  1. Well that got me moving! Thanks.
  2. On a one year deal, I got no problem saying AJ maybe an ass, but he is our ass, and god love him.
  3. and now the Empire has stolen Jacoby Ellsbury away too. And this after they seemed to be recognizing the error of their ways with long-term deals that end with guys in their late 30s. I don't know what my Yankee friends think; Ellsbury is dead to me now. Not quite the same way as Damon (having just won a championship, it feels like a tiny bit less of a slap in the face of RSN - when Damon left, no one knew the Sox would win again in 2007)). It was always so obvious that he'd go wherever the money is highest. I suspect that he'll hit a few more homers in that tiny ridiculous right field but inevitably his legs will cease to make up for his bad reads and he'll be a liability in CF (see Damon, J. and Williams, B.) In the meantime the Red Sox played it smart by signing Victorino, who can easily take over CF if Jackie Bradley Jr isn't quite ready. But having won it all this year, I am totally fine with the Sox going with their young guys like Bradley and Xander Boegarts, and in a year, Christian Vasquez behind the dish. Oh, and if Jarrod Saltalamacchia is ever heard from again now that he's signed with the Marlins, please send him my regards. Thanks for the memories, Salty, and enjoy playing in front of 6,000 people a night. But you've only got a one hour commute from your house now!
  4. If downloads are so difficult is it possible to reupload the file to another site? I've used Sendspace with no problems before.
  5. Looks like it was up on Ebay in June and didn't even get a bid: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200930069928&item=200930069928&lgeo=1&vectorid=229466 And here's one track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6s2IrXiJdc
  6. Turkey left overs and birthday cake? Can't beat that with a stick.
  7. And I thought Jim had set up some jazz quiz to keep the spam bots away?
  8. Download please.
  9. Well obviously neither of us are shopping at Amazon very often but no, I'd say it happened sometime between late September, when I advised my brother of how he could make up for missing my birthday, and late October, when I did so again. Definitely sucks and I am not sure exactly how it is going to effect my holiday purchases. I didn't mind a second CD or DVD to get to $25 but three items when I only want one or two is really pushing it. They think we're f-ing lab rats learning to push the lever three times to get a treat instead of twice.
  10. I hadn't known that either, just noticed the new, traditional hot stove thread. Sorry to see Goodie go, we had our tiffs but I didn't need to keep him on 'ignore'. Blue Train on the other hand was the worst sort of troll the board has ever attracted. I mean he actually went after Lon in that pic thread. Utterly useless waste of pixels.
  11. I think the Tigers come out ahead on this one just for getting out from under Fielder's awful contract. I thought the Rangers were smarter than that - I am quite certain it will be an albatross soon enough - but I understand their immediate gain too.
  12. Link to the actual Kickstarter page: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/307717482/greg-nagy-recording-project?ref=live I'd love to see this get funded and hope more people help out.
  13. This is simply Jim's best recorded work to date. A thousand
  14. Just saw this thread myself; my best to you and your wife and thanks for the important reminder.
  15. Thanks for this, KH, I snoozed on the Kickstarter but now I want to listen to the clips and at least do a FLAC download. Interesting notes - it says that everything was recorded on reel-to-reel? I could have sworn hearing that when Dorn got the tapes they were all original and on cassette. Is it really too much to hope that this could be an ongoing Kickstarter project to get these tapes out? Or was it easier to do since this was a local band made up of folks with little national reputation at the time, and getting the Patton/Green recording or Mobley/Coles would be too difficult due to estate issues?
  16. Different John McLaughlin, Bill. I was referring to the long-time host of a political talk-show that was on PBS and NBC, not sure if it is still on. McLaughlin's sign off was BYE BYE! Dana Carvey spoofed him back in the day: DKDC was an acronym coined in the early days of the BFTs and stands for Don't Know Don't Care.
  17. I thought it looked more like Sonny Lester era Solid State
  18. Is it my imagination or is Blue Note going for a post-Reid Miles, Liberty-era BN cover for this? They should have updated the logo to a "product of Liberty Records" to complete the effect. Or is that affect?
  19. Thanks to Bill for inviting me to participate. Some hits, some misses but that's pretty much a given, no? 1. An out-of-control swing band. Not my cuppa, especially that drummer who seems to have wandered in from a different gig. 2. St James Infirmary, and I like this a lot though its not in my bailiwick. I never seem motivated to actually investigate this era but its always nice to hear a track like this in a BFT. 3. Meh. I am reminded why clarinets don't generally appeal. 4. Don't hate me but this was 2:40 too long. I guess that's better than one of those 15 minute free blow-outs that I don't like either. 5. Sounds like a Woody Allen movie song - one that Woody doesn't play on. Another track from an era I don't seek out - Very nice! 6. Finally something recorded post-1950! I've been listening to a bit of Lock lately and I definitely recognize him but not the track. 7. Now this is more my cuppa. Piano-led and soulful but I vote "Not Gene". My first, albeit brief, thought was that the tenor is Mr. T but there was something in the tone that wasn't right. I'm going with Red Holloway, though that's a weak guess. 8. Very nice piano trio ... very much puts me in mind of Cedar Walton. I hope its him and that it's a recording I don't have, so i can go find it. 9. DKDC NEXT. 10. Not working for me ... too frenetic and something is 'off'. Oh hell no, I just hit the trombone solo and I'm channeling John McLaughlin: BYE-BYE! 11. One of those solo piano tracks which, for me, a little goes a long way. Roland Hanna? 12. What the hell was that solo after the workman-like tenor? The track was on life-support at that point and then I had to pull the plug. 13. WSQ? The tune sounds familiar but I can't put my finger on it. Anyway I am just spitballing here. 14. Lovely piano but no guesses. 15. It really doesn't matter the era, clarinets rarely float my boat. Thanks again, Bill - looking forward to the reveal.
  20. Late once again but here's hoping your team enjoys a championship next year like mine did this.
