  1. Well hey - I was placing the order for "Jim" and the card is for "James". Problem solved, order placed, confirmation email received. YAY-HOO! Good catch. My card uses my middle initial which was not on my billing address. Added the initial and it seems to have gone through. Aand as I'm typing this I got an e-mail confirming the order.
  2. I had the same experience but didn't hit it twice. I'll check in a few days and see if my credit card has been charged. BTW didn't notice earlier un this thread anyone mentioning that it's avaialbe as a cd. Costs less than the flac even with expensive shipping. And what does it mean when it says you can buy a studio master?
  3. I bought it as a download-- I need instant gratification-- but can't figure out where the download button they refer to is. (Thought I'd post this here as well as on the website in case Jim reads it here first. )

    Bob Dylan corner

The notes say that Million Dollar Bash is one of only two instances where Dylan play harmonica. What's the other one? The 2nd take?
  5. Anybody yet compare the sound to that of The Savoy and Dial box set?
  6. 8 years after posting this (I didn't remember doing so till Moms brought it back) I've found some answers in David Meeker's excellent Library of Congress Jazz on Screen encyclopedia. Hawkins is apparently one of the members of the James Reese band. Though Benny Carter is heard with Fats Waller he's not seen on screen (that was someone miming.).
  7. Done. Happy Channuka and Merry Xmas!
  8. I remember an English professor at McGill in 1962 saying that there can be poetry without words: just watch Jean Beliveau skate.
  9. I tried hard to get it legally released using the best possible print which I believe is the one at the UCLA tv archive. (The got it from director, Jack Smight.) I wanted to do new interviews with some of the musicians and Nat Hentoff as well as use some of Milt Hinton's photos form the session. Got pretty far with what was then CBS/Fox video but was then told that the musicians union demands made the cost prohibitive. BTW I've seen version without Monk as well as version with and without commercials.
  10. And the Charles Brown original is pretty great too.
  11. I don't think the other band members were "scared shitless" . I think Trane spurred them on especially Wynton Kelly.
  12. I love Trane on that tour. Wynton Kelly too. Stitt is ok but after listening to Trane...... And knowing a bit about Steve Voce I doubt if he likes any Coltrane.
  13. I've always had a problem with stations and DJ's that don't announce what they're playing. Some stations now show what's being played on your dial or whatever you call the window in your radio and I often grab my phone to use Shazam. Then when some announcers do talk they ramble on and on. I'm not talking about just jazz stations or programs.
  14. Interesting review of an anniversary concert here: http://thebluemoment.com/
  15. The New DESOR lists 16 recorded performances of Koko . (Has anyone ever worked out what percentage of EKE performances were recorded by someone? Later in his career it seems that nearly every time he played someone had a recorder there.)
  16. Did he tell you where to buy the video?
  17. Saw Allen Toussaint with The Preservation Hall Jazz Band last week. The PHJB sounded more like a New Orleans brass band than a Dixieland band which was fine with me and it was great to hear Toussaint backed by a Sousaphone .
  18. I guess he's dancing before the Lord.... http://www.nytimes.com/2014/11/27/arts/dance/bunny-briggs-tap-dancing-virtuoso-dies-at-92-.html?ref=obituaries&_r=0
  19. A long multi post discussion on the Duke Lym list serve led me to this website: http://billdearango.com/site/index.htm The only examples of DeArango's playing I owned were on a few of Dizzy's tracks for RCA. He was still recording in 1995 and there's one cd or download available from Amazon which has DeArango on guitar with Joe Levano on sax, two Schullers (sons of Gunther?) on bass and drums and is very modern. His life story as told on the website is really interesting as were some of the stories told by Duke Lym members. All of his music I've been able to hear is pretty great. Am I the only one who didn't know about this guy?
  20. Well I'm older than you so I do remember when my family got this record. What I don't remember is whether the song was split in two on the Lp. BTW it's fitting that it was used in The Glen Miller Story: I have a Jack Teagarden record of a live concert on which he introduces Basin Street by saying that he and Glen Miller wrote the introduction to it at the request of Ben Pollack. Pops plays, but doesn't sing, the intro: it's the part that goes "Won't you come along with me...".
