  1. Just noticed that Jazz Date with.... has 2 bonus tracks ,Misty and Señor Blues
  2. That's a shame because I've enjoyed the sound on all the recent Atlantic re-issues I've bought. However none of mine have been vocals, so perhaps that's why. I have found though that the latest batch of Japanese Enja reissues are a tad harsh but, again, they're perfectly listenable My complaint won't stop me listening to these but compared to other CD issues of Chris Craft and Gershwin these are harsh. I only bought 2 of the recent Enjas because I found like you that these were on the harsh side.
  3. Keen to get an instant fix of Chris Connor on Atlantic I visited my local Fopp.. Chris in person A jazz date with Chris Connor Witchcraft Three great dates but the sound is very definitely on the harsh side. It's all just listenable but her vocals required more delicate mastering. Excessive sibilance such that S sounds snake like with hissing. Pity.
  4. His career was simply incredible, an amazing talent RIP.
  5. Anyone heard any of the Connors in this series? A few on this series have struck me as quite harsh , others are excellent though
  6. Not a bad idea, but I think there's some stuff in amongst the real goodies which is only so-so - 'He loves me, he loves me not' has pretty boring arrangements by Ralph Burns, as I recall. I didn't get on with her first for Atlantic, either, but didn't play it enough to know why. The Gershwin twofer is a curate's egg, again going from memories of listening in the sixties. I never heard 'I miss you so', but I never felt that would be a goodie, so didn't get it. The rest is various shades of wonderful! I flogged all my Chris Connor albums at the end of the sixties, but have been forced to buy most of them again on CD. They don't get stale. MG The Gershwin album needed greater variety of pace. the arrangements are all pretty safe. Nothing daring but Chris sounds great and there are some great sidemen.
  7. Chris Connor-------- A jazz date with Chris Conmor---------(London) sadly only in VG condition One of Connor's best with a great band. I need Mosaic to come good with a box set of her Atlantic output.
  8. I'm sure I'd love most of these but I struggle to buy music by the kilo.
  9. Ornette Coleman -------New York is now-------(BN Lliberty)
  10. Perry Robinson------The Traveller-------(Chiaroscuro ) Great album. In no small part to the excellent drumming of Phil Wilson
  11. Enjoy your day! Enjoy your day!
  12. next up........also a NY mono. I've not listened to these two in a while and certainly not since replacing my damaged cartridge earlier this year. These two sound so much better now. My xx2 really digs the music out as well as tracking in the inner grooves well.
  13. Anthony Williams---------Spring--------(BN) NY mono
  14. What ever you think about Irene Aebi's vocals you can't but admire her musicianship and guts. She gets so much stick . I was eventually won around but can only handle her contributions in small doses. I hope she is getting any help she needs, what ever the malady.
  15. I love Love Call too. It was one of the first I heard of his so that might explain my partiality.
  16. Dexter Gordon ----Biting the apple----(Steeplechase) Fine date. I don't find LTD's sound particularly well captured but that aside it's a strong session.
  17. Hank's early 60s albums are IMO his best . Roll Call, Soul Station, Workout . Best place for Hank naysayers to genuflect after listening .
  18. The Mosaic that eluded me ! I avoided : figured I just didn't need that much Mildred. She's a fine singer but this set was too much of a good thing . Also I might be allergic to xylophone.
  19. Kaoru Abe-- Japanese improviser. Not much available but what little I've heard has impressed .
  20. I had a couple of the Hampton LPs on French RCA. In retrospect that was enough and I didn't realty need the set. Not played it in years.
  21. Lennie Hambro Quintet--------The nature of things---------(Fontana UK) Session mainly interesting for the excellent piano of Eddie Costa and guitarists Sal Salvador and Barry Galbraith. Well worth hearing. Hambro isn't the most fluent of players - sounds quite "jerky" on alto.
  22. " It is a great relief not to be limited by the digital compression of old and to discover the air, an essential component, in the music again.” What's meant by this statement ? The implication appears to be that the resolution/ quality of these files is better than " the digital compression of old" ie CDs. Have I understood their claim correctly?
  23. Giorgio Gaslini----LIVE AT PUBLIC THEATRE IN NEW YORK,-------- ( della Quercia ) Fine 2 LP set. Trovesi is in good form.
  24. Huge talent . What an extraordinary CV he had.RIP
  25. After some searching found my NY mono ( non DG either side , ear positive ) sounds just fine . The faintest of light crackle on Love and Hate but I can only hear this with headphones.
