  1. I retired several years and enjoy every single second of it. I travel a good deal and have plenty of time to listen to and read about the music, see movies, hang with friends, and sometimes do nothing at all. I do volunteer on several boards, but they don't require too much time. BIG fan of retirement! gregmo
  2. I agree that Rogue One is the best of the recent ones I've seen. Have yet to go see this one. If you really want some scathing reviews (some of which are pretty funny), have a look at what reviewers are saying about "Cats"! gregmo
  3. I took a long look, and I think you're right, Steve. It looks more like Max than Bobby.
  4. Oh yeah. There are a lot of great snappy lines like that. Condon was a witty guy. And he really loved Pee Wee.
  5. Ah, Steve, great minds.... I have that one beside my bed right now and am indeed reading through it as I read "We Called it Music"! Also listening to the very fine Davies-mastered 4-cd Condon set on JSP! gregmo
  6. I also enjoyed the Mars material a lot, along with the Deccas. The MGM stuff...not so much. gregmo
  7. I'm not sure Mosaic has ever actually sold all of its assigned sets before the time limits on its contracts with the labels ran out or before they simply decided they didn't want or couldn't afford to sell them anymore. gregmo
  8. Interesting. Thanks for the quick reply! gregmo
  9. The booklets are all shelved right next to my recliner! But they are separate from the cds, which are shelved with all my other cds in alphabetical order. The boxes, on the other hand, are in my storage shed! So the three components are in different places--only slightly different for cds and booklets. As Danny Kaye used to say, "Get it? Got it? Good!" gregmo
  10. My, my--I did listen to all three of the tunes Jim posted from the Kenton/Ritter album. Those are nine minutes I'll never get back! Was the National Anthems album ever issued by Capitol, or was that strictly a Creative World release? Don't plan to put that one on my list either! It did occur to me that having only Kenton doing some country songs (without Tex moaning away through them!) might have been at least interesting! gregmo
  11. Yeah, I've actually written a letter for my heirs as part of my will pointing to the need to put them all together!! gregmo
  12. A true pioneer. NPR also had a nice story on her: NPR tribute to D.C. Fontana gregmo
  13. Cool, thanks for the response. If I had the space.......!
  14. They'd get a lot more if they sold on-line. gregmo
  15. It holds the record with nine razzie awards, including "worst film of our first 25 years." It's so awful, it gives awful a bad name.
  16. Oh yeah, love me some Big Tea! Is the sound that much better than the Mosaic, though, Lon?
  17. Ditto. Also listening to disc 1 (mine arrived yesterday). I remembered the presence of Ellingtonians from the (now) ancient "Turning Point" LP on the old Decca Jazz Heritage series, but I haven't listened to that one in ages due to the dreadful sound. Nice to have these recordings from Mosaic with some fine Webster and Hodges. Looking forward to listening to the rest of the set. gregmo
  18. I've liked the Kenton Christmas album ever since I first bought the LP on "Creative World" and then got the cd. I think he actually manages to make "Twelve Days of Christmas" interesting, and that's no small task! I also share an affection for the Kenton/Wagner album, one of the few that has yet to make it to cd. gregmo
  19. Well, I always buy new Mosaics, so I'm in. In addition, and oddly (for me!), I don't have all of Morgan's 60s Blue Notes, so I guess I'm in something of a minority here in welcoming the set! gregmo
  20. This one grew on me. Right afterwards, I felt as you did, but as I thought about it, I really admired DiCaprio's work in it. It's one thing to play a "fading" actor--lots of people have done it--but to play that fading actor playing in a film within a film is much tougher. I thought it was some of his best work. And Pitt was fun! gregmo
  21. I'd still go for it! But I don't know how much of a market there is for the *very* early stuff. gregmo
  22. That would be, what, 8 cds? Doable, though it broaches Mosaic's mysterious 7-cd limit! gregmo
