Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all the board members and their families. I'm going to also be having a quiet Christmas. I'm going to cook a little food tomorrow and maybe drive down to the beach. I'm grateful for many things, not the least of which is that the board is going to be around for awhile. Safe travels everyone! Enjoy the time spent with friends and families!

Well put! A couple OP recordings I've always enjoyed are "Tristeza" and "We Get Requests". I've long thought that his slow version of Have You Met Miss Jones on the latter could be transcribed and converted to a great big band arrangement. He had an amazing sense of time, and always had a tight, swinging group. I'm glad we have so many recordings to enjoy. RIP

There appear to be some things on the sampler that aren't on the released discs- like the Joe Henderson, Jimmy Witherspoon and Pat Metheny cuts. I wonder if there is to be another set of releases with the complete performances?

Jam/Hang/Eat/Drink/Hear music/Buy music. Period. Can you imagine a bunch of board members descending upon Dusty or JRM simultaneously? It'd be like Best Buy on Black Friday.

I really don't see a problem with this, because as Al said, it is (or should be) more about nurturing the concept of giving and generosity (which can become a part of the child's persona, not just a holiday thing).

This might not be the optimum time to get a lot of responses, what with people taking off for the holidays and all. I'm up for it, but it may be a little short notice for some- I know I've already booked much of the first half of next year. Some folks might need a little more time to plan for it. I hope it works out, though! If it comes together I'll make every effort to attend.

How long (if at all) did you believe? I can remember the exact moment when my sister told me the truth, I think I must have been 8 or so. I remember it being one of the first loss-of-innocence reality moments (and disappointments) of my life. We always left cookies and milk, the whole routine. Do those of you w/young children go through this routine? I remember the thrill of standing in line to see Santa at the big department store. I wonder who these men unto whose laps I anxiously climbed REALLY were! Ever have a friend or relative who regularly did the Santa routine for your family (accoutrements and all)? While a grad student at UT Austin I was hired to be Santa (through a music booking agent, another great moment as a professional trombonist) for the kids of the workers at IBM. There were A LOT of kids, many of whom were terrified, and it was a long, long day (and HOT under the makeup, beard and outfit). I was a ho ho HO.

A couple earlier instances that come to mind are "The More I See You" from Roll Call and "Blues For Duane" from Hub of Hubbard. The Blues For Miles session was a pretty late one, after his serious chop problems were in full bloom. The harmon mute is a good way to deal with a weak open-horn sound, which sadly I believe was the reason he did the whole session muted.
