece
  11. Agree wholeheartedly with this point, though I think a fair amount of material Vogue recorded by American artists has been reissued over the years. Did Verve Gitane's excellent "Jazz in Paris" series reissue any Vogue things? It put out a lot of material on other small French labels. gregmo
  12. After news of his death, some fine music in memory of his mentor:
  13. I imagine that would hold for most of us here! gregmo
  14. Looks like if you want the "ultimate" it's this one.
  15. Cool! It would be interesting to have Lil Hardin Armstrong's perspective. Now, if only Ricky could find those Buddy Bolden cylinders.........

I especially valued the Horace Silver Trio album in the brown bag series. It seemed like it was a while before I could get those sessions on cd. greg
  17. From the recent cdjapan haul:

I too have slowed down...or tried to... Luckily, I don't have to keep anything in storage (most--not all--fits in cases along one fairly long wall), but I keep trying to tell myself: *Only* get records you're going to listen to more than once or twice or three times! Alas, then comes an announcement that cdjapan has some cool stuff from the old Time Record label, and suddenly, I have five new cds in a nice package at my front door. Or Resonance is out with a new Nat Cole box, or Mosaic is doing something cool with Hank Mobley... Sigh. gregmo
