  1. Thanks for posting that. I see so much hate directed toward "Millenials" (mostly by middle-aged people who have forgotten what it's like to be young) it's refreshing to know that there are other viewpoints out there.
  2. Breaking Bad - Season 4 Penny Dreadful Star Trek (original series with upgraded fx) via Netflix
  3. you can hear the merits or quality of a remaster via streaming in spotify..............? Yes, if it's plugged into your main stereo system you can. I never blind buy anything these days, Spotify (or youtube) is used to assess everything prior to purchase.
  4. Them's fightin' words! I love his sound circa 1975 or so (Believe It, Bundles), but once the guitar synth stuff kicked in I run quickly for the exit.
  5. The early albums also suffer from more "radio burnout" than the later ones, so to me they sound a little fresher. I don't know if I'll ever be able to listen to Zep IV again.
  6. Count me amongst those that hate his later guitar sound. You can add Allan Holdsworth to that list as well.
  7. The bonus material on II & III is fantastic, well worth listening to. I must be in the minority because my favorite Zep albums are Houses Of The Holy, Physical Graffiti and Presence.
  8. Flipping through "LOST Encyclopedia".
  9. In my world Miles Davis, King Crimson, John Coltrane, Black Sabbath, Hank Mobley, Yes, Stanley Turrentine, Pink Floyd, Pharaoh Sanders and Jimi Hendrix all exist in the same respected circle. One of them is not "more important" to me than another, I love them all equally, just because some of those artists are jazz doesn't make them "superior". I don't discriminate based on genre.
  10. Elitism; the reason why so many jazz fans come off like pretentious assholes to outsiders.
  11. I would say yes. In junior high and high school the various cliques invariably had their own "soundtracks" that went with them. The popular kids listened to pop (duh), the stoners listened to heavy metal, the jocks listened to meat & potatoes American rock, the freaks listened to indie rock & new wave, the good ole' boys liked their Hank Williams Jr., etc. If you were one of the outcasts (like myself) you could listen to whatever the hell you wanted because you're already a social pariah, what more harm could you do?
  12. No. I went back and edited my post to clarify the intended comedic tone.
  13. So, is the music really "deluded white-guy" or is that an opinion of a "deluded white-guy"? Or both?
  14. Californication I like a lot (especially the first 4 seasons). I admire the audacity of it. It's vulgar, politically incorrect, lots of gratuitous nudity and drug use...and not at all inaccurate to the subject matter. Plus David Duchovny is a "suave fuck" that is always entertaining to watch. The show has definitely run its course by this point, but those first 4 seasons are a real hoot.
  15. Exactly. Make it interactive, the days of the musicians playing while the audience sits there respectfully quiet are over (or should be over as far as I'm concerned). Get that crowd on its feet! Get them moving! I love jazz, but I will also admit that going to some stuffy jazz club to hear people play the same standards that they've been playing for 60+ years just isn't that exciting of an idea to me any longer. I want to hear original music, I want to hear music performed that hasn't closed its mind to sounds that have come out post 1966. Jazz is only dead when the musicians decide to only be influenced by shit that came out over 50 years ago.
  16. I generally have no interest in "prison dramas", regardless of how good they are, it's just not a subject matter I find entertaining.
  17. Luther - series 3
  18. The backing track version of "Thank You" by Led Zeppelin from the deluxe edition of Led Zeppelin II. All these work-in-progress versions are fascinating to listen to, like taking a time machine back to the studio. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FeOOGrtm-Q0
  19. I wonder what kind of condition the master tapes are in? The original CD reissue sounded like ass and there were obvious tape defects.
  20. Currently 73 degrees and sunny, high temp is supposed to be 77.
  21. It's expensive, but how expensive really? I recently bought a pack of 10 Gilette Sensor Excel cartridges on Amazon for about $17. I can use each cartridge for at least a month before having to change. So that $17 will last me for almost a year. Doesn't really seem that expensive in the grand scheme of things.
  22. Penny Dreadful - love it. Big Bang Theory - season 2
  23. When I get to the point where I realize I'm officially old I'm jumping off the Hollywood sign.
  24. I admire his talent but fucking detest his attitude. As someone that loves rock music equally as well as jazz music his elitist prick viewpoint and constant put-downs of rock music just make me want to smash him in the head with a brick, repeatedly.
