  1. The Oto LPs punch way above their modest cost. I'll be getting this one.
  2. Harry Miller/ Radu Malfatti ----------Bracknell Breakdown-------------(Ogun) The two leaders get equal billing but Miller predominates. Interesting session collected IIRC on a multi CD set on Ogun.
  3. I've only the version on the Mosaic set , which sounds just fine but I I bet this Vogue is pretty impressive.
  4. Grateful Dead-----------Veneta, Oregon, 1972---------(Rhino) I'm no expert on this group but having enjoyed streaming this I picked was pleased to pick up a sealed vinyl edition. Nice package. Vinyl sounds excellent.
  5. something different: Last Exit--------(Enemy)
  6. Jazzmessengers seem to have the Jackson.
  7. Eric Dolphy-----Live in Germany ------(Stash) Japanese pressing. Dolphy off mike for too much of this bootleg quality session. Wonder where Trane was that night as it's his band. Tyner sounds good and unlike Dolphy is miked well enough. Not a priority I'd suggest unless you are a Dolphy completist.
  8. I'd think that the fact that it was originally released by RCA Victor might aid sales. Most buyers putting down the cash for 3CD jazz set would know well that generally RCAVictor recorded material to a high standard. Add your pixie dust mastering magic and track record will lead expectations to be high even amongst those unfamiliar with Joe Daley's name.
  9. I'm was on the fence about this one. I really like Mr T's singing though....
  10. I love earlier Armstrong but haven't really engaged much with this period of his music . Your enthusiasm for this set is infectious (in a good way). Ordered .,!
  11. Classic Capitol Jazz Sessions------disc 2 I'd forgotten how good this set was as I've not reached for it in a while, Eddie Miller sounding very good indeed. Great sound , Capitol 78s seem to be way better than any other jazz labels of that time in my experience.
  12. Belated greetings . Hope it was a good day.
  13. If you meant French CBS doubles then they sound massively inferior to quality achieved on the Mosaic 30s big band set. I've some of the material on original US and UK 78s and the Mosaic sounds very true to these. In some cases surpassing the 78s because of sources used for transfers in the Mosaic.

a little late to the party I received this set today. I meant to get it years ago but somehow it fell off my radar. Totally captivating.
  15. I bet that's going to be great. I've another title by Davis on Black and Blue called Jaws strikes again and it sounds stunning. Fabulous mainstream jazz with real soul.
  16. best way is to upload a photo to flickr etc and copy link to a post you make. Images uploaded directly to this board are size limit which might be the reason you're having problems if they're oversize.
  17. When did Tony get too loud? He never strikes me as such when he was with Miles but the time we get to the 80s , finesse is out the window and he floods any set with playing too loud ( IMO).
  18. Exploring music that is newly recorded is very rewarding as you ( and everyone else) are hearing it for the first time. As the listener you can be part of history rather than following it. There has been lots of great music released this past decade but plenty that's mediocre and recycled ( across many sub-genres of the music). Time will judge whether jazz of the 00s stands up to long term scrutiny.
  19. Looking forward to the Ogun. I just listening to the earlier Ogun with AH and Louis MM. Recommended, it's a very rewarding recording. I find it interesting listening out for the varying influences. I'd love to see the gigs but work won't allow it.
  20. Cecil Taylor------------It is in the Brewing Luminous----------(hatArt) Side B, perfect Sunday night listening.
  21. As I understand it the margin on the RSD releases is minimal. Not much profit for the record store as I understand it.
  22. All 5 tracks are on "Sunset" 2CD compilation issued in 1999 on the Camden Deluxe imprint.
  23. Freebies today from the now defunct 78 shop as they clear through their stock before shipping it south. Two nice Django Swing sides led by others. Michel Warlop----------Organ grinders swing/ Sweet Sue----------(Swing) France. Complete with one 'Zepelli' on piano. No prizes for guessing. Rec. December 1937 Bill Coleman-------------Swing guitars/ Big boy blues----------------(Swing) France. Small edge flake intrudes in first few seconds but otherwise excellent condition.
  24. The Grateful Dead------------Hampton '79--------------(Rhino) Brief look into my local record shop. Few things tempted me. I've only a very little Dead in my collection but went for this RSD release to support the shop. It's a pretty good performance in slightly better than average (for sound board) recording quality.
