  1. Happy Birthday , Flurin , hope you have a great day.
  2. Sticking to decades, I'd go for 1920s-----so much wonderful hot jazz by the music's pioneers. 1960s-------as noted in the other thread , the 60s produced an abundance of incredible music.
  3. Great late period Ellington, a favourite.
  4. I'd be interested in Tippin the Scales as version I've got could be bettered I'd imagine.

    Anthony Braxton

One of my favourite Braxton albums, so good. I was lucky enough to be there that night...one of the single most inspirational musical experiences I've ever had! Blew my 23-year old brain... Me too but my mind was considerably older..... I've returned to this concert repeatedly ,(recorded off the radio), hadn't released that I'd been released officially until now.
  6. Just like the polls here, ask 100 people get a hundred answers..... mine could be.... John McLaughlin------ Extrapolation-----(Polydor) Coltrane-----Plays Chim Chim....------ (Impulse) Miles----------Bitches Brew------(CBS) Lucky Thompson------Lucky Strikes----(Prestige) Being a child of the 60s I've approached the music of the decade in hindsight. I've known the above LPs the longest and they all had a big impact on my listening in the late 80s. Had I heard Sound then rather than last year then I've little doubt it would have wormed its way into my affections. The point being that what we list here probably has as much to do when we heard it in our development of jazz appreciation as it does it's absolute value.
  7. Mines now on its way, glad to say. Along with a Zeitlin, Handy, George Wein, Herman Columbia and a few of the vinyls.. Big order!!!
  8. Same edition in my collection. It's an absolute favourite.
  9. The music is absorbing the sound isn't. Very weird compression or something makes it a hard listening experience. Devotees only.
  10. Linn is in Glasgow which is still part of the UK.......
  11. I've got this (double LP plus 7", right?), but haven't had a chance to play it yet. Have you heard the whole of it? Like? I'm seeing Made to Break at end of April, KV will be right in my neighborhood. I do like it . I know KV gets knocked here but this is a very attractive set . Not listened to the. 7inch yet but I played sides C D , A & B all the way through in that order this afternoon
  12. 12inch jazz 78 seem to me to be quite uncommon. I've just a handful from Asch , Blue Note, HMV (Victor), Keynote and Disc. Presumably cost considerations kept 12 inchers from being common in the 78 era . Regarding playing time 5 minutes seems about right in my limited experience.
  13. Ken & Paal-----------Lightning over the water---------(Laurence Family) The duo fairly groove along. Very well recorded.
  14. Shouldn't Jimmy Blanton get the nod ahead of Mingus .......... or going back further Pops Foster
  15. Willem Breuker Kollektief -----------Live in Berlin-------(Bvaast)
  16. I was happy with my Rega P3 for a decade or so. It's been usurped but remains a classy act. I'd definitely go for the Rega (from the choices you're looking at).
  17. Lou Levy is great. Marsh is always interesting . Apogee is average. The sound is badly compressed but very much better on the three unreleased takes. It's not Warner's best but it's well worth a listen or two.
  18. Art Blakey --------------Night in Tunisia ---------(Music Matters 45rpm BN) Curiously the title track is my least favourite version of the tune and also the weakest track ( perhaps because it's too bombastic) on an otherwise 5-star album.
  19. Warne Marsh---------------Ne Plus Ultra-----------(Revelation)
  20. Attila Zoller ----Jazz Soundtracks-----(Sonorama) another fine issue from Germany.
  21. Interesting ex Blue Star date released by Emarcy as a 10inch LP, good bop inflected music with Roger Guerin and Bobby Jaspar. I'm not sure if it's been reissued. The sound of the original LP is adequate only.
  22. I don't recall any of the amazons (other than UK) offering free delivery to the UK !!!
  23. This is the only one I've heard. I recall being underwhelmed but suspect it was very much a product if it's time
  24. Yes , yes , quartet ....
