    Ronnie Ross

If I remember right, the album was originally released in the States and immediately after by Phillips Holland.
  2. Eric Dolphy 'Berlin Concerts' (Enja twofer) with Benny Bailey
  3. The first two bans (1942, 1948) I am aware of. However the 1958 ban is new to me. Did it have any effects like recording sessions being put to a stop? Thanks garthsj - and JSngry - for your illuminating contributions. And to GoM for digging up the DownBeat story!
  4. Is that from the Detroit October 1949 gig with the Phil Hill Quintet that is listed in the Bregman-Bukowski-Sachs Charlie Parker discography? The content you listed makes this release right at the top of my ToGet list just under the Parker-Gillespie album Uptown that we have been been kept salivating on for months...
  5. Bertrand, not planning to revisit Bushland for the time being! I'm currently testing several bistros for the next Parisian get-together
  6. From what I understand, the video is being circulated around internet sites. VW did not dare release it on commercial TV! Yet! The implications (VW, the People's car from the Third Reich, terror, etc.) are mindblowing
  7. I was very pleasantly surprised by the Sonny Stitt with Art Blakey 'In Walked Sonny' album. Had heard a couple of tunes from it years ago when this was practically everyday music fare and forgot to pay real attention. Now that this era is gone, I found the reissue excellent (with Bill Hardman, Dave Schnitter, Walter Davis Jr). Sessions like that are to be treasured! Give it a listen and enjoy!
  8. A retired journalist for the past few weeks. Enjoyed the journalist life for many, many years. Worked hard at it. Ready to enjoy life beyond the media world. That new life looks real nice! Plenty of time now to fulfill all the things I have always been interested in!
  9. January 29, 1949 Charlie Parker All Stars at the Royal Roost January 29 (and 31), 1953 Gerry Mulligan Ten-tette album for Capitol
  10. MILES DAVIS! His interpretation of 'You're My Everything' from the Relaxin' with the Miles Davis quintet album on Prestige is the one that sets the standard. With John Coltrane to boot! That's the version where Miles stops Red Garland's introduction and asks him to play blockchords! But I also love what Zoot Sims and Jimmy Rowles do with the tune in the 'If I'm Lucky' album on Pablo.

  12. Rahsaan Roland Kirk & The Vibration Society 'Rahsaan, Rahsaan' (Atlantic)
  13. Bobby Hutcherson plays marinba in the middle section of the title track 'Dialogue'.

    Moondog

aric, this website from Germany is pretty thorough on Moondog: http://www.moondogscorner.de/ Saw him at a benefit in New York's East Village back in 1967. Wilson Pickett and Archie Shepp were also on the bill. Moondog was not jazz. He worked on rhythms and sounds combinations with instruments he created. Quite a fascinating character!
  15. Sidney Bechet recorded a magnificient version of 'Laura' in 1947 for Columbia. Stilla favorite!
  16. The Original Chico Hamilton Quintet (World Pacific) with Buddy Collette, Fred Katz, Jim Hall and Carson Smith.
  17. That's the one, couw. Great catch! Did not know the blownup image's original appearance at Organissimo when I posted And that it was the French LP version!
  18. There is an eerily beautiful version of this on the Stan Getz 'Dynasty' album. The tune is a feature for Rene Thomas on guitar. Getz does not play on this one! And I'm with Late. I like the John Coltrane version of 'Invitation' on the Prestige 'The Standard Coltrane' album.
  19. The album is Teddy Buckner on Gene Norman Presents. Nice album with Joe Darensbourg on clarinet. Rec<orded in 1953. Don't have a copy but I heard the music when I was younger than Jazz Kat is now. This was distributed in France by Vogue records and was a pretty big hit over here.
  20. Leeway, I have 'Blues In The Air' (two takes) on the French RCA twofer 'The Complete Sidney Bechet', volume 3/4 (1941) from the Black/White Jazz Tribune series. I'm happy with the sound on this. Love the music!

    Red Norvo

It was Tal Farlow who played on a number of Red Norvo Trio dates (bassist was Charlies Mingus) A recent discovery was the audiophile session 'The Forward Look' from Reference Recordings. Nice quintet date with Jerry Dodgion, Jimmy Wyble, Red Wooten and John Markham. This one: http://www.mp3.com/albums/145743/summary.html
  22. The Columbia 6-eye copy of this 'Ellington Indigos' (Columbia CL1085) has 'The Sky Fell Down'. Its the fifth and last track on side A. The album has the nine tunes mentioned in the liner notes. 'The Sky Fell Down' is an evocative feature for Ray Nance on trumpet. No idea why it was dropped from other issues.
  23. This is a jazz forum. I included only jazz albums -_-
  24. I'm in the midst of reorganizing the CD collection. There should be something like between 3 and 4,000. And I also have double that amount of vinyl. I should have my head reorganized
  25. Young man, get back to school quickest! But before you do that, sit down and write the following sentence one hundred times: Here I am, I would like to hear Solomon Ilori When your spelling gets better, I'll tell you all about that album
