John Lewis ------------------Improvised meditations & excursions-----------(London) MJQ minus Milt and on some tracks Duvivier in for Percy Heath. Lewis swings just fine, a touch of blues, plenty of class and refinement but none of the MJQ's limpit like gloop. Delicate but unlike Brazil's defence not porcelain.

saw them once in the mid eighties , the audience was mindless and drunk. not a memorable (good) experience.

don't know what I've been doing but 10,000 seems a long way away despite being here since day one. Congrats on the milestone.

Ira Sullivan -------Multimedia ----------(Galaxy) Bought last week from the £1.50 bin. Definitely didn't belong in there. Interesting to see how busy Ira was in late 1977. One track recorded only 2 months after Circumstantial. It's a thoughtful album.

I'm sure he'll eventually get over his mistake in leaving Arsenal ...

I've had both of theses discs a few weeks and would concur with Allen. The McGhee well worth it but the Jackson is stellar. Great bebop bigband, fabulous arrangements by TK and sound is more than good enough. It's a stellar issue in everyway.

I agree I was very unimpressed by Krul. His poor behaviour was lamentable and for me demeaned his achievements saving the penalties. Costa Rica showed real class throughout the tournament and were a real credit to their wonderful country. Pura vida, indeed.

a few more sides I came across yesterday. Marion Brown ----Soul Eyes-----(Baystate) Japan Anthony Braxton----Live at Moers Festival----(Ring) Germany PJJ is on the Brown and he's not too heavy handed, a fine hardbop date. The Braxton is excellent , not sure if this has had a CD release.

Anita O'day------disc 8------ Love Anita , so glad I bought this just as it went OOP. For years I was pretty dismissive of vocal jazz in general but that's all changed now. I'm hoping Mosaic manage a Chris Connor Atlantic set. they've made some positive noises about this in the past .

Recently picked up Burton Greene Quartet feat. Paul Stocker-------Valencia Chocolate-------(Cat) Pretty good record. I can't find much about it but it's a decent freeish/hardbop date. Stocker plays very well .Anyone else come across it.

Agreed, the Cafe Oto LPs are all excellently recorded and very good pressings in my experience.

30Mb/s I don't think that's the limiting factor.

I'd be interested in hearing the full version of Spotify streaming at 320kbps. If it's a true 320 by the time it gets to you (I suppose your internet speed would play the largest role), there will be no discernable difference between it and CD. I listen to Spotify (£9.99 PCM) over my hifi. A Sonos media renderer outputs to a Moon DAC, then to my Class A amp and finally over speakers. Spotify can sound very good on the best recordings which have been mastered well. Quick A/B comparison does show that CD sound has greater depth and more "air" around instruments. There's better separation between instruments. How clearly this difference is heard does depend on the original recording. I've been using Spotify about 5 months. I'm not buying less music on physical formats.
