How common are tiny imperfections in vinyl???
Quincy replied to BERIGAN's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
As a Who fan MCA was horrid. Brand new LPs sounded like 25 cent garage sale used vinyl as soon as you broke the seal. We used to joke that you could smell the model airplane glue as the legend was that post oil crisis vinyl was made up of melted down model planes & cars. I'd put MCA on a whole 'nother lower level, but I may not be rational about this. I ended up with some modern vinyl as I got a good deal on the Smile box which had some included. My copy was poppy on the first and likely last play. I believe impossible (Cary) on FB said his recently scored copy sounded great. I think on Hoffman it was mentioned there were 2 different plants, one good & one evil and I guess I drew the short straw. But as I got a great deal (too) I couldn't be bothered to return it & hope for a pristine vinyl version, especially since I'm indifferent if they include CD versions. (If it had been a flawed hi-res disc I would have returned it.) -
I've tried this and it still isn't working for me. Several months ago a friend sent a joke email with a link about Time-Life releasing the complete DVD package for the 6 Million Dollar Man TV series. As kids we were fans. When we'd run around the neighborhood we'd make the various sound effect noises when running or jumping, talk about how cool it'd be to have a bionic eye or just be bionic, and he even had the doll. Hence the email. Ever since visiting that damn Time-Life on this site, or in Google Reader, and other sites guess what ad I almost always see? I went into preferences and deleted the obvious cookies. I've used the above Google link to try to get rid of it. I think I'm stuck with the ad for life, which in the scheme of things it certainly could be worse. It's pretty damn funny actually, although now I find myself thinking I can bike better than I really can. Better...stronger...faster...

Ah, I made the mistake of posting after a visit to the bar. I should have realized you weren't one of those people who thinks all music after the '80s (or some date) stinks. Er, in fact if I did the math regarding your probable age...nevermind. I hadn't looked at rooster's clip and now that I have, I get what you were saying.
-
I don't miss the '90s but I liked a lot of the music. Flaming Lips, Pavement, The Orb, Johnny Cash American, Garcia/Grisman, Barbara Manning, Aphex Twin, The Yellow Shark, Porcupine Tree, Robyn Hitchcock, Phish, Robert Fripp, King Crimson, Dwight Yoakam, Steve Earle, Radiohead, Nirvana, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Yo La Tengo, Shane MacGowan (well, The Snake at least), Beth Orton, Wilco, Elliot Smith, Belle & Sebastian, Cat Power, Opeth, blur, Neutral Milk Hotel, Jordi Savall, Richard Thompson, California Guitar Trio, Greg Osby…Some I didn't discover until the '10s though.

I need to order this too as I liked the sample that was linked to in the ECM thread. He's playing in Eugene at the end of Feb. and I intend to go. I enjoyed Berne's playing with Formanek when they played here last summer. It seems this town is in a bit of drought for jazz shows lately, though I understand we're off the beaten path and have a reputation for being a bunch of cheapskates (except for coffee, beer & Ducks gear).

There's a great deal of potential talent siphoned away by football & basketball, and in all likelihood soccer is increasingly doing so too. I think another point in Babe's favor in being successful is it's important to remember that bodies built like Pujols are far from the norm. Lance Berkman, John Kruk and Jim Thome are few examples of guys who at times were as porky per inch as the Bambino at his worst, yet all are or were highly successful hitters.

Babe Ruth was 6'3" and weighed between 215 to around 250 or so. We don't know how he would handle today's pitching if he was teleported from 1927 or if you gave him the chance to grow up in Florida with year round training & video, but I wouldn't bet against him in either scenario for reasons David James mentions. But there's a big difference between being 6'3" and 250 and 5'11" and 275! I'm half an inch taller than Prince and I can't imagine walking around weighing about 100 lbs. As others have noted, it's hard to see this ending well for the Tigers or Prince once he starts life in his 30s.

After too many years of steroids & HGH stories I can't help but laugh at the Wall St. Journal's headline "Will Cholesterol Kill Baseball?" There's a quote from John Kruk who takes the position you'd expect from him. "I can go to the gym right now and find 10 guys in great shape, but I wouldn't want them on my baseball team," he said. "For years the sport has been hooked on guys who are 6-foot-3 with 4% body fat. But those guys seem to spend as much time on the disabled list." Cecil Fielder faded after age 32 and he was (still is I guess) 6'3" and allegedly just 230. (Maybe in his rookie year.) And he has 4 inches of height on his son. However there's ample evidence that genes don't matter a whole heck of a lot in baseball so I wouldn't put an expiration date on Prince at that age because of that. I would hope that Detroit would be able to require that Prince have a trainer to shed some of the poundage in the coming years, but I kind of doubt a Boras client would allow such a thing.

I forgot about about some chocolate covered ginger cookies until I discovered them last week. We have a few small chocolate covered peanut butter filled santas too. -
Jesus! As in why would you trade a pitcher who thru age 22 comps with Holladay, Beckett & Jack McDowell for a guy who went from being the Yankees catcher of the next 15 years to now he's "another 1b/DH type." What the hell happened to the catching part? The M's already have 2 young 1b/DH types. Oh sure, it's Jesus, but they could have had him last year for Cliff Lee. I'd rather have a Yogi than Jesus. On the "bright" side one of the Pineda comps is Scorpio Spinks.

That's about the only drawback of the Technivorm though one could always buy another thermal caraffe and reload (it brews fast btw). Coffee has never been better around the homestead since getting it last November.

Hope it's a great day for ya!

It was an analogy. Time, place, circumstance and degree all matter in matters of the law. That's the point I was making, whether it's alcohol consumption, free speech, gun use, sexual intercourse, copyright, cell phone use, etc. Some of things you can do in public, some you can do while driving, some you can do in public theater, and some you probably shouldn't. Thus what you do in your school concerning "fair use" may not apply on a web forum, since it's different. Get it? But the important thing regarding fair use is what the owner of this web site has asked of posters. And that has been made clear. -

I suppose it could be done, but it'd be hard to build a house uglier than what was torn down. Also a nice job of preserving the nearby palms. And hey, she modeled and nannied, so she knows a thing about money... -
Soooooooo, they know about Monday Michiru eh? Some of the time I'm getting a combination of Russian singles and Christian singles. But not Russian Orthodox singles.

Not necessarily. Just as the rules for drinking alcohol are different in terms of where & how you can consume & how much, fair use is different when it's for non-profit educational purposes versus posting stuff on the web. -
Actually I do, or at least from touring, as he had a serious heart attack before a show in '04.

Oh Ivan DeJesus on a cracker, Beltran hit .323 and slugged .551 for the Whiningfrisco Giants. He slugged .700 in September! He did more than squat for them.

Oooo, a beautiful price for this set! And unlike the bare bones JSP this has Teagarden too. Teagarden!

There are many foods that won't decompose in a "timely" manner for various reasons. (Hint hint), remember from childhood history books how sailors preserved food? A neat burger experiment. I hadn't realized In & Out Burger had expanded into Vegas & Texas. For many years it was stated they stated they wouldn't expand as it was too difficult to find suppliers for their organic beef and other ingredients. The religious part has been there since the beginning, it is not a "Texas thing." -
Fret some more. Most of his home games are played in a dome. Time to raise a roof over Arlington!

I'll wait. I have patience. Indeed. Better to do it right (which is their habit). The thread about the latest Jazz Icons box has nudged me towards purchasing it and for some dumb reason I haven't gotten the Carter Select yet, so a few days after Christmas I think I'll order those to help pass the time until Coleman is ready.

I would have been a candidate for it as I watched Captain Kangaroo plus this was on Golden Records but I don't recall hearing it. The whole album can be had for $1.78 as an MP3 on Amazon. After hearing the samples I think I'm "good."

Not really. Indonesia is 2nd in terms of user population and the UK's % of FB users in the total population is close to the US. Brazil added another 4.75 million just last week and it looks like Vietnamese dig it too and you don't have to dig much to see it's popular in the Middle East. It's just another permutation on the methods of communication and it's up to you on how to use it or not. I don't have cable TV nor a cell phone (no CB radio either) but I use FB, so we all have differences on how to use this stuff.
